  1. That pretty much sums it up. Purdue is a team that forces a lot of turnovers, and Illinois did a fantastic job taking care of the ball.
  2. Just curious, but did they show a different angle of that play? Everytime I saw the replay, it was from the original angle, from which it looked like it should have been Purdue's ball. That is pretty much the same angle the broadcasters had, so they didn't really have a better view of things than anyone watching the game on TV. I'm open to the idea that it may have been the right call, but from the one view they kept showing, it certainly looked like it should have been Purdue's ball. i never saw the ball hit mccamey at all. The original angle showed Johnson throw it off his leg. The only question I had was whether it then hit Johnson again before it landed out of bounds.

  4. It sure looked like it should have been Purdue's ball on that play. Also, the non-call on the over-and-back was terrible. I wasn't pleased with the officiating, but it was bad both ways. I do think they made a good call on Hummel's shot in the second half, as it looked like his toe was on the three-point line. The Boilers killed themselves with their shooting, especially from the free throw line. As a side note, Marcus Green has looked completely lost the past two games. Purdue needs him to get his head on straight, especially if Kramer is going to be out for awhile. Also, while I appreciate Bobby Riddell's contribution against Valpo, he has no business starting a conference game.
  5. Yeah, that's a bit surprising. The splitter is pretty hard on the elbow.
  6. It is possible to go to a bar and not drink. My wife is a few months pregnant with twins, but we'll still meet some friends out at a bar occasionally to watch a game. And since the DC bars are smoke-free, she isn't exposed to smoke either.
  7. Kelly Johnson is a left-handed hitter.
  8. His average dipped in 1999 due in large part to a ridiculously low BABiP.
  9. If that many teams are actually showing interest in him, it could be a good time to deal him. The more bidders, the better the return could possibly be. If the Cubs can get a decent right-handed bat to play 2B against right-handers (or get an upgrade at shortstop and make Theriot the right side of a platoon at 2B), they aren't going to lose much production there.
  10. If he could turn DeRosa into Hermida, that'd be a great trade. Could happen, depending on a few things. So now we're willing to trade DeRosa to get Hermida but not Peavy. So if we make that trade, then we end up trading DeRosa like we don't want to do, we get our RF in Hermida, but no Peavy. Whereas if we trade DeRosa in a deal for Peavy and then sign Milton Bradley whom right now is better than Hermida, aren't we looking way better?? With so many LH RF options out there in FA, I think our best bet is to sign one of them and trade for the pitcher we need. Instead of leaving our rotation as is and trading our starting 2B for a RF. Again, where did anyone say with certainty that Hendry wasn't willing to deal DeRosa in a trade for Peavy?
  11. DeRosa by month 2008: April .297/.416/.451 May .310/.364/.471 June .279/.374/.465 July .195/.317/.310 August .378/.448/.733 Sept .234/.310/.438 2007 April .267/.345/.520 May .231/.359/.385 June .337/.382/.457 July .303/.382/.355 August .289/.337/.371 Sept .309/.412/.433
  12. Rumors of arm troubles? What are you talking about, just because he was on the DL last year doesn't mean he has arm troubles. The guys has pitched over 200 innings how many years? If he had a record like Harden than i would understand but i feel an argument like this is weak. I mean if you want to go there, you can say Vitters has Wrist Troubles cause he has had a record with his wrist. Yes, you can and should mention Vitters' wrist. Yes, going on the DL means arm problems. They didn't put him there to clear up a roster spot for Josh Banks. And the fact that Peavy's had so many consecutive seasons of big innings should make you more wary, not less. I dont know, thats kind of a weak argument because you open up that statement to be applied to multiple pitchers. I mean you can say the same for CC, Big Z, Matt Cain, Santana, Dempster, etc. I dont think you can say someone has arm trouble or that the 200 inings should make you worried if they only visit the DL like once or twice. I mean Peavy could end up having surgery or on the DL or even never visiting the DL again, you dont know because he doesn't have a track record of having elbow or shoulder problems. Didn't he miss some time earlier in his career due to arm issues? I may be mistaken, but I don't believe 2008 was the first time he had some arm problems.
  13. Pie does have value, whether you choose to believe it or not. The fact that you're speaking with absolute certainty over what the Padres were asking for is what's wrong. Media reports on the proposed package varied. You have no idea what the Padres were demanding here. Because you're laying blame without all the facts.
  14. Wrong. Again, wrong. Most likely wrong. Considering the constantly changing media reports surrounding this and other trades, I have to wonder why you would put any faith in any report that said it was "inevitable."
  15. Without knowing all the details, it's ridiculous to assume that Hendry is the one that failed.
  16. I don't think you can say with absolute certainty that the Cubs passed because of DeRosa.
  17. Outside of risk of injury, Johnson would probably be better than Marquis.
  18. If they got Barmes, wouldn't it be easier to put him at short and find a second baseman? It's only speculation that the Padres could get those guys for Marquis. Colorado probably isn't sitting around waiting on Towers. Barmes could be gone by the time this Peavy stuff gets sorted out. Lots of teams are looking for SS help. That's why I said "if". Obviously, if they don't get Barmes, finding a cheap SS that won't kill your team offensively isn't an easy thing to do.
  19. If they got Barmes, wouldn't it be easier to put him at short and find a second baseman?
  20. Maddux is my favorite player of all time. But Pedro is the best pitcher in the last 20 years. Certainly when he was on the mound. Greg might have him beat in total value because of durability, I guess. Pedro has a strong argument for best pitcher ever for when he was on the mound, though. an era at 2 for 1,000 innings? Pedro is not that good. Both of them had a seven-year stretch where they were about as good as it gets. Pedro ('97-'03) 118-36, 2.20 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 11.26 K/9, 5.59 K/BB, 0.59 HR/9 Opponent's line: .198/.253/.297/.550 Maddux ('92-.98) 127-53, 2.15 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 6.91 K/9, 4.78 K/BB, 0.35 HR/9 Opponent's line: .221/.258/.297/.555
  21. I believe Morgan went on record last year saying that Santo belongs in the Hall. Yeah, I know. But it doesn't mean that I can't place the blame at his doorstep any way. Irrational hatred is the best kind! True. Although there are a lot of rational reasons to dislike Morgan already.
  22. Not a fan of his at all. Not a very good K/9, rather high H/9, and outside of 2007, he's shown a tendency to give up the longball.
  23. I believe Morgan went on record last year saying that Santo belongs in the Hall.
  24. What are you looking to get in return from the D-Backs? Just curious. Would Chad Tracy (if healthy) be of interest?
