  1. Hendry must have gotten wind that Towers and the Padres were done shopping Peavy, either that or he agreed to go to the Angels, and we wouldnt have been able to match their package. Theres no way that this deal would have happened otherwise.
  2. him getting anything for rich hill will be remarkable. Im not surprised that some teams are interestd in Hill. If they could get similar production as he gave in 2007 for a low risk, it would be more than worth it. I doubt wed get much of anything in return though.
  3. So in the end we get Aaron Heilman for Pie and Cedeno. R.I.P. Jake Peavy to the Cubs.
  4. Any word on who the minor league pither is? I doubt it would be Atkins, Jackson, or Rhee. Hope not anyway.
  5. Heilman has made it clear he wants to be a starter. It would be interesting. Send them Cedeno, and something like Wuertz or Vozcaino. That then rases the question, due they still persue Peavy? wed have Z, Harden, Dempster, and Lilly as a more than solid 1-4, and then Marshall, Oson, and Heilman, and even Samardzia as candidates for the 5 spot.
  6. And this would accomplish... a right-handed hitter that could come off the bench and hit the ball out of the infield. a 3b/1b backup, which the cubs feel they need. so a couple things, i guess. A better question would be why would Wigginton wanna come to the Cubs after hitting 285/350/876 with 23 HR last year? He's not gonna play everyday, and would probably cost as much or more then DeRosa. Wigginton is a everyday player, he's not gonna want to come off the bench. Thats a role for someone like Rich Aurilia or Kevin Millar who are towards the end of their careers. There are a lot of teams that could use a starting third baseman, starting with the Twins and White Sox, and maybe the Padres and Giants.
  7. Unless, of course July rolls around and Garrett Olsons tearing up the league.
  8. I just dont see the calibur of talent in KC that the Rays have. Greinke has been inconsistant throughout his short career, as has Gornon. The rays are a murderers rowe of up and comers, many of which arent even near their ceiling yet.
  9. Someone needs to follow the trend and be this years one time league whipping boys who embarass us by beating us to the World Series.
  10. Minus a properly scruffed fan favorite like Todd Walker. Isnt that where Reed Johnson steps in?
  11. Are any of these names even an upgrade over Ronny? Maybe at one point, but Ronny may or may not have hit his ceiling, but the rest of these guys did long ago, and have been plumeting back toward the floor ever since.
  12. Other than the fact that his wallet is $900,000,000 lighter. So whats another however many million?
  13. If hes as hardcore of a CUbs fan as they say, than he should have no problem sheeling out for Peavy.
  14. Add Omar Vizquel to the Rangers. Considering hes argueably the best defensive short stop since Ozzie Smith, youd think someone would have given him a major league deal as a back up. In all seriousness, if Ronny were traded in a Peavy deal, Id take him as a back up. His offensive production couldnt be much worse.
  15. Id do it. I know people want to hang on to Vitters, but the fact is that this team is inwin now mode, and Vitters doesnt fit in with that philosophy. We dont know what he will be down the road, but we know what Peavy is now, and we want it. Id be glad to accept Josh Vitters as a superstar for someone else 5 years down the road if it got us a championship now.
  16. Is this for reals?
  17. This is like the ADD thread. I understand the concept of the conversation progressing, but lately, its been going every which way.
  18. Like you said, hes closer to the source. While might not be the first to report a done deal, he surely has a better idea of what type of talks may or may not be in progress.
  19. I dont know about everyone else, but Im always intrigued to see some of these names, be it our old prospects, or one time relevant major leaguers. Obviously, there will be more interesting names to come out once players start realizing that they wont be getting a major league deal, but heres what we have for now Astros Russ Ortiz Danny Graves Toby Hall A's Jerome Williams Blue Jays Matt Clement Michael Barrett Brian Dopirak Jason Lane Brewers Trot Nixon Dodgers Shawn Ester Giants Francis Beltran Indians Tomo Ohka Marlins Jose Ceda John Koronka Jay Gibbons Natspos Bobbie Brownlie Jorge Sosa Josh Towers Freddi Bynum C Patt Padres Mark Prior Phillies Marcus Giles Pablo Ozuna Terry Tiffee Pirates Juan Mateo Craig Monroe Rangers Derrick Turnbow Reds Jonny Gomes Rockies Glendon Rusch White Sox Josh Kroeger
  20. The story that was posted last page is one example, here's a quote from that article: Seems like an odd predicament for Dunn. If he only wants to play the OF, there aren't many teams willing to shell out big money for his poor defense/plus plate production. If he'd be willing to play 1b, I could imagine several teams willing to shell out big money for his ?? 1b defense/plus plate production. He may just have to accept a move to 1b whether he likes it or not. With that in mind, The Giants would be a perfect fit. They need offense badly, and they dont have a legit 1B. That way, they wouldnt have to give up one of their young pitchers for Prince Fielder of someone similar.
  21. I suppose it makes one wonder if they have Stanton in mind as a loogy if they end up trading both Olson and Marshall in a peavy deal, and have given up on Cotts.
