  1. Yeah, I doubt Floyd is completely benched, but I see Murton getting more and more of the time (probably, after this series we'll see a lot of Murton/Jones/Floyd until Soriano gets back).
  2. That's 5 with Tennessee and 12 overall on the season. Not bad for playing in a couple pitcher-friendly leagues. Also the fact that he appears to have figured out Tennessee (except still for the walking thing). He was hanging at just over .600 OPS for quite a while, and now he's getting close to .800 for the season. If he continues hitting this well over the next couple weeks, do people think they will start him at Iowa to start the season next year? I think he's going to Tennessee no matter what to start next season, mainly because he hasn't been at AA for too long. Yeah, that's probably true. I finally found the splits Pre All-Star Break (70 AB's): .243/.254/.386 Post All Star Break (83 AB's): .337/.360/.554

  4. After that strikeout, Jones's numbers in August: .444/.474/.694 That's pretty decent :D
  5. Yeah, but we've seen the Marquis meltdown by hitting a guy before. Weaver in the Seattle game, Pujols in the St. Louis game. I'd rather pull him then just to avoid that potential problem.
  6. I disagree he needs to work on plate discipline. It isn't his fault that umpire blew that call. I love how Marquis can't hit for us either. Pie has gotten called out on that strike low and inside time and time again though. It was one of his main problems in late June. It's not fair that the umps keep doing that, but at some point he has to adjust and start fighting those pitches off if they are going to keep calling it.
  7. I was just thinking a few minutes ago that Colorado is probably the best location for this non-power lineup. The humidor slows down the home run power of each team, but there's still a lot of space out there for slap hitters to hit and use their speed, which is what this particular lineup wants to do. I'd still rather have the power in the lineup, but Colorado is probably the best spot in the NL to have to have this type of lineup, so the lineup is not as ugly as it usually would be.
  8. He is supposed to come back either Sunday or Tuesday. Oh okay, well that's encouraging I guess. Is he available to pinch hit? I doubt it. The wrist gets sore because of how he hits, so they probably don't want him doing that until he's ready to come back.
  9. He is supposed to come back either Sunday or Tuesday.
  10. If memory serves, he wanted to extend Pierre, but Pierre wasn't interested in staying... praise the lord. I think it was more like the Cubs were willing to give him a small 1 year contract, but Pierre wanted his multi-year deal.
  11. The Mets lineup hasn't shown their superiority much this year. They've scored a total of 5 more runs then the Cubs lineup. Now the Phillies? That's a much better lineup.
  12. Gallagher threw 23 pitches last night and Eyre threw 15. Marmol hasn't pitched since Monday, so they probably wanted him to get some work in.
  13. Hah we cannot get away with that right now. No, but maybe we can do it on something like Tuesday. Aramis should be back, and Ward should be back to be able to fill in at first. That would give Lee 2 straight days off (with the off day on Monday) and could really re-charge him.
  14. That was perhaps the best at-bat I've ever seen Jacque against a left-handed pitcher. 10 pitches, fouled off a couple tough pitches, and then stayed on a pitch and had a nice single up the middle. He continues to see the ball really well lately.
  15. This is actually the 3rd time the Pirates have done this. I guess they are trying to do the same thing the Dodgers did when they had Izturis lead off for all that time? Which is of course not score very much:D
  16. Teams go through rough patches and good patches, it happens. Not to mention yesterday's game was a little bit of bad luck as well. It's pretty hard to have 17 baserunners and only get 2 runs. Tonight, the RISP numbers are good again, and those baserunners are scoring in bunches.
  17. I don't think it's all that reliable, but that is a lot more likely then suddenly having a tear without re-injuring it (aggravating it, sure. From all we've heard though, it just continued to get more sore with him playing, and there was no re-injury point). It will probably continue to be there the rest of the year, but I find it hard to believe that Ramirez will miss more than a week or two with it, and probably less than that.
  18. i bet he's at colts training camp and doesn't have internet access there. Why does Bob Sanders post then? Sanders is not practicing like usual. I don't think he's been at practice once at TC yet. I wish he'd get off the board and on to the field before the playoffs this time. :D
  19. I don't know why we need to do that now. See what the next 2-3 weeks bring first. If the Cubs fall out of the race, use the final month to do the youth movement. If the Cubs can hang in without both of them (which is possible the way the rest of the Central is going) they get Soriano back in early September and who knows what happens after that.
  20. That's an amazing stat It's actually a really flawed stat, considering a decent percentage of the time he's been up this season he's played as a defensive replacement (and defensive replacements are typically only used when teams are winning). The Cubs are 18-12 when Pie starts. BTW, that 32-16 number is now 32-17. Pie pinch-hit last night, and the Cubs lost.
  21. According to the newspaper article (and Rotoworld), option 2 is not an option. Not sure if that's not how waivers work or not. The A's do have that option, but I think the newspaper is just assuming that Oakland won't give him away. There would really be no reason for them to do that.
  22. You're trying to use last night's game as an example that Jones cannot hit? The one he went 2 for 4 with a double and a walk? OK wrong example, basically there's no reason to start him CF over Pie, Pie may not hit better but, he's the superior defensive player and probably, base runner - those facts alone are reason enough to permanently remove Jones from CF. Normally I'd at least be sympathetic to the view that the Cubs need a good defensive presence in CF. However, with Soriano and Ramirez out right now, the Cubs need every advantage in offense that they can possibly get at the moment, and right now that's Jones.
  23. This is the best suggestion IMO. Yeah, it's the best we can do. But Daryl Ward hitting Cleanup? It's not good by any means. :( He had a 926 OPS last year and a 900 OPS so far this year (.333/.456/.444 line so far this year). He would be just fine as a cleanup hitter IF he can maintain those numbers starting against right-handers for a couple weeks (I'd still sit him against left-handers). That's a big if of course. Ward is another guy that with the at-bats he has so far this year should have 3-4 home runs on the season, and he has 0. It's strange.
  24. If Aramis is on the DL, I think the Cubs would have to risk letting Ward get several starts in the OF. They would need all the offense they can get. If they put a lineup out there most days of: Theriot Patterson/Fontenot Lee Ward DeRosa Jones Murton Kendall Pitcher That might be enough to hang around for a couple weeks until Aramis and Soriano got back.
