Interesting little factoid that I didn't know/hadn't realized until they showed it on TBS' telecast of the ATL-StL game... StL and the Cubs have the fewest blown saves in the NL, if not the MLB, since the AS Break; StL with 2 and Cubs only once.
Unless MIL can somehow post 3 losses after playing just one game, I'm sadly thinking that's not gonna happen. You do realize that the Cubs are 1.5 ahead of the Brewers, right? A win and a brewers lost turns it into a 2.5 game lead. You do realize that I'm pessimistically not counting on the Cubs winning today, right? A loss and only 3 Brewers losses would make it a 2.5 game lead at that point. I'll happily eat crow until I puke, and then shovel some more down the hatch, to be wrong about the Cubs losing... but just a gut feeling.
Who knew it was possible to have a knee-jerk reaction before the game even starts? Figured I'd get warmed up, make sure I'm ready to go once the game is underway.
Jones in the 2 hole, Floyd 5th, and Monroe starting against a RHP - who we don't know well, and practically pwned us the one and only other time we faced him. Must be "give-away game" day for Lou. Lincecum better be on his best today, or we're gonna enter the MIL series only .5 up.
{after 8/25}; NL Central: CHC 66-62 -- MIL 65-64 1.5 StL 62-64 3.0 CIN 59-70 7.5 Florida @ Cincinnati; 9-3 Reds in top 4 Atlanta @ St Louis; 1:15p CST Milwaukee @ BaBondses; 3:05p CST Cubs @ Arizona; 3:40p CST GO CUBS, Bondses, Braves, and Fish! {I know, I know, Cincy is 7.5 back - could be 6.5 if they're current disposition vs FLA holds, and Cubs lose - and shouldn't even be an afterthought at this point, but well, this is the NL Central afterall.}
We either win big or lose big... no in-between. I'd give away a first-born cousin if we get to celebrate "white flag time" later tonight AND SF sweeps the Beerdrinkers.
I know this isn't a popular thought right now, but going in, I would have settled for a 1-2 series this weekend. Yeah, you WANT to win every game, but a 3-3 trip ain't the end of the world and we know we'll still be a .5 up on MIL starting that HUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGEEEEE series on Tuesday night - if the worst overall scenario occurs tomorrow afternoon.
How in the hell did Wuertz pitch that whole inning and we are only still down 3-1??? Well, fake rally time again. DeRosa singles; Murton singles-DeRo to 3rd; Jones Ks but wild pitch-DeRo scores & Murton to 2nd; Ward singles, Murton to 3rd, 1 out and tying run at 3rd; Theriot hits into the game-ending 5-4-3.
