    It is becoming very clear that Hendry was hamstrung by Failure in the past. Not to let Hendry off the hook, because he has made some poor decisions, but it is clear who was the root of the problem.

    She is utterly worthless. Her and Couch are easliy supplanting Mariotti for #1 trash journalist at the Sun-Times. I actually enjoyed Mariotti's column today(I hate to say it but I did). He has been alot better of late.

Taking a talanted player's weakness and dividing it by salary has always been a gargage argument. umm, if you paid attention moron, the Cubs are looking to add 2 more starters from what I hear(plus Cotts will also get a chance to start). How is this relying on Prior? Did you even bother watching Hill that last few months of the season? . THEY PUT IN A BID NEAR 30 MILLION FOR HIM YOU FREAKIN IDIOT! . Just shut up you nimwit ummm ya think? :roll: ARE YOU SERIOUSLY THIS DUMB SLEEZBAG? CAN YOU NOT PUT 2 & 2 TOGETHER?!?!?!?!?!??!?!? MacPhail re-signs and 2 months later the Cubs(for the first time ever) out bid every team in MLB for a FA. THE PROBLEM WAS MacPhail YOU NIMWIT! Seriously, I have been the biggest Hendry basher out there,(and no doubt he has fumbled the football at times the past few seasons) BUT IT WAS MacPhail ALL ALONG! OPEN YOUR EYES FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. I cannot take this crap journalism anymore, I just can't.

    I think a better option would be to try and make the offense better and still play the season. We just did make our offense better. How much will be the key. Will Soriono mirror last season again? Will D. Lee put up his 2005 Numbers? Its a safe bet Aram will remain steady. Its a safe bet Izturis will be terrible at the plate. If Soriono and Lee put up those #'s, this team should score plenty. Go take a look at the 2003 and 2004 teams. They crushed the ball, but the Cubs were still in the middle of the pack in terms of runs scored. We do have a new coaching staff that doesn't care if a batter clogs the basepaths. Maybe it will make a difference, heck, maybe it won't, and this team will still avoid the walk like a bad case of herpes. Time will tell.

    Massive spending took them from a doormat in the NL, to a contender for the WS. That and David Wright, last I checked we don't have any David Wrights in Iowa or West Tenn

    What a terrible argument. Last I checked the BoSox won a WS in 2004. The Yankees have won a few in the past 10 years as well. The Mets could easily win it next season. No Big Spending does not equal championships, but it usually keeps you in contention year in and year out. Right now, as a Cubs fan, I'll certainlty take that.

    Will Soriono's contract end before Armageddon? I don't think so. So the Cubs won't be on the hook for all the $$$. So we are in good shape.

    uh somewhere in this thread theres a point i made where 122 games of JD Drew is a heck of a lot better than 162 games of Soriano in CF. You can like up all of the GM's in baseball, and if you provided them a choice of Drew for 122 games, or Soriono for 162 games, they will take Soriono for 162...all of them. Anyone think that maybe Theo Epstein wouldn't agree.... are salaries considered equal?

    If this is true regarding MacPhail, he is a downright SOB in my book. I think he just realized how crippling something like the Hampton contract can be and thanked his lucky stars that he turned down the cubs offer. I believe that caused him to be so risk adverse. That is no excuse. He is a black eye for the Cubs, even more than Sosa IMO.
