  1. They love their pure athletes who aren't expensive. At that point it narrows it down to Wheeler, Trout, Mier and maybe Everett Williams.

  6. Yeah that's not going to happen...even if Gibson was healthy and cost the same the Athletics would take Mike Leake over him. 1-1) Washington Nationals - Stephen Strasburg, RHP - San Diego State 1-2) Seattle Mariners - Dustin Ackley, OF - North Carolina 1-3) San Diego Padres - Grant Green, SS - USC 1-4) Pittsburgh Pirates - Aaron Crow, RHP - Ft. Worth Cats 1-5) Baltimore Orioles - Alex White, RHP - North Carolina 1-6) San Francisco Giants - Tyler Matzek, LHP - Capistrano Valley HS (Mission Viejo, CA) 1-7) Atlanta Braves - Zack Wheeler, RHP - East Paulding HS (Dallas, GA) 1-8) Cincinatti Reds - Jacob Turner, RHP - Westminster Academy (St. Charles, MO) 1-9) Detroit Tigers - Matt Purke, LHP - Klein HS (Spring, TX) 1-10) Washington Nationals - Mike Minor, LHP - Vanderbilt 1-11) Colorado Rockies - Rex Brothers, LHP - Lipscomb 1-12) Royals - Jared Mitchell, OF, Louisiana State 1-13) Athletics - Kyle Gibson, RHP, Mizzou 1-14) Rangers - Shelby Miller, RHP - Brownwood HS (Brownwood, TX) No one's mentioning the Rangers in on Tate. Everyone forgets they have a purse if they want to open it. Tate might just be the guy it takes for them to do it, but they won't with Miller still on the board. Tanner Scheppers also fits well.
  7. 1-1) Washington Nationals - Stephen Strasburg, RHP - San Diego State 1-2) Seattle Mariners - Dustin Ackley, OF - North Carolina 1-3) San Diego Padres - Grant Green, SS - USC 1-4) Pittsburgh Pirates - Aaron Crow, RHP - Ft. Worth Cats 1-5) Baltimore Orioles - Alex White, RHP - North Carolina 1-6) San Francisco Giants - Tyler Matzek, LHP - Capistrano Valley HS (Mission Viejo, CA) 1-7) Atlanta Braves - Zack Wheeler, RHP - East Paulding HS (Dallas, GA) 1-8) Cincinatti Reds - Jacob Turner, RHP - Westminster Academy (St. Charles, MO) 1-9) Detroit Tigers - Matt Purke, LHP - Klein HS (Spring, TX) 1-10) Washington Nationals - Mike Minor, LHP - Vanderbilt The Nationals will continue to draft pitching, taking one who offers both promise and decent upside, as well as one who won't break the bank. That should rule out Turner and Purke if they fall. That may also rule out Tanner Scheppers. They could try and take Kyle Gibson if they think they can get him cheaply because of the injury. There are no fewer than five college pitchers who fit the billing that go here. It'll probably be a bit of an overdraft either way. Minor was viewed as a top five pick prior to this season and profiles similar to 2008's Brian Matusz.
  8. 1-1) Washington Nationals - Stephen Strasburg, RHP - San Diego State 1-2) Seattle Mariners - Dustin Ackley, OF - North Carolina 1-3) San Diego Padres - Grant Green, SS - USC 1-4) Pittsburgh Pirates - Aaron Crow, RHP - Ft. Worth Cats 1-5) Baltimore Orioles - Alex White, RHP - North Carolina 1-6) San Francisco Giants - Tyler Matzek, LHP - Capistrano Valley HS 1-7) Atlanta Braves - Zack Wheeler, RHP - East Paulding HS (Dallas, GA) 1-8) Cincinatti Reds - Jacob Turner, RHP - Westminster Academy (St. Charles, MO) With Matzek off the board, this pick becomes difficult. They like Scheppers, but whether or not Scheppers' arm is healthy is still a bit of a concern. They could go on Mike Leake, but the Reds tend to like upside in their pitchers, Leake's is limited. Ditto for Mike Minor. They could also lean towards Tate if they want to give him the cash, but that doesn't seem to likely. Jacob Turner won't be cheap of course, but he's signable in this range, and you can also turn around and slot them Purke for a similar price tag. One name that could surprise people and end up here IMO, is Borchering. Call it a hunch if you want. I think he has a 50/50 chance of landing in the back half of the top ten.
  9. 1-1) Washington Nationals - Stephen Strasburg, RHP - San Diego State 1-2) Seattle Mariners - Dustin Ackley, OF - North Carolina 1-3) San Diego Padres - Grant Green, SS - USC 1-4) Pittsburgh Pirates - Aaron Crow, RHP - Ft. Worth Cats 1-5) Baltimore Orioles - Alex White, RHP - North Carolina This is a casualty of Kyle Gibson. The Birds haven't taken a high school pitcher since Adam Loewenn, that didn't work out well. With Matusz blossoming in Hi A, a front half of the rotation with White and Matusz in three years is awfully tempting.
  10. Washington Nationals - Stephen Strasburg, RHP - San Diego State Seattle Mariners - Dustin Ackley, OF - North Carolina San Diego Padres - Grant Green, SS - USC I'm not buying Green falling out of the top ten, though in my personal mock I probably will have him still slotted to KC. Someone will pop him in the top ten. I just don't know who. San Diego's the most likely.
  11. The next pick isn't too difficult. It's the third pick that's the tough one early on.
  12. Washington Nationals - Stephen Strasburg, RHP - San Diego State
  13. Or as a freshman, in the case of Chris Dwyer. Of course another route is redshirting one year and being a redshirt sophomore.
  14. I don't think Alex Wilson stands to benefit anything by not giving the Cubs' permission to draft him again. It's not as if the Cubs significantly short-changed him last year like the Nationals seemed to have done with Aaron Crow. As for Tanner Scheppers, can you blame him for not wanting to get drafted by the Pirates again? In fact, Alex Wilson is likely going to sign for less money than what the Cubs offered him last August no matter who he's drafted by. I don't see the Cubs being all that interested in Eric Arnett. He's a borderline first round pick, but he just doesn't seem to fit the Cubs standard operating procedure. I don't think we'll be in on Chris Dwyer. He's not going to sign for less than first round money, which he isn't worth, so I suspect he'll fall out of the first few rounds. Aaron Miller wouldn't be a bad second round pick, but there's probably only a 50/50 chance he's there for us. I'll probably throw another mock together soon, and do one more this weekend and then a final one the day before the draft. If I had to guess right now, I think the Cubs will end up with one of the Kennesaw State boys.
  15. drew pomeranz should be a top ten to fifteen pick next year if he continues to develop.
  16. i was there. words can't describe how awesome that game was. wood threw about 12 innings of no hit ball. we only used three pitchers, which is pretty amazing and the ultimate anti-TLR.
  17. He's a draft eligible freshman and has a ton of leverage over a team trying to sign him. He may not sign for less than first round money.
  18. dont worry. there's no chance that idiots correct.
  19. poythress probably wont go in the first unless a stathead org takes him. i'd say right now theres a 25 percent chance he goes in the first. he really isn't a first round quality prospect. he's a DH without a well-rounded offensive game.
  20. It's plausible that Jake Turner is top five among the players in the draft, but throwing in the money considerations for him, it's a bit of a reach. He's not significantly better than any of the other two or three top high school righties, if he's better at all. He's certainly not worth the difference in the bonus.
  21. i was kidding http://www.baseballamerica.com/online/draft/mock-draft/2009/268103.html more mocks
