  1. you're programmed in multiple languages? fancy. Bocchi is like a second language to him. But what he really needs is someone that speaks the binary language of moisture vaporators.
  2. I hope Theriot gets the GM job in St Louis one day.
  3. http://www.csnchicago.com/cubs/boos-and-big-contract-never-bothered-alfonso-soriano NBC Sports tweeted this article. I love this comment...
  4. I think they now have a direct tie to every Rays manager (assuming Maddon doesn't fall through). Maddon, Piniella, McRae and Rothschild
  5. http://m.cubs.mlb.com/news/article/100210710/cubs-fire-manager-rick-renteria?adbid=10152745273380659&adbpl=fb&adbpr=30530605658&partnerId=as_chc_20141031_34803437 Renteria's gone.
  6. I was at this game and hung around to watch Dascenzo throw the 9th for the Cubs. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN199107020.shtml He actually pitched a couple of times and the season after this he showed up to pitchers meetings at spring training. IIRC, he had a 2 inning stint earlier that year.

  8. I never really considered '07 to be an epic choke. Maybe it's because of how bad we were in 2006, but I remember 2007 being a somewhat surprising season where you didn't expect them to make much noise in the playoffs. I was referring to 1969, 1984, 2003 and 2008. I'll be honest, I was thinking the regular season choke job you were talking about was 2004.
  9. That ball must have been what, 3 foot off the ground?
  10. For all of the talk by commentators about how big of an advantage NFL teams have, in terms of level playing field, the NFL has the exact same number of teams that haven't made the playoffs in the last 10 years...3. The Bills, Browns and Raiders.
  11. It ain't gonna be 4 years for Lester. That's stupid. And there's no guarantee of a signing. 6 years of Lester + Castro is still >>> Hamels w/no Castro I get it, you love Hamels, but giving up Castro for him is dumb when there are other, and better, alternatives.
  12. Jon Lester is 11 days younger and, at least this year, has been a better pitcher and abused far less. But thats the whole point. Now, could the Cubs sign him for 4 years? Probably not. They'd have to 6 years and pay him well into ineffectivity. But they'd only be paying money, not giving up a commodity at least as valuable as what they'd be getting in return (when their actual salary is figured in). Lester + Castro is >>>>> Hamels w/no Castro
  13. I guess I should add...if the choice is Lester for 4-6 years (assuming similar AAV) and just money or Hamels for 4 years and losing Castro, that's so easy it's stupid...Lester.

  15. Two of Lester/Scherzer/Shields with Arrieta, Turner, Hendricks filling out the rest.
  16. I saw Maddux's last AAA start and his first MLB start. The AAA start was just luck, wasn't planning on that one, a friend of mine called and was going and had an extra ticket. We'd bought the Chi Cubs tickets well before he was called up.
  17. And Braun in a time frame completely unrelated to his other incidents.
  18. :-k You have 41,000 posts on a baseball message board. I think he meant the slang in baseball. And I'd agree, it is terrible.
  19. Was this posted and I missed it? http://www.buzzfeed.com/rachelzarrell/white-sox-or-white-power
  20. My favorites from childhood through now... Bill Madlock Dave Kingman Andre Dawson Sammy Sosa Aramis Ramirez Out of those, Sosa is easily my favorite.
  21. It still amazes me how many people that work in baseball (in organizations, announcers and commentators) have so little understanding of how the game they have been involved in for most of their life actually works.
  22. tomorrow. javy is going to hit 4 HR Not with game time temps in the upper 30's and an 80% chance of rain. And it's supposed to snow tomorrow. I'd bet tonight's game is rained out, but they have a good chance of playing tomorrow night (low in the 20's though) and Saturday. Weather is supposed to be pretty crappy for most of the next week.
  23. 75. Good rebounds from Castro and Rizzo, Olt is decent, so is Castillo. Bullpen is really good, starters are ok. Not a big sell off, but Barney is one of them that goes, so that's worth an extra win or two. Baez comes up June-ish and is a monster the first month, comes back to earth some, then levels off at a decent level the last couple of months.
