So at this point, if need be, there are a few options out there. Great options? no. good options? probably not. serviceable options? could be. Ian Snell has already stated that he has been thinking about coming out of retirement. Hes only like 3 years removed from being a hyped prospect, although Wrigley isnt the best atmosphere for a guy with an anxiety disorder. Doug Davis, though awful last year, could he have a bit left in the tank? several teams reportedly watched him throw yesterday. Not sure if the Cubs were one. Kevin Milwood, also awful last year. Is there a timef rame in which he can bail on the Yankess if they dont call him up? ETA: Seeing as the Yankees just signed Carlos Silva to a minor league deal to possible replace the struggling Phil Hughes, Im going to assume that they arent too impressed with what theyve seen so far from MIlwood. Someone mentioned Pedro Martinez at one point. Could there be any lightening in that bottle? The best option would probably be Kevin Slowey, if the Twins are willing to move him and not ask too much in return. As mentioned in another thread, maybe a package similar to the one we got for Gorz would get him. Again, this is only if our in house options all bomb, and Wells misses more time than expected. I dont know how long we can go with both Coleman and some combination of Russell/Diamond/God knows who else in the rotation. Could this be a good time to start stretching out Carpenter?

Win this game. This pitcher isn't particularly good. Ours is. Aside from Braun, Fielder, and Weeks, the Brewer lineup isn't particularly fearsome. And Q might consider starting Reed Johnson. If he's not starting against these middling lefties, there's no point in him being there.

Now lets win tommorow, because I dont like our chances Sunday with Coleman vs. Gallardo.

With McGhee sucking and Hart out, the Brewers are going to really have to rely on pitching. Weeks is good, and Braun/Fielder is one of the best 3-4 in the NL, but the rest of that offense, yuck.

Would he really be worth what it would likely cost to get him(Baker, Barney, or DeWitt might be an acceptable throw in) if all we are trying to fill is the 5 starter role? Dont get me wrong, Id love Slowey in the rotation, but he wouldnt come cheap. Hed more than likely cost at least 1 of McNutt, Jackson, or Vitters and then some. Kevin Slowey is not a could be 2-3 starter. He didn't even make the twins rotation. I guess I thought he was better than he is, but there is still a premium on young, solid starting pitching. Hed probably cost st least a similar package to what we got for Gorzalanny.
