    Hard to revell in the misery of the Padres fans. It's like laughing at a crippled orphan whose dog just got run over. All misery porn is good misery porn. Plus, 1984. were you even alive? Yes. Damn the 1984 Padres to take advantage of the 1984 Cubs choking. They should have taken it easy on them.

    Laugh at the BFIB if you will, but theres something to be said about a fan base who doesn't boo the holy hell out of Nick Punto every time he comes to bat and drops the soap in a big situation.

    A lot of guys on that list I'd hate to see go, but fair or not, we're going to have to give up something and I'd rather it be a few of these guys than any of the few that could help us in the near future(Brett, McNutt, Szczur) or some of the 2011 class. We don't know what's going on in these talks, and if Ricketts is saying no to anyone with any value, these talks arent going to progress without Selig stepping in.

If you ever see him in person hes this short stubby dude. /name dropping I doubt anyone will be seeing Jay anytime soon. I'm guessing his in a dive bar somewhere drowning in a bottle of $8 scotch.

    *sigh* Moorad and Ricketts are buddies. Moorad loves Byrnes. Therefore, Moorad will not stand in the way of Hoyer coming to the Cubs, thereby allowing him to promote Byrnes to GM. You sure do a lot of sighing I do? Yeah, but it's business. If the Red Sox are asking for an arm and a leg, the Padres should at least get a finger and a toe, especially considering that there really was no rift between Hoyer and his boss.

    The Red Sox figure they can out wait the Cubs on this one. Which is an increasingly insane viewpoint. The only thing that the Red Sox could hope to pin the Cubs on was that they HAD to have Epstein as the GM, and they'd need him to start making decisions soon. With the news that Epstein would be president and Hoyer is the GM target, there is little urgency in adding a President of Baseball Ops immediately. Or at the very least they can wait a lot longer than the Sox would want to before their sending Theo 6.5 million dollars and the entire organization isn't sure if Theo is actually running things during actual offseason decisions. Levine was dead on, what children. Someone compared this to a divorce earlier, and it certainly seems like the negotiating style is spiteful. Hope it doesn't come to a 2012 scenario. What I've read is that Hoyer wouldn't make the jump until Theo is on board, but I assume the timing could be moved up if necessary. I hate when the parents use the kids as leverage in these situations. Poor little Theo is going to end up so scarred. Surely he'll turn to the drugs and rock and roll music.

    Besides, with a bunch of God foresaken small market teams starting to come into power and potential World Series matchups that nobody outside of their markets care about, both The Cubs and Reds Sox are two teams that it is in MLBs best interest to both be very good. If this is something that will help both teams, it's what Selig and Co. want. It will happen.

    Why is nobody entertaining the fact that maybe the reason that they keep denying a deal being done to any media members who come calling is because they were specifically told by Selig NOT to make the announcement until a set time? Just saying.
