  1. Going by past history only, I know that all of the games aren't on TV or radio. If you would just like to listen you could get Gameday Audio for the full year for get MLB.TV which allows you the option to watch or listen only (because Gameday Audio is included free). I may be totally wrong, but I think with the Gameday Audio you only get games that are broadcast on WGN radio anyways. So if you live within range of 720 you won't get to listen to any extra games. Gameday Audio allows you to listen to the home or away feed.
  2. Cubs new hitting coach Gerald Perry's job is to help the team be more disciplined at the plate (overall). Included in that will, hopefully, be a higher team OBP. DLee says: Perry's philosohy Interesting fact Perry's thoughts on the upcoming season
  3. NO idea because the schedule of games, they will have, hasn't been released yet. In all fairness, the Cubs didn't offer a lot of games locally last ST. The 14 televised games this year is a record.
  4. This year MLB.TV will show over 150 games.

  6. The nation ain't buying it. Prior will have to start 25+ games this year before people start believing again. There's no doubt about it but you can't argue that Prior starting a ST game isn't news. Good news. I'm not arguing that at all. I'm in danger of exploding with optimism if Prior gets off to a decent start in spring training games. I'm just saying that the national audience isn't buying it. Far too many people drafted him in fantasy baseball expecting more. I think the typical thought is similar to my friends' yesterday at a hangover solving diner breakfast. One guy basically said "When is Prior going to decide to not be a pu***?" And the other guys just assumed he'd miss most of the season. I didn't really get into it, as I was concentrating on my chocolate chip pancakes. But that's how they think. I agree. I'm hoping he quiets his critics this year.

  9. Lou is the man. Got to love his optimism. I'm also glad he was able to tell the nation that Prior is fine!
  10. In other news, these sports talk radio guys are totally over analyzing this Prior thing.
  11. Well, they did commit by saying yesterday he would be held back for a start on March 7th or 8th. I'm sure they were just being cautious but something outside of Prior feeling good (because he's been saying that all along if you believe the reports) prompted a change of course.
  12. I agree but if he really is OK there's no reason to have a week of negative press if it can be avoided (especially considering the last few offseasons). It'd be pretty troubling and discouraging if the ballclub was letting the media's reaction dictate decisions such as this. We're in a lot of trouble if they've devolved into making the popular choice over the smart one. Totally agree. I don't think it was central but I do believe it played a part because if Prior's healthy why take the heat all week (not to mention stressing us all out)?

  14. I bet it had some influence. Piniella is trying to keep his camp positive so all the chatter/news here in Chicago probably got back to him (or he read it himself online) which, in turn, prompted his discussion with Prior today. Either way I'm happy.
  15. Are you kidding? "2 yr wonder Wood" has had more than two good years and he was under a longterm contract which is why the team has been patient with him. Kerry Wood wouldn't have survived this long without a tremendous upside. Wade Miller's age, risk level, and small contract make him easily expendable. Add to that diminishing stuff and its a recipe for getting released. what is he 30 now? Do you remember when he was in contention for the Cy Young? risk Level? He pitched five games last year, not much to judge a man on. Kerry is coming in with a torn shoulder, and he over-ruled doctors, he definetly has a risk value and now a low contract. I see Wade as a guy that will get traded and be another Denise Eckersly, but not with the drinking problem. LOL, Wade Miller was never in any serious contention for the Cy Young! He's a year older than Wood and like I said, Kerry was under contract and the fact that he is homegrown comes into play as well. Wade Miller is very easily expendable. Wood's decision to rehab instead of surgery is probably a wise choice. He said he spoke with other players who successfully completed shoulder rehabs instead of going under the knife. Miller does not equal Dennis Eckersly
  16. I don't think so. Prior said he didn't know Piniella had planned to push his start back. He claims he's ready.
  17. I got them from Yahoo Sports. I expect more to be posted later.
  18. Mully and Hanley had my blood boiling!
  19. Thanks. Do you know where that was posted? I know I didn't see it at BP. Edit: NM, it was ESPN Insider "...Prior threw "very well" yesterday according to a source that watched him." This is a lot different than Carroll's contention that Prior was hurt last ST.

  22. Nope, I agree with you. I love baseball too much to be in a drunken stooper during a game.
  23. It seems like Will Carroll has had some inside info, the last two Spring Trainings, about the health of Mark Prior. I'm curious to know if someone has read anything recent about Prior from Carroll. IIRC, I read a conversation of Carroll's that claimed Prior was looking good (according to what his sources were telling him) but I could have it confused with another writer...
  24. I think Zambrano will get an extension.
  25. They do and they will, if they can't trade him. I'll bet he doesn't see opening day on the Padres roster. $4 mil to sit on the bench, I doubt it. Agreed. It was nice that Walker won his hearing, but the only way he actually makes that $3.95M salary this year is if the Padres are able to trade him this spring. IMO it's far more likely that he'll get cut, the Pads will eat around $650K, and Walker will be scrounging around MLB looking for a bench job for 1 or 2 mil come the close of ST. Is that true? I thought it would be a guarenteed contract for the whole thing since he is vested or won the arby? I didn't realize they could cut him for a percentage of his salary. If a team loses and arb hearing, they can cut the player prior to opening day and pay only a small % of the arb award. An earlier poster said it was 1/6, and that sounds right. I believe I read that they would only owe him $650k if released.
