I would be very surprised if that came into his thought process at all. I'd also be surprised if he hadn't thought about those other things long before a deal was presented to him. Both of these. And all told, Dempster seems to be the rare player that has also seriously taken the Cubs' best interests into account.

All we're saying is that those that are bent out of shape about a less than 24 hour delay come off as a bit silly, when there's been no trade rejection. Athletes in control of where and when they want to be traded/signed is the new norm, especially in the age of Twitter. Dempster, if anything, is handling this much better than some other high profile trades that have been attempted in major sports recently. Well yea, actually getting upset over it would be kind of dumb.

All I've been trying to say here is that a professional athlete, especially one in the age of Twitter and who has knowingly been on the trade block for weeks (if not months), comes off a bit silly to me if they're upset the media broke a trade involving them before the GM's could get to them with it. This happens all the time and is the new norm. Dempster, if anything, has had more forewarning than most athletes get. That said this argument is a bit ridiculous as we don't even know if that's the actual hold up to begin with.

In the age of Twitter, it probably wouldn't hurt to be a little more pragmatic. It's not hurting anything as is. Not yet, anyway.

While I understand being annoyed by the initial surprise of it all, I would be fairly annoyed with Dempster if it was why he ultimately denies the trade.
