  1. The fact that they shut down Napster should be reason enough to vote against Metallica. That, and the fact that their music is tripe.
  2. As a Cards fan, I do kidna feel bad for Wood. It always sucks to watch someone's career take a downturn due to something they really have no control over. That being said, why not talk to Kerry about moving to the bullpen and maybe closing, or a set-up man/occasional closer? He's got the heat (or, at least, had it -- I haven't seem him pitch in a couple years, so I'm not sure where his velocity is at currently) to be able to step in and blow hitters away. Seems like a pretty natural fit (plus, he had success there last year, if I recall correctly), and I imagine it would be easier on his arm to throw 70-75 innings a year instead of 180+. Do you guys think Wood would be open to a permanent move to the bullpen?
  3. Making fun of the fat drunk isn't nearly as fun when the season is already over. If it's any consolation, the season's over for every NL team not named the Mets. Ain't no way the Cards, Reds, 'Stros, Dodgers, et al, are even gonna compete when it comes time for the World Series.
  4. The Cubs dancer has another video. It's here. How much time do some people have to do this stuff? My God...
  5. Don't think there isn't a day that goes by that Gibson doesn't regret it... If Gibby could have done something to save us from his brutal commentating, I think we'd all agree that humanity owes an insurmountable debt to the man.
  6. I just found it amusing.
  7. An anecdote I once heard about Gibson (he's a bit before my time... by about 30 years). I have no idea if it's true or not, but I like it: At Spring Training, a rookie was stepping into the box to face Gibson. The rookie starts digging into the box, and McCarver stops him. "Um, kid, you probably don't wanna do that," he says to the rookie. The rookie steps out of the box, KICKS THE DIRT BACK IN to replace the dirt he dug out. Gibson still drilled him.
  8. I knew getting my mom a webcam was a bad idea.
  9. I honestly don't know. When we got him, there were reports that his drop in velocity was due to injury. But he took a couple physicals and got medical clearance, so I'm not sure. I didn't really follow Mulder when he was in the AL, so I can't really say how hard he used to throw. It doesn't seem like his velocity is down so much this year as he's just not hitting his location and he's keeping the ball up. He doesn't throw hard enough to make mistakes like that, so when he does, it just gets hammered. If I'm Jocketty, I trade him for whatever I can get. He's not worth AJ Burnett-money (hell, AJ wasn't worth that kind of money, and Mulder's better), and I'd be shocked if he took any sort of discount to stay in St. Louis. Trade him for whatever you can get, insert Reyes in the rotation, and go from there. It's telling that I have more confidence in a rookie than I do in a former Cy Young winner (telling of my intelligence, perhaps, but more telling of the way Mulder is pitching). He still has time to turn it around, but I'm losing faith quickly.
  10. At the time, I thought this was a good trade, as much as I liked Haren. Now, however, it seems pretty obvious that this is was one of Jocketty's worst deals. Mulder's been a pretty huge disappointment. Of course, if he gets his stuff together and helps the Cards win the WS, then I'll change my vote. Until then, however, I don't see how anyone could say they'd rather have Mulder.
  11. Again I shall ask -- what could Pujols say to prove to you that he is innocent?
  12. Rich, what could the "Mighty Poolie" say to prove his innocence to you?
  13. Don't know if this has ever been posted here, but a site InsideSTL.com posts their Cardinal Hoosier Fan of the Week every Wednesday, and it's rather awesome. Here's this week's Be sure to check out the ones at the bottom from past weeks. The Hoosier Half Beard and Superdrunk-Passed-Out Guy are my favorites. Enjoy!
  14. 'Twasn't in a mocking way, it just reminded me of my dad. Even with the Cardinals, he's an eternal pessimist. It's funny, and that response to Carlos Lee was something he would say about anyone the Cardinals would acquire. I can't wait to be a Cubs fan have the same sunny disposition when it comes to my team. :)
  15. That made me laugh out loud. I'm sorry.
  16. As a Cardinal fan, if this is true and Pujols is using HGH, I will officially switch to being a Cub fan. Or, I'll just stop watching baseball altogether. I'm honestly not sur which would be less painful.
  17. Actually, the Cardinals gave him that towel so he'd stop chewing his hand. If you don't watch him carefully, he'll get down to the elbow before he even realizes what he's doing. And then even still, he won't stop.
  18. Izzy's problems, as far as I can tell (with my very limited baseball knowledge), seem to be totally in his head. He's falling behind batters too often, then he seems to press, and starts throwing ball after ball. This is a real problem. He's got time to get this worked out, but the problem with confidence is that it becomes a perpetual cycle -- until he starts getting outs, he won't have confidence, but he won't have confidence until he gets outs. Damn Catch-22s. If Izzy can't get his stuff together, the Cards are screwed. He's a pivotal piece of the puzzle. Without him, we're screwed.
  19. I have a strong love for the Cardinals, and I totally agree. Looking at it realisitcally, this team is clearly worse than last years team, and far worse than the '04 team, neither of which were good enough to win the World Series. I'm not giving up on them just yet, but there are major needs, and, in my opinion, too many holes to be filled. We need another power bat, we need another reliable starter (which could be Ponson or Mulder, I'm honestly not sure which of those two is better right now... and that's kinda sad, actually), and we could probably use another arm in the bullpen. Can Jocketty do it? I have faith. My biggest hope is that the Cards have to chase someone down for a playoff spot, win the spot, then enter the playoffs with some momentum. The last couple years, coasting in hasn't helped. Hopefully, having to work until the final weeks will keep them sharp. That's the only silver lining I can see right now in a very, very dark cloud.
  20. It's a bratwurst fashioned into patty form. What the point of this is, I don't know, but I've had one (not at new Busch), and they're not bad. I guess it's a bratwurst for the extremely homophobic?
  21. The first thing they need to do at new Busch is to stop playing "Day-O." Seriously, can we get rid of this, for the sake of all humanity? I hate it. I love Harry Belafonte as much as the next guy, but that's just lame.
  22. They stadium is finished, technically, but they've been listening to a lot of feedback from fans about how to better improve the stadium and the atmosphere. Plus, once Ballpark Village is complete, that will obviously be a better view than looking out over cranes and a dirt pit. Not that St. Louis is that scenic to begin with, but looking out over a construction zone isn't exactly my idea of ambiance.
  23. Seems to be a pretty good review I haven't been yet. Anybody here go? What are your thoughts? I've heard good and bad about it.
