  1. It's possible, but I doubt it. Ohio State is just so far down in the computers compared to WV that they'd have to have a pretty decent edge in both polls in order to have a shot to leapfrog, and given the skepticism towards Ohio State this year I just cannot see that many people jumping them over WV.
  2. Nope. The TD got taken away on a horrible holding call. UConn missed a field goal, and it's still 10-7. Pitt. Thanks, I guess this game is confusing everyone including me with the posts in this thread :D

  4. If both WVU and Missouri lose I'd guess Ohio State would be the No. 1 team. They'll be unanimous or close to it in the Coaches Poll and probably in the Harris Poll which are 2/3 of the BCS. As for No. 2, who knows. Do you put Georgia in even though they didn't even make the SEC title game? What about LSU and USC? I don't see how anyone with half a brain could vote Virginia Tech over LSU considering what happened when the two teams played so I would have to assume that Va Tech has no chance of making the title game, and justifiably so. The justification is that Virginia Tech and LSU are completely different teams than the ones who played a long time ago now. Tech was starting a different quarterback then they are now, and LSU's defense was playing so well back in week 2. LSU hasn't looked like that team in a couple of months now, and voters may take that into account. It may not be right, but how you're playing at the end of the year counts for a lot. Besides, history has proven that head to head doesn't mean much in selecting that second team, and 2001 is a great example of that.
  5. Vance may be right. If WVU and Missouri both lose it's going to get very messy. There is one computer ranking out there that allows you to add certain results to see what happens to the rankings. I added in 5 games from today (including WV and Missouri losing) and what happened? LSU and Va Tech jumped Ohio State and Georgia to become the number 1 and 2 teams in this computer ranking. If even half the computer rankings are like this, things could get interesting.
  6. Id bet its Georgia Possibly, but considering LSU won the SEC...they may get the nod ahead of Georgia. Yeah, but LSU really needed a more impressive performance in order to jump Georgia. People aren't really going to be wowed by the SEC title game.
  7. Are we counting rookies and September callups? if so, position player is Scott Moore? pitcher is Clay Rapada
  8. IMO, kicking an 18 yard field goal is almost always bad strategy. You either get a TD on 4th down, or you give the opponent the ball on the 1 yard line. Teams starting on the 1 yard line don't pick up a 1st down very often (and occasionally give up a safety), and so even if Missouri didn't get it they would have had a great chance of having great field position on their next drive.
  9. After a cheap personal foul gives WV a 7-0 lead, a cheap personal foul gives Pitt a field goal at the buzzer. 7-3 WV at halftime.
  10. WV was stopped for a 4th down field goal attempt, but Pitt committed a personal foul that gave WV a first down. Next play, WV runs for a TD. Pat White is very questionable to return to this game though. He cannot grab anything with his thumb at the moment.
  11. Michigan hasn't committed yet. The Capital One Bowl is down to Illinois and Michigan. If Illinois doesn't get picked by the BCS, they'll play in that bowl and Michigan will play in the Champs Sports. If Illinois does get picked, then Michigan plays in the Capital One Bowl. someone just said Michigan was in the Champ Sports bowl Not exactly-somebody asked them where Michigan would go if Illinois went to the Capital One Bowl, and they replied Champ Sports with a link. That link said that Michigan would go to the Capital One if Illinois went to the BCS and to the Champs Sports if they didn't.
  12. Pat White is down holding his thumb. It looks like it's his non-throwing thumb, but that's still a big problem for WV.
  14. I think Clemson has already made its way into the top 14 with the losses to both B.C. and Tennessee. I do think Illinois would get picked over Clemson though, although it would be a very close decision.
  15. If you read the link talking about Michigan I posted, it says the Illini will go to the Capitol One bowl if they are in the top 14 and Mizzou wins. If the bowl committee can match up FLA with the Illini its going to happen. Too good of storyline If Illinois plays Florida, it won't be in the BCS. If they go to the Capital One Bowl, that means the BCS has already said no to them. That's exactly what Derwood and I are predicting that if the favorites win tonight Illinois is going to the Capital One against Florida and not the BCS.
  16. Illinois will be getting a BCS game undeservedly, of course. nonetheless it's not a done deal yet. Keep up the hate, its great comedy. The Illini will be in the top 14 now, and I doubt they get passed over for an at large. Not going to matter because when OU beats Mizzou tonight, the Illini will be playing in the Rose, while Ohio State plays for the NC. top 14 doesn't matter, and they WOULD be an at-large. What do you mean top 14 doesnt matter? You have to be in the top 14 to get in a BCS game, and I said I doubt they would get passed over for an at large. Not really sure why you have WOULD like that. 14 teams for 10 slots. and you're making it sound like they aren't an at-large. why wouldn't your at-large get passed for another (say, Georgia or Tennesse or Hawaii or Missouri or Oklahoma or Kansas or.....) How am I making it sound like they arent an at large when I put right in my post I doubt they would get passed over for an at large? The question is why you doubt it. Illinois doesn't have that big of a draw nationally. They aren't a lock to bring a ton of fans, and they have a questionable resume. Sure, the Rose Bowl will definitely take them if they are there, but why would any other bowl pick Illinois over Arizona State? Assuming all the favorites win tonight, of course. I think Illinois needs 1 of 4 things to happen tonight to get an at-large bid. They need either Missouri, WV, Arizona State, or Hawaii to lose.
  17. Illinois will be getting a BCS game undeservedly, of course. nonetheless it's not a done deal yet. Keep up the hate, its great comedy. He's right about the undeservedly thing, and I'd love to get more Big 10 teams in. Right now though, Georgia and Hawaii get in automatically, and one of Kansas or Missouri deserves to get in, and then Arizona State is probably more deserving then Illinois. Even if you don't think Arizona State, Clemson has just as good of resume as Illinois.
  18. That end of regulation was strange. First Oregon tries a 53 yarder that was long enough but wide. Oregon State gets called for leaping, and so Oregon gets 15 yards and a first down. They use that first down to run it into the middle of the field, but then instead of downing the ball they try to do the fire drill and run everybody onto the field at the last second, and they rushed the kick and it was wide anyway.
  19. Go Salukis! Not just saying that as a U of I fan, but since I went to SIU for 2 years, I try to root for them as well. What do you expect in this game? Honestly I really dont know after seeing USC dominate SIU like they did. If Im the Salukis, I try and do the same thing to Gordon that Xavier did, but thats easier said than done. SIU needs a big game from Faulker, and SIU arena is sure to be crazy. Probably one of the best matchups Carbondale has seen in probably forever. I give IU credit for going there. Might result in a loss, but should be a good learning experience in that environment. Yeah, I especially give IU credit for going there when they already went there once (I'm pretty sure it was the year IU went to the title game) a few years ago and get destroyed. Usually one loss like that to a mid-major and schools like IU go running, but they were willing to play Southern Illinois in Carbondale again. I see this as a tight game, but IU has to start coming together as a team. They're still not on the same page, and if they continue to be that way it will be a long night with SIU's defense.
  20. Just to let you know Bruno, I just looked it up after I guessed and your walk leader against the Cubs is incorrect.
  21. Most hits: Wow. This one is easily the toughest to even come up with a good guess for. I'll say....Xavier Nady, I guess. Most HR: Adam Dunn Most walks: Lance Berkman (honorable mention to Scott Hatteberg, who apparently Zambrano feared more than anybody else in the lineup but didn't play in the final 6 games against the Cubs) Most K's: LaRoche
  22. Lou says Hes basically been hinting since last season that he wanted more speed and guys to bunt so they could manufacture runs like that. And now he is trying to get Pie to bunt more. What JeffH said. Lou hates to sac bunt, especially in the early innings. He has said so repeatedly, and the Cubs as a team were reflective of that last year. In fact, they had the fewest sacrifices in the National League. What he does want is Pie to bunt for a base hit a little more.
  23. We have 6 bench spots, we don't play Dusty ball with our pitching staff anymore. But this is pointless to talk about cause Shelton isn't a lefty with speed. Huh? Lou only said that he had to have 12 pitchers on his pitching staff about 1000 times last year. There will only be 5 bench spots. The only time we didn't have 12 pitchers is when there were injuries in the middle of the year, and it drove Lou crazy to only have 11.
  24. I'm all for patience, but how long has Pie been in the organization? It's like the Don Baylor Corey Patterson dance all over again. Other than the bunt thing, I don't see anything wrong with Lou stressing OBP to Pie. Who wouldn't want that? The problem is that it's a little late now. This could also be the reason why Pie is performing dismally in the DR league. I don't know, I think we've seen this show before. They've been stressing this to Pie for at least the past year. That's what they were working with him the entire season on. Plus, Pie played dismally in the DR league last year as well. I see no problem with what they're doing. Pie and Patterson have completely different types of swings. Pie's problem is that he cannot get around on inside pitches (which is why he was terrible in the majors, they fed him a steady diet of inside fastballs) and so shortening his swing will help with that.
  25. I doubt Prior would want to sign with Colorado, so they won't give us anything of value. That's the only reason SD will give the Cubs prospects is because it is his hometown and they expect that he'll stay and sign another contract past 2008. I'd make the deal for either one of the last two prospects, but not the first one.
