  1. Seriously. Anything?
  2. We still have a tendancy to play down to our competition at times, let's hope they've put most of that behind them. Not more than any other of the elite teams in baseball.
  3. He's got two more years at $13 mil./year. Even an .800 OPS won't hurt too much in a platoon with Hoffpauir. Micah Hoffpauir is not a major league hitter.
  4. Don't take the pressure off him like that... jeeze.
  5. He definitely shouldn't be.
  6. I'm not gonna bite.
  7. I don't think I'm alone in saying I don't really care what the Cardinals do anymore.
  8. You act like everyone is saying Hoff is the next coming of Christ. Most people are saying he's doing well in AAA right now and could probably help us in RF this year. Is he the answer to all our problems? Of course not. I would expect Hendry or whatever GM we have this offseason to go after a legit RF and maybe move Fukudome to CF. I don't see why you can't let Pie, Hoff, and Dubois complete for the LF/CF job in spring training and sign Edmonds as a cheap lefty bat off the bench. At that point you have two great backup plans, and I really see Pie and/or Hoff breaking out in the bigs next year. If DuBois or Hoffpauir are competing to be starters next year, we're going to have a serious problem.
  9. Fun fact: Hoff has an IsoD of .28.
  10. 25 GS 164.3 IP 3.67 ERA 1.156 WHIP 137 K 36 BB http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2006/writers/john_donovan/11/27/hot.stove.questions/p1.pierre.jpg :(
  11. http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/matsuhi01.shtml Maybe? I hope? Matsui's first year looks quite a bit better.
  12. Fontenot might not play significantly better than Fukudome, but it's probable he'd be better. It's been reasonable to project him as a .780 OPS major leaguer for a few years now. Put DeRo in right and Fontenot at second for a while.
  13. i bet if you asked a player and manager from every team, they'd offer support for soriano as MVP too. But none of it has any merit? I can't believe, with the numbers as plain as day as to what Sori brings to the team (Win/loss record, personal stats), you ignore them as nothing. WOW!! ok, you're obviously trolling because nobody can be this good at misunderstanding things. So why doesn't he deserve consideration then? Because his numbers aren't good enough and he's missed too much time. That was so easy. So, MVP is about numbers only? Yea, the time he missed we were an average team, with him, we roll. See: Every other post in this thread. This argument has been shot down already. There was a lot more going on than just Soriano's absense that hurt the Cubs.

  15. Outstanding logic  Comparing a pitcher to a position player. LOL. 48-15 with him, 28-33 without him. Nuff said. Yup. And he really sets the tone for the offense in those games. Like I said, outstanding logic. Who cares what he does to help the team, they are obviously 48-15 with him and a horrible 28-33 without him. Are you trying to tell me that there is more to a player's value than W/L record in games they appear in? I put his personal stats up as well. Of course, you choose to ignore them, so carry on with Marmol for MVP!! Wooo hooo! No I saw them but didn't feel they added to your argument. His projected 162 game HRs and RBIs? His relative place among leadoff hitters? And your RPG argument didn't really prove anything, since you chose to ignore several times my points about the fact that there were other factors at play besides Soriano being out. Hmmm, Piniella's and DeRo's comments weren't good enough for you either? I can find all kinds of quotes by major leaguers talking up crappy players (like Theriot talking about Neifi's greatness). Sorinao's a crappy player?? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Stop being intentionally dense just because you made a really bad argument.

  17. This might be the stupidest someone has ever made themselves look over and over again on this board. And that's saying a lot.
  18. Well I did initially think the argument was 8 genetically engineered copies of Adam Dunn. I think it's pretty convenient for the proponents of this argument to only include his offensive skill set as the basis of the argument. Last I checked there is defense in baseball still and Adam Dunn freaking sucks in that aspect. Take the whole skill set or not at all, which is why the point is insane. I'll take the current Cubs team with 5.4 runs per game, and not a single 'Adam Dunn' in the lineup, and I'm pretty confident they'd beat a team with 8 Dunns quite handily. man you're such a bad poster the question is "is adam dunn a good hitter" the answer is "yes, if you had an entire lineup that hit like adam dunn, that offense would be incredible. better than four adam dunn's and four ryan theriots or 4 ichiros or whatever" how badly you're missing the subject is just mindblowing. You're telling me every hitter having an OPS over .900 is a good thing?
  19. I think playing in the AL helps ALOT. The AL is head and shoulders above the NL. False. Maybe not head and shoulders but.. yeah its not really that close. Of the really good teams in the AL besides the Angels (Rays, Red Sox, Twins and White Sox - if you want to call the last two really good), the Angels probably play 24-30 games against them, as opposed to like 60 against Oakland, Seattle and Texas. How anyone could not see the White Sox are a very good team at this point is beyond me.
  20. I'm not sure what Kevin Hart has done to deserve continuously making it back up.
  21. This should be Lilly's last inning. This kind of pitching can't be put up with.
  22. this. i'd probably be more concerned with Lee and Fukudome if they were having trouble scoring. as of now i'm not, though i might move Lee out of the 3-hole at this point. lou's bullpen usage concern's me a little, but not really if/when they reach the playoffs. there are enough days off in the playoffs for it not to be a concern. The guy that really comes to mind as who could hit 3rd besides Lee is Soriano and I don't think that's happening. I'm pretty happy with Rammy hitting 4th. I'm not really sure about who would take Lee's spot or where Lee would go. He seems best suited as a #2 hitter and that seems very unlikely to happen.
  23. Yep. This one. When the worst hitters in your lineup get on base at a .370 clip, you're fine.
