  1. I know I have read mostly complaints on his drafts on this board, but would like to know if everyone still feels that way now. Tim has had 2 drafts now, the first was in a very poor year for drafting, and this year was a very good year for drafting according to the experts. So how do you rate his job so far? I know it is far too early to really tell, just interested in seeing if there is any support for the job he has done. Personally, I like the job he has done. He has drafted position players and hopefully, some of them will make it and be star quality. Most of them have gotten off to a good start in the lower minors. I have hope for his draft picks so far. How about you?
  2. Can someone list for me the minor league records for our teams this year including both halves. Sure would appreciate it.
  3. Baseball America says the Cubs signed Matt Harrington to a no-bonus minor league contract. What do you think?
  4. Sorry if this has already been listed before, but I haven't seen it. Sure would love your comments on these players we now have if you have any such comments. Cubs: Signed 1b Jesse Hoorelbuke Signed rhp Hugo Castellanos Signed rhp Mike Garcia Signed rhp Makoto Suzuki Acquired out. James Adduci from Marlins for future considerations
  5. Hi everyone. I have not logged in and posted for quite awhile, although I have read here most every day. I remember hearing Bob Brenly say that Matt Murton would win a batting title. I know he is very high on Murton. Did anyone else hear that comment. Don't remember if it was during a game or on WGN sometime. I sure wish Dusty would have played Ryan Theriot every day at 2B so we would know whether he could handle the duties next season. Instead, even when he has started and done well, he is benched the next day, for a no hit, no field, player. Go figure. Fire Dusty. Pastor Tom Spain
  6. And Jones signed to close for the Tigers, but I would have gotten a shot at signing him first, and would have tried to get Marte before the Braves traded him to Boston. Pastor Tom Spain
  7. I have tried to figure out what I would have done this off season if I had been the GM of the Cubs. Here is what I would have loved to do as the GM of the Cubs for 2006 and beyond: Trade Prior and Barrett to Atlanta for Franceour, McCann and Marte. Trade Marte, Murton, Pie, Dopirak, Harvey, Hill, Wuerst, Pinto and Nolasco to Florida for Cabrera, Pierre and Willis. Lineup looks like Pierre Walker Lee Cabrera Ramirez Franceour McCann Cedeno Rotation Zambrano Willis Wood Maddux Williams/Rusch For the bull pen I would have signed Todd Jones in addition to Howry and Eyre. Todd Jones can close if Dempster falters this season. Dempster Jones Howry Williamson Ohman Eyre Bench Players I would have signed Mabry and Marrerro because they play multiple positions and I like the flexibility. Mabry Marrerro Blanco Hairston Perez Either go with the extra pitcher, or sign another bench player, to be decided by the health of Kerry Wood in spring training. I feel this is a much stronger team than what we will be fielding in 2006 with Jim Hendry at the helm. Could these deals have been made, I have no idea, but if I had been the GM, I would have been trying to make these moves. Tell us what you think, and what you would have tried to do if you were the Cubs GM. Pastor Tom Spain
  8. Though I like the kids, and our minor leagues, I propose the following trade. Don't tear it up too bad now folks. Murton, Cedeno, Williams, Wuerst, Hill, Pie, Dopirak, Harvey, for Cabrera and Willis Imagine the lineup and the starting rotation. That is why I would make the deal. Pastor Tom Spain
  9. I am always amazed at what people think our players are worth on this board. Such as thinking we can get a great shortstop for Williams and Cedeno or something close to it. I believe it would take Prior to get him. I would be willing to trade Prior for Dunn or Tejada either one. After all, I realize you have to give up something to get something. While I like Cedeno and Murton, and pray Pie and Hill become something great, I don't see us landing a big fish with any or all of them conbined. It just takes more. I take the realistic approach. And if Hendry can land another deal such as the Aramis Ramirez deal or the Derrek Lee deal, which were steals, then so much the better. But steals don't happen every day. Pastor Tom Spain
  10. 1. Felix Pie +10 +10 2. Rich Hill +10 +6 3. Ryan Harvey +10 +4 4. Ronny Cedeno +10 +8 5. Eric Patterson +10 +4 6. Brian Dopirak +10 +6 7. Ricky Nolasco +10 +10 8. Sean Marshall +10 +7 9. Renyel Pinto 10. Sean Gallagher 135
  11. I was thinking about Pie and Prior for Dunn and Kearns, then sign Furcal and A J Burnett. Weakens the starting pitching, but I love the lineup. Just hope Wood is healthy if we made that deal. Starting Pitchers Zambrano Burnett Wood Maddux Rusch Lineup Furcal (ss) Cedeno (2b) Lee (1b) Dunn (lf) Ramirez (3b) Kearns (cf) Murton(rf) Barrett © Don't know if Kearns can play cf or not. Either he or Murton would need to play cf. Pastor Tom Spain
  12. The talking head really didn't elaborate on it, just said it like it was a well known fact, of which I sure didn't know anything about. I only wish I knew what antics Ramirez has done. That is why I would ask the question myself, cause I do not know any antics he has done. I certainly am not one wanting to trade Ramirez. I love him at 3b. Our 3b hole has finally been filled, and very well in my opinion. Pastor Tom Spain
  13. One of the talking heads on The Score was saying that Aramis Ramirez had worn out his welcome in Wrigley by some of his antics and should be traded. I did not realize these feelings existed at all, and was surprised to hear it being stated. What has Ramirez done? Anyway, if that is the case, what could we get in a trade for Ramirez? I would think he would only be traded for another great player. Here is a partial list of mine: Manny Ramirez Adam Dunn Alex Rodriquez I think Ramirez for Manny Ramirez would be fantastic. Sign Nomar to play 3b, and have Manny in lf. Move Murton to rf. The only problem I have with such a lineup is it is all righthanded. Lee Walker Cedeno Nomar Barrett Manny Patterson Murton That would work for me as long as we have some lefthanders on the bench who can fill in and hit, like John Mabry who I like very much as he can play several positions. Pastor Tom Spain
  14. Named Mark Pawelek the #1 Prospect and Sammy Baez the #17 Prospect. Allan Simpson is having a chat on the Arizona and Gulf Coast Leagues Top 20 at 2ET today. Pastor Tom
  15. Thanks Joe Cub: I could look them all up, but it takes away time that I need to do other things. I rather just see the records instead of having to take the time to look them up. Sorry. Thanks NCCubbie Fan: Looks like we had one real good team at AA and nothing else to write home about. I have been keeping these minor league records for many years now. Just haven't followed as closely this year as in years past because of my schedule. Tell your Pastor Tom hello from this Pastor Tom. Thanks again. Pastor Tom
  16. Can someone please list our minor league records for the year, including records for both halves of the season for those that split their seasons into two halves. Thanks. Pastor Tom
  17. Amazing how some on this board know Hill is washed up at age 25 after 3 starts. Simply amazing. I don't know how good he is going to be, but he will have a chance to prove he is a major league pitcher. Steve Stone said he definitely would in the rotation next year. And I will take him at his word. He deserves an opportunity at age 25 to show what he can do. He is not washed up after 3 games. Come on. Pastor Tom Spain
  18. I worked on this during the morning, and got on to post this, and found this thread already going strong. So I will just add my part to this thread. This is what I would like to see for 2006. And want to know if you think it is feasible, I think it is, and it would be "going for it" in 2006. Sign Brian Giles to 2 year $12 million deal. Sign A J Burnett to 5 year $60 million deal. Trade Matt Murton, Rich Hill, Jerome Williams to Reds for Adam Dunn. I would definitely add a couple lower minor leaguers if need be to make this deal happen. Trade Corey Patterson, Ronny Cedeno, Sergio Mitre to Seattle for their closer Eddie G. LINE UP Lawton Walker Lee Dunn Ramirez Giles Nomar Barrett STARTING PITCHERS Wood Prior Zambrano Burnett Maddux BULL PEN Eddie G. Dempster Rusch-can start in case of a injury which is sure to come. Ohman Wuerst Williamson Novoa I hate trading the kids, but I want to go for it next season, and this is definitely going for it next season.
  19. Here is one I don't like: Lawton Walker Lee Ramirez Burnitz Barrett Patterson Cedeno Here is one I like much better, with one trade: Lawton Walker Lee Ramirez Burnitz Nomar Kearns Barrett That is trading Ronny Cedeno for Kearns. See how much that lineup looks over the other one. Otherwise, I am ready for a whole new outfield, keeping Lawton maybe, and maybe Burnitz. I love Corey but...... Pastor Tom Spain
  20. The reason I listed Ryan Harvey ahead of Pie is because Harvey already has about 17 hrs and 75 rbi, and take that over a full season and get 25-30 hrs and 100 rbi. Harvey can easily be expected to hit 30+ hrs and drive in 100+ every season once he reaches the majors. Those numbers are not expected from Pie, they are 2 different players. I love them both very much, but just see Harvey as a bigger player in my estimation.
  21. I suppose you all heard Hendry on the Cubs game about the 3rd inning and he sure didn't sound like he has anything cooking. It was all about getting Wood, Nomar, and Williamson to the Cubs on Friday. That will be a pretty amazing day, take it like we trade for the 3 of them on Friday. If Hendry has anything cooking, he sure didn't let on during the game. Something can always heat up, but at this moment, after hearing Jim Hendry on the telecast, I would say the Cubs won't be doing much if anything before tomorrow. They are just looking foward to getting the 3 guys back and making a run with a healthy club.
  22. I see them as: 1. Ryan Harvey 2. Felix Pie 3. Ronny Cedeno 4. Matt Murton 5. Eric Patterson The 6-10 would be: 6. Brian Dopirak 7. Jake Fox 8. Geovany Soto 9. Scott Moore 10. Ryan Theriot So how would you list them at the moment?
  23. The Score had Jim Hendry on to talk about the DuBois trade. He had some interesting comments on several items: Said Gerut was a better piece of the puzzle right now than DuBois, because he has had success in the major leagues. Can play all 3 outfield positions, although is NOT a center fielder. Laughed when asked about the Patterson rumor to the Yankees. Said Corey was a Cub. Said Pie would have been up before Greenberg is he had not been injured, but it would be unfair to be out for several weeks and then brought up at age 20. Means he probably won't be up until September call-ups the way it sounds. Said without setting a date that we are close to getting Nomar back and Williamson in the pen. Thinks those will be big for the team. Is still looking for any pieces that will make the team better, whether a little bit better, or a whole lot better. Then the Score had on an Announcer of the Indians who said Gerut is not the same player as he was in '03. Has not come back from his knee injury and surgery to where he was then. And didn't know if he ever would. So the Score guys were talking about whether or not we got damaged goods.
  24. Talk on the Score was about our schedule, about 70 games remaining, and 23 of those against the Cards and Astros. We might have the toughest schedule down the stretch of any team this year. Do you feel we still have a chance of catching up in the Wild Card Race with that tough schedule looking us in the face?
  25. We filled a hole trading Raffy for a closer and filled a hole trading Joe Carter for a #1 starter in Rick Sutcliffe, but I sure would have enjoyed watching both Raffy and Carter in Cubs uniforms for their careers.
