Because the pitch was nowhere close to being a strike? If it's a hit and run and the pitch is relatively close, you gotta swing. At least attempt to foul it off. This is why people don't like the full count hit and run. It forces your hitter to swing at borderline pitch's Doesn't have to be a full count ... just has to be 2 strikes.
