Unfortunately, that's not a play you can protest. And it was a horrible call....much worse than the Jeter one. What kind of calls can you protest? And does playing under protest really accomplish anything? From what I understand, you can protest the umpire's judgment of the rules (George Brett pine tar incident is the most famous). It usually does nothing but if something is ruled they start the game over from the point that it was protested (ala the George Brett game). That game is actually the only one that I know of that they agreed to restart that game.
