PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT Sure there’s that “big game” going on right now, but Cubs Pitchers and Catchers report today so I wanted to get this out today. (And if you see this after the game… cool) I have reversed course and have decided to NOT retire the HR Derby game. It’s coming back again in 2025, and I’m working with Brock on improvements and increasing sign-ups. Look for more information coming in March.

When I initially saw the report (not the original post/tweet), I was thinking alright - a trade! Then I saw it was Nightengale, and immediately switched to DAMN IT! Hopefully it gets some traction regardless of who initialized the report.

Put me firmly in the crash and burn camp, because my hatred of the Dodgers goes way beyond this recent rash of spending. I've hated them my entire MLB fandom.

Guys - this has been a blast running the HR Derby since taking over for Laura. I really wish it would have stayed popular these last few years, but even before 2020, I think this game was dying a slow death. I just didn't want to bring myself to admit it until I saw the turnout last season. I really, really, really battled myself internally on the use of ghost teams. I didn't want to have to do it. In the end, I wanted more than just 10-12 team standings. Hence the implementation of ghost teams in '23-'24. When there isn't as much participation as there used to be, it stops being fun. Therefore, I am confirming my earlier decision -- 2024 was my final year running the HR Derby. It is sad to actually say that, as in my mind I was already gearing up to create next year's docs and data, until I realized I don't have to anymore. That being said, if anyone would like to take over and try to work with Brock and the site admins/mods to generate more interest moving forward - by all means. This was not a game created by me, so therefore it is not mine. If you decide to run things, and you'd like to talk to me about files/formulas/data/prep, etc., my Inbox is always open. I have had fun these last 15+ years or so. Now maybe I can contribute in other areas of this great site of ours. Cheers! Josh

Well... we have "free baseball"... kinda, but not really. I can not post the official final standings, due to the double-header on Monday. They are still regular season make-up games due to Hurricane Helene. Once the double-header has concluded, I will update the standings, and get the final results posted shortly afterwards.

LOL - I just want to finish in the Top 5. I don't know if I can hold on for another week, but we'll see.

I love how my team was a house of fire at the beginning of the month, and has taken a collective nap for the last (almost) two weeks now. Even with the transactions. I need an onslaught over the weekend.
