  1. Has anyone ever gone back and tested the accuracy of these projections? It's easy to create a forecasting model (OK, not really), but before I start getting happy or concerned I'd like to know if these projections have a history of being accurate.
  2. I think there's no doubt Burnitz is having a better year than Sammy, and that he is a solid player and a good acquisition (although, I think we likely overpaid for him). Still when he is far and away your best outfielder, you have a problem.
  3. Anyone notice he is having a really good year for Philadelphia. I know the Phillies are in contention; he plays CF not LF; and he's 100 years old. I see no reason why the Phillies would trade Lofton (especially to another team in the NL WC race). Still, he seems like one of those guys always on the move around the trade deadline. Dusty loves him and would play him (and let him bat leadoff). Just thought I'd throw another unlikely name out there to further muddy the water.
  4. Freel would be great, but he is currently injured (not sure for how long). Also, I can't see Dusty playing Freel over Hollandsworth. He isn't established enough. I agree though that Freel would plug a huge hole at the top of the line-up.
  5. All of these rumors seem to be starting in Denver. To me that indicates that the Rockies are trying to generate some buzz to put pressure on the Cubs or other teams interested in Wilson. The package suggested in the Trib today is utterly absurd for a player of Wilson's production (Cedeno, Welley, another prospect and $4Mil?). To me, this reeks of Rockie desperation. Unless he has suddenly lost his sanity, I trust Hendry not to make a deal this obviously bad for the Cubs.
  6. I think Len is a huge improvement over Chip. He definitely knows baseball better, and he has a much more laid back approach to calling a game. Len just needs to work on his home run call which is getting better, but still has a ways to go. Brenly is OK, but overall has been a disappointment. During this weekend's series with the Sox, he did manage to call out Patterson for not having his head in the game and mildly questioned Baker's use of Jerome Williams. I much prefered Stone, but hopefully Brenly will continue to grow into the job. That said, I think a booth of Len and Stone would have been pretty good.
