  1. Yeah, I find this sad more than anything. Sad that he's potentially not pitching anymore, but more sad that this is a man with apparently less emotional maturity than the children he has. And I'm sad that our pitching rotation will be Matt Garza, Ryan Dempster, Randy Wells, Rodrigo Lopez, and Casey Coleman.
  2. Can't wait for The Kapman, Rosenthal, and the rest of those douches to get ahold of this one.
  3. Thanks a lot, Raul Mondesi. I missed the part where he said that Castro isn't getting better. Did he completely miss, I don't know, the season?
  4. But he won't retire, but rather be traded and we'll end up with a handful of fringe prospects and paying 95% of his salary. If someone took Milton Bradley, someone will take him.
  5. [expletive]. why do I get the feeling that while this isn't the end of Z's career,it's the end of him as a Cub and we'll end up with a pile of cow dung to show for it. [expletive].
  6. Good to see Castro with another homer. God I hope he isnt wasted on this team for the next several years. Reed Johnson was pinch hit for by Campana late in the game. Was he injured? traded?
  7. One guy who never seems to get much attention is Frank Batista. Anyone know the skinny on him?
  8. In what way is that a fact that remains? Opinion remains. Cubs need to capitalize on this failure of a season. Remember 2009 when the Twins claimed Rich Harden but we decided to hang on to him? I know it's a different situation, as the balls more in Aramis' court this time, but still, time to cash in.
  9. The fact remains, while I would like to see Aramis next year, assuming they build a winner, if they decide that he won't be back, they probably have decided already, in which case they should be pushing for a trade. He should get us one of some teams top 10 prospects, and if anyones desperate enough, a top 100.
  10. Now what we need is more Todd Hollandsworths. Sure, they may not be much talent wise, but boy, do they mean well.
  11. It's a travesty that no NSBB posters at least make honorable mention.
  12. World Series here we come!
  13. Really? A decade of failed prospects that people got excited about because they put up great stats in A ball. Jones cant even compare to some of those guys. He is doing exactly what you'd expect a 23 year old 1B to do in the Midwest League. He is the definition of an organizational guy. He (and Rohan earlier in the season) has been used to prop up a bad Peoria offense so that the club has a chance to win and to keep fans coming to games. i was agreeing My guess is that he is not familiar with AAAA legend Scott McClains nickname.
  14. Yikes, what a list, although one would have to assume that if all these guys were given the chance to play close to full time, we'd have pulled out a few Jack Cust or Russ Branyan types. What? No. I'm not going to lie, when I first started somewhat following the minor leagues, Brandon Sing was one of the first guys that caught my eye. Didn't realise how hard he fell off a cliff as soon as he hit AAA though. Probably what we have to look forword to from Jones and Bour. And just for the heck of it, I BBRd Sing, and apparently, in 2010 he had a .349/.482/.702/1.184 line with 27 HR for Siux Falls of the Indy league.

  16. Quade was pretty defiant about that today apparently, saying that Colvin has to earn it and that he won't sit guys like Johnson for a week at a time. Consecutive years with my appreciation for the manager taking a complete nosedive. Quade isn't cut out for the job. As hot as Johnsons been lately, they may very well be showcasing him for the best waiver return possible. Id bet if we were to put him through waivers today, he wouldnt make it past the first few contenders(Cards, D Backs, Giants)
  17. I'd think that Beliveau should be first in line. He just has a $7.5 mil waste of space in front of him. fair enough....Beliveau has been more dominant than Dolis. They both may be viable bullpen options at this point....need to see what they can do. Knowing the Cubs, they'll promote them to Iowa and call up stupid Justin Berg and Jeff Stevens in September.
  18. When does Beliveau get some serious consideration? I know he's 24, making it difficult to refer to him as an emerging prospect, but he's quietly beem very good for the past 4 years. We have some decent LH relief prospects in Gaub and Maine, as well as Russell on the big league club, but Beliveau seems to be a guy who could be a big league late inning reliever very soon.

  20. I definitely hope the Cubs don't even consider something like that, but I do hope they pencil in Campana for the roster. Even if he has a .550 OPS next season (it's .654 so far this year but that might be a little inflated), he's one of the few players in the league who can be valuable on a bench for his defense/speed alone. Sure, he potentially has a role he can play. It's just a pet peeve of mine how worked up certain segments of the fanbase get over guys like him. I'd have no problem with Campana as a 5th outfielder/set of legs. I just hope that Rodrigo Lopez isn't suckering anyone into thinking he's a viable option for next years 5th starter.
  21. somehow i doubt this. one of these days we're going to have a fred post saying "Greetings one and all from beautiful Gary, IN !!!" why on earth would Fred stop in Gary long enough to post when he is so close to home? fair point. i was just thinking of the world place i've ever been. It really is a God awful town.
  22. It's about damned time. It seems as though virtually every team in baseball has produced more elite talent than the Cubs in the past 10 years. We produced Maddux in the mid-late '80's, Grace in the late 80's, and then Wood, Prior, and Zambrano, and it's questionable whether or not any od them are truely elite, although Prior and Wood certainly would have been without the injuries.
