  1. Blue just cost us a run. Awesome. ARam is a beast. Wow.
  2. Glad to see Jones isn't the only OF we have that can spike a throw to the cutoff man.
  3. Floyd also smoked about 4-5 line drives that just happened to find defenders instead of going for base hits. Luck affects small sample sizes a lot. It's better to just use your eyes in cases like this. Floyd looked pretty bad in his last couple of games though, taking some real ugly swings. Murton will outplay Floyd given the ABs. I don't doubt that at all.
  4. Exactly. One could make the case that he is struggling becuase of sporadic use and PHing. That sporadic use and PHing are a direct cause of Murton's struggles. Put a young player in a position where he has to produce to "save" his job and he's going to get hacking. Considering Murton's history from last year, I'm not so sure that's true. His job was safe until he started hacking too much, and then when he had to fight for playing time he became much more patient. That same history though does give plenty of hope that he will work through this pretty soon, and I'm hoping (without being too upset if he doesn't) that he gets a good amount of the starts soon. I'd prefer if he didn't try to work through his .357 AVG and .400 OBP. He needs to work on the power a little bit, but when he's started I've been very happy with what I've seen. I want some of whatever you're smoking. I haven't seen him tattoo a ball yet and I've watched every game.
  5. Murton also got a couple lucky IF hits and weak bloopers to drop. I wouldn't get too excited about his numbers as a starter. Murton is struggling at the plate. That's pretty apparent if you watch him. First pitch hacking and failing to work the count really stand out with a player like Murton, who is a very good 2 strike hitter. Murton is not squaring the ball up or hitting with authority like he was in the second half of last season. IMO, with such a small sample size, it's better to go off what you see with the naked eye than look at a player's stats.
  6. I doubt Soriano is getting moved back to 2B, especially not in the near future with his sore hammy.
  7. Yup. I'm so glad we stayed out of the trade market to acquire starting pitching this offseason. Paying out the backside in FA wasn't pleasant, but dropping talent on the mediocrity that was available for an arm and a leg is even worse.
  8. I too think the Angels are the trading partner to deal with since they have the prospects and the money to sign Z to an extension.
  9. It's funny how you mentioned Mulder. Mulder had his BB/9 spike just like Z's has and then kaboom. What did Hudson net the A's? Dan Meyer? I think his minor league numbers looked pretty sweet until AAA, IIRC. He was one of the best left handed SP prospects in the game at the time of the trade, but his weird showing at AAA cost him some prospect status - probably an A- prospect. Z should bring us at least one good/great near ML ready prospect. I doubt he nets us Brandon Wood or Ervin Santana, although rumors had Santana being available for ARam last season. Maybe we could get Aybar, Jung, Conger, or Mathis. A decent catching prospect would be nice. I think Adenhart might be a little out of reach, but who knows.
  10. Anyone see Soriano "run" today? There's no way he's 100% healthy, or even 75%. Soriano should have been on the DL. Good call Hendry. Way to overrule your manager.
  11. This could be the best thing to ever happen to the Cubs organization. It could also be Greg Maddux Part II.
