Both sides come out uncomfortable but not destroyed by backing out now. The whole "One side or the other has all the leverage" stuff is just coming from meathead fanbois. Yeah, both sides have something to lose and little to gain if this falls apart. It is in the interests of both parties that this work out. And it needs to work itself out soon, I'm sick of being held hostage by my computer. Just give them two of JJax/Vitters/Castillo/Flaherty/Lake/McNutt and let's call it a day already. No reason to give into anything for a couple days. See if the Red Sox cave, and if they don't, then finally settle on a couple of those guys. Drag this on as long as possible though and do everything you can to not lose a top 10-20 prospect. I'd send them JJax, Castillo and Flaherty right now if that's all they wanted.

"Whatever they were doing last year"? The Cubs had one of the more aggressive drafts/international signings of any team in the league. So yea, I guess that'd be perfectly fine, actually.

Pujols is going to stay. I'd to get Fielder. If he gets too fat to play 1st base (which would be several years into his contract) I'm sure a lot of AL teams would take him in a trade and DH him. Man, I'm worried about the Yanks snatching him up tho. Everything I've read ever has pointed to the Yankees not going after Pujols or Fielder. Do you have any actual reason for said worrying? No. Just that they are the Yankees and you never know what they will do or buy. You actually kinda do when they have Tex at 1B and no need for DH.
