    I think we are really blowing this out of proportion. He wont pitch today and the AllStar game isn't until Tuesday. Even if he does pitch an inning, the Cubs next game is Friday night so there will be plenty of time for him to rest! Marmol is human, I think adding him to the team will be beneficial mentally. He really wanted to be apart of the AS team and he was a major factor in the Cub's having the best record in MLB through the first half.

    It doesnt matter. He has a 4.13 ERA for the season as a setup guy on a team that already has 7 other All Stars. He was just booed off the mound at his home ballpark yesterday. I'm not saying Marmol doesn't have All Star caliber talent. It's just a really strange and awkward time to be named an All Star. Maybe this was Lou lobbying to Hurdle in an attempt to get Marmol's confidence up. Still really bizarre. That wouldn't surprise me at all. Reportedly, Lou lobbied Hurdle to get Z on the team...

    Hopefully, he won't pitch but I do think Marmol was disappointed to have not been named earlier. I saw him interviewed on CSN, before the selections were announced, and he was lobbying hard for a spot. It may be a much needed boost for him to attend.

    Yes, it was just confirmed on The Score's baseball report. Clint Hurdle added him and now the Cubs have 8 All Stars

    I kinda feel sorry for them; those guys haven't had too many times to get really excited this year.

    WOW. Just Wow For all the brewers fans, cardinals fans, and sox fans who were making fun of the Cubs bullpen, on the various message boards I visited today, I'm glad they all got an up close look at their own bullpen situations. Only the sox survived but it took a miraculous play to do so. 5.5 games up!

    I'm not sure if this has already been addressed but the game is not blacked out because it starts before the 2:55pm - 6pm CT blackout window. Take a look at today's MLB.TV listing guide and it's easy to discern the games that are restricted (and those that aren't). http://mlb.mlb.com/mediacenter/index.jsp#20080712

    The Score is claim a major trade is in the works, probably for Harden and it includes some of the cubs' ML'ers. Lou is 40 minutes late to his media meetings that take place before all games....

    No ball was dropped. We're talking about prospects here, not dollars, so Hendry was limited. I'm also not so sure the Cubs would go after him in the offseason.

    LOL, you sound jealous. :) Seriously, it's a great move for them but I agree with the gist of your message; it might not directly impact the overall outcome of the Cubs' season.

    Wow. So the Cubs suck because they were actually relevant for 25 years while the Brewers stockpiled young talent? You might want to avoid Brewers blogs for a few days. Let them have their fun. It is kinda pathetic because if the Cubs hand landed CC I don't think anyone on here would be commenting on how the Brewers suck but who cares? They're ecstatic because of the trade but it isn't a guarantee of anything (the Mets looked great on paper after getting Santana too and they have either not scored enough runs for him or their bullpen has blow his games).

    This pickup by the Brewers shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. I disagree with those saying the Cubs need to react to this move; by all reports, Hendry has been inquiring about the availability of pitchers and I'm sure he will do his best to acquire someone but the Cubs did not have enough to counter with LaPorta. Anyway, as someone else said, I see CC as a replacement for what Gallardo provided the Brewers earlier. I still don't think this makes them a better team than the Cubs but they are primed to win the Wild Card if he pitches as expected. Of course, they still have concerns with the rest of their rotation (not including Sheets) and bullpen. We'll see what happens...

    Steve Stone actually implied that the Cubs might be stealing signs last weekend during his broadcast of the sox game. He specifically pointed to the difference in their home and road scoring as well (so he could be the baseball person being referred to in the article). I know teams will try to do things to get an advantage but I thought it was ridiculous then and now. I can't remember which game (actually, I think it was the second game) or inning but I believe it was while the Cubs were batting... Anyone with Gameday Audio, and a little extra time, could go back and find it. The Cubs are really no different than most other teams this season; they play better at home than on the road.

    The guy who is 32 for his last 32 in save opportunities dating back to 2004, including 24 for 24 in 2006? He has missed a year after surgery, but he does have quite a streak going, and isn't a bad option for the Braves at the closer spot. Yeah him. LOL, it was a knee jerk reaction because he started the inning with a 9 ERA.

    Sori would help but let's not forget that Marshall was taking Z's start. Most likely this game is a win with Z on the mound.
