I think too many people are getting carried away about how the Cubs did not make one single trade today. While agree that they could have at least acquired someone like Jeff Conine or Johnny Gomes, you also look at what the competition did, and the competition did not do much. They gave up three prospects, two top-level guys, for a middle reliever. And with plenty of baseball to play and just one game back any day now the Cubs and Brewers can be tied or the Cubs can take the lead outright. And keep in mind they still can get a player like Conine or Gomes in August through waivers for low level minor-leaguers.
