  1. ARod made some intriguing statement's on the Mike and the Mad Dog radio show. Specifically, he said he is looking for reassurances from Yankees management (that he's wanted) and the fans... This all sounds like a guy who will opt out of his current contract. The NY Post reports the story.
  2. If you were wondering what became of Adam, you'll be happy to know that the Royals picked him up. He's currently fighting for a roster spot but with limited Spring Training at-bats he's probably going back to AA. Link
  3. FYI, Cotts is out of the running for the fifth starter job. Tribune I think Lou is just being diplomatic in his comments about keeping Cotts in the bullpen. It's painfully obvious that he wasn't cutting it as a starter...
  4. I can absolutely see one of the bullpen arms being traded. For some reason, I think Ohman is being shopped but that may just be because the Cubs traded for Cotts (but the way Cotts has looked he needs to be sent down).
  5. Piniella admits to wanting two extra infielders. Considering Lou also wants a 12 man pitching staff, I would have to think the team isn't going to carry an extra/utility OF. So Pagan/Coats may not be going north with the team. I hope Muskat is speculating about Tomas Perez and Ronny Cedeno... Muskat/Cubs.com I think this means Ronny is headed to AAA. The Cubs want a polished backup.
  6. A new article on Cubs.com says Lou will rank the fifth starter candidates following Guzman's performance on Friday. Miller's velocity was in the high 80s however, he hit 90mph once.
  7. Get it done Rocky I wonder if this is going 10?
  8. Oh hell ya! Thanks man! compliments of RichHillisabeast
  9. Gameday http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/y2006/gd.html?2007_03_13_chnmlb_arimlb_1&brand=mlb
  10. Wow, they tied the game quickly!
  11. On a positive note, our mostly MiL lineup has held its own against Arizona's regulars.
  12. LOL, I don't think the Cubs are going to call up Cedeno this year unless they are forced to do so (by not having another choice).
  13. Huh, who is Jesus Valdez? Minor league OF, he was at Peoria last season and will be at Daytona this coming season. I see... Is this his first action this Spring?
  14. AZ has scored in every inning except the 2nd & 3rd
  15. Fox PH for Ward so I guess he walked
  16. 7.0 IP, 6 ER, 10 R, 17 H, 3 K/0 BB. That's a 2.42 WHIP. And Aardsma's stat line: 5.2IP, 7 ER, 8 R, 11 H, 4 K/3 BB, 11.12 ERA, 2.5 WHIP My goodness it gets worse...
  17. 7.0 IP, 6 ER, 10 R, 17 H, 3 K/0 BB. That's a 2.42 WHIP. That's disgusting! What? A Whip of approx 2.5 isn't good? LOL, it's frightening. :P
  18. You're not sure why that would have anything to do with SS? SS is a MI position. A MI, by definition, has to be able to play SS. True-but to get a backup MI, all they need is somebody who can play 2nd or SS, as long as they are confident that the other 3 can all play both SS and 2nd. There will never be a situation where they will absolutely have to have that other backup play SS, so there's no reason why the backup would have to play SS. That would be preferable, but not a real deterrent if they find a good backup who only plays 2B. Izturis is coming back from injury so the Cubs may want a defensive insurance policy for SS. This would allow both DeRosa and Theriot to play in the same game while keeping Izturis (or his would be substitute) in the game for defensive purposes. Well if Izturis got hurt during a game that both DeRosa and Theriot was playing, then whichever one was playing 2nd could switch over to SS and the backup come in to play 2B. It would be great if we could get a guy who could cover both positions, but I would rather just get the BPA who could play at least one of those 2 positions. Yes, but I think the bottom line message here is that Lou isnt comfortable with the defense that DeRosa or Theriot provide at SS. In an emergency, one or the other could play SS but if Izturis goes down for an extended period, the Cubs probably want a skilled defensive specialist to step in and play.
