  1. Yes. Yea that's kinda weird. I don't think it makes you a bad Cubs fan, but people really need to drop this notion that their intentionall fielding mediocre teams, and the only way that we as fans can knock some sense into them is with tough love and stop going to the games.
  2. Yup, and much like Jake, Max strikes me as more of an AL player. I know Boston had their eye on him at one point but I don't know what their 25th man situation looks like. Didn't we claim Fox off of waivers from Boston? The Cubs drafted Fox. 3rd rounder as I recall. If he's finally figured out how to hit a changeup, he could be a solid DH.
  3. Friday shall be the 1st step in the journey to the 2011 Worl Series or a top 3 pick in the 2012 draft. No in betwen this year Cubs.
  4. Talented starter gets injured returns to majors as reliever and wins world series: The Jason Isringhausen story. yeah exactly the same except for the part where isringhausen was a bad starting pitcher and prior was one of the best starting pitchers in baseball. If he were to come back after all these years and become the ace he was and should always been, that would be legendary. Maybe the thing movies are made of. If he came back as a solid 7th inning reliever, it would be a nice comeback story.
  5. Yup, and much like Jake, Max strikes me as more of an AL player. I know Boston had their eye on him at one point but I don't know what their 25th man situation looks like.
  6. I wouldn't be surprised if some AL team gave him a shot. Solid young bat and can play multiple positions, though reportedly not very good at any. Sound like someone we had a few years back?
  7. Apparently, Max Ramirez has been put on waivers, so the 25 man is set. Hopefully we can hang on to him, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's claimed.
  8. I know this is random and irrelevant, but I had to do a double take when I saw the winning pitche in the Phillies game today: Nate Bump
  9. According to Bruce Miles, Castillo was optioned today. The roster stands at 26, so they must be either considering taking Max Ram over Hill or at least trying to convince Max to develope a phantom injury. I still say that a guy who can play a below average C, 1B, and OF is more valuable than a guy who can play OF and can only hit lefties.
  10. From the stories I've heard, after the embarrasing 2006, Hendry was instructed to make the team as attractive as possible to potential buyers, thus the massive spending spree of 2006-2007. I don't think that anyone specifically pointed to Soriano and said get him or else, but the problem is that the 06/07 free agent class was a bit of a weak one. As I recall, there were rumors that even after signing Soriano and resigning Ramirez after he opted out, there was talk that they would still pursue Barry Zito, but ultimately ended up with Ted Lilly and Jason Marquis. Gil Meche and yes, Carlos Silva were very much on the radar as well. In retrospect, that fatefull winter could have been a lot worse.
  11. http://mit.zenfs.com/121/2011/03/hendry_milton.jpg This picture pretty much says it all.
  12. Now if the Cubs are serious about Michael Young, and assuming they pick up half the bill, I think he would be a more than solid addition, considering he fills our biggest hole, Fukudome+DeWitt+Coleman/Carpenter/J Jackson would be reasonable. They get a major league outfielder, a young utility player with potential, and a young major league ready starter. If they prefer, replacing Fukudome with Colvin is a possibility as well.
  13. If he can repeat his 2009 numbers, that would be a pretty huge pickup, especially considering CF is one of their major holes offensively.
  14. I was thinking Silva + Samardzija + Baker + Stevens/Berg/Diamond/Coello/Maine for Michael Young, Chris Davis & $18 million. I was thinking Silva, Shark, Stevens, Berg, Diamond, DeWitt, Coello, JR Mathes, Hill, LaHair, a bag of balls, Augie Ojeda, a gator aid cooler, a half eaten cheese danish, all 4 versions of the infamous 1989 Fleer Billy Ripken card, and Rebel Ridling for Michael Young, Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, and Neftali Perez. The Rangers are serious contenders, if not favorites in the divison. They arent looking to salary dump, they want to move Michael Young and get legit talent back in return.
  15. Maybe Silva should hang out with Ryan Theriot, Milton Bradley, and Jacque Jones and talk about how unfairly the Cubs organization treats black players, obese hispanics, and marginally talented, gritty white guys.
  16. I know its a rarity, but you and seem to be the only ones who agree on this. A backup catcher is just that. Not a pinch hitter, but a lot of people dont get that. Dont get me wrong, Id like Max Ramirez on the team, but in place of Reed Johnson. Granted it was awful seeing Lou use Hill as a platoon player with Soto, but that wasnt Koyies fault anymore than the fact that Jim Hendry gave Aaron Miles a 5 million dollar deal was Aarons fault.
  17. According to a Rotoworld tweet, the Jake meister, as Hawk calls him will be out until at least May. Hey Kenny, if your looking for a starter, look no further than the other side of town.
  18. Really? Is he completely ignoring the fact that he was awful all spring training up until his last start vs. a weak lineup? And isn't this the same guy who claimed that he already had a rotation spot nailed down? Shut the hell up and collect your 8 million or whatever in unemployment.
  19. I think that some pitching desperate team will take a chance on Silva assuming that they don't have to give up anything. Maybe a fringe prospect.
  20. Gotcha. I kind of like Diamond. A better sarcastic choice would have been Justin Berg or Carlos Silva. Again, wouldn't lose any sleep if we released him, but he's still decent.
  21. It damn well better not cost us Thomas Diamond. Nothing against Thomas Diamond, but considering the young pitching we have, I don't know how much sleep I'd lose over him.
  22. I get the feeling that our 2B situation will be the baseball equivelant of Bill Wennington/Will Purdue/Luc Longly
  23. releasing silva would help here. it'd be great if there wasn't the risk that silva pitched well in a couple long relief outings and boom, cashner gets yanked out of the rotation. but i have faith that quade is going to show patience. he seems to make solid decisions and not give a [expletive] if morons like kapman don't agree with him. Even if Cashner crashes and burns, Coleman, Jackson, and Carpenter should all be ahead of Silva. Even if Silva could be an OK 5th starter, we have younger and better. It isn't too far down the road that Z and Demp leave town, and we shoulld be auditioning our guys for the future.
