  1. my source tells me bush has a very defined role as assistant GM, in charge of destroying all of the hawaiian shirts he owns and use voice dictation software to convert all of those [expletive] handwritten notes and scouting reports to Johnny Sack, or whatever THEO names the computer system that is replacing him.
  2. yeah, i think that's kind of obvious. so it's colder and windier the first two months of the season? that applies to both teams. it's not like we play in the elements and our opponents are in some sort of neutral environment.
  3. i was actually fairly confident they would hire ryne sandberg, thought the matheny thing seemed so out of left field that he would be a favorite.
  4. 121,185!
  5. i find the alomar jr. comments to be pretty baffling. i didn't expect him to be some sort of saber savant, but considering his current employer, i assumed he would be more well-versed on their value. either he is terrible at clowning or he really is just kind of an ignoramus.
  6. lol no. houston isn't a great anything.
  7. YES if not pullovers, then sleeve trim and button/collar piping. i also have an issue with the block text "chicago". i can't quite put my finger on it, and i can't say i have any suggestions. not sure i'd want to go script since that's kind of beer-league/white sox. the "cuba" version never had the right proportions; too few letters meant that for it to have the proper horizontal fill, it would end up being ginormous.
  8. oh wait http://www3.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Ryan+Theriot+St+Louis+Cardinals+Photo+Day+zUtwDAR4gitl.jpg
  9. hey maybe we could emphasize the red a little more, since the blue is a little too dominant
  10. this could work
  11. ok ok i get it now we make our uniform all white, no pinstripes make the "c" on cap white instead of red
  12. vomit
  13. clearly, the most egregious uniform crime being committed is the alternate blue top. ITS NOT EVEN THE SAME BLUE
  14. why do i get the feeling that the next time we hear from cc will be when he tries to direct traffic on lake shore drive
  15. what's with the ITS-NOT-RACISM hysterics? racism is everywhere. what's the big deal about simply pointing out that an individual or individuals are obviously using a stereotype to guide their comments in regards to the behavior or personalities of others?
  16. I can care less about this humor. Just worried about this hinges on his family? Seriously, if you want the job bad enough your family will be fine. really?
  17. How do you feel about Ron Santo? I'm not following. Santo was more of a loveable goof as an announcer. I've heard stories that he was disliked for various reasons as a player, but that was a time when it wasn't in fashion for the media to go after celebrities and politicians. If so, there wouldn't celebrity scandal rags to keep up with them. If they did try to make a name for themselves or expose someone of power, they were eithe given hush money or dealt with as many conspiracy theorisits think that the CIA did Marilyn Monroe, or course that would pertain more to politicians than general celebs. lol what
  18. if the cubs ditch the pinstripes i'll burn my cma right here on this stage
  19. how about shorts?
  20. oh, and i love how this guy has to go back to [expletive] HEILMAN to find a criticism of a white player. i forgot that guy even soiled the pinstripes.
  21. Lazy hispanic. You can stop posting these examples as they really are not helping your argument. None of what you are posting is falling back on stereotypical criticisms of players performing well at the time. Yet others have posted quite a few examples of players like aramis who get vilified for complaints that fall back on typical stereotypes about their race. Posting the examples that you are simply shows a lack of understanding of what is being said instead of refuting the argument. I doubt that Kaplan or any other major figure in the Chicago media is overtly racist. However, they do make many characterizations about certain players that very much fall into stereotypes. Once again the problem is that many of the complaints about Aramis have been justified or at least amplified by actual games. Not running out basehits....loafing on balls he thought were home runs....not hustling...poor decision making...etc.... I will agree with you that I think in regards to Aramis, his flat affect appearance sometimes doesn't do him justice. But the criticism is not limited to Kaplan and it is hardly race based. I think if he were white and did the same thing, he would be jumped on just the same. For a good example just look at Jay Cutler. That guy has taken a ton of criticism about his will to win, laziness, wimpiness etc. I think you are stretching to call it a race problem. dude STOP. aramis ramirez is not lazy. he's the single greatest contributor to the cubs offense over the last half-decade and beyond. he made great strides in improving his defense and conditioning when he got here, which he has been lauded for by non-meatheads on many many occasions. it is absolutely, positively, [expletive] stupid to ask your most valuable player to run out routine fly balls when he has experienced significant leg-related injuries. it's not because he's lazy, it's because he's smart. anyone who thinks the complaints of fat, balding, white tribune employees concerning aramis ramirez are at all valid are just as mentally void as they are. and really, your example of the flip side is the criticism of jay cutler? the media came to the defense of jay cutler, it was players and fans that burned him at the stake. and good for them. i'm always glad when someone outs themselves as a total moron. it's always good to hear a couch-bound type-2 diabetic accusing a type-1 diabetic of laziness and wimpiness.
  22. well what, were we supposed to all come here and agree with each other?
  23. I can't believe you are adding fuel to this ridiculous line of attack. I know it is popular to attack Kaplan and call him racist, but it is pathetic that just because he calls out certain members of the club he is all of the sudden racist. Have you looked at the 40 man roster lately to see how many caucasians were on the roster? And on the big league team, they are definitely not in the majority. Out of the white guys on the roster, point out the ones that you believe are lazy or appear to have a poor work ethic? Wells? (maybe) As for an answer to your question, Hundley's work ethic was called into severe question. Farnsworth was another guy that took a lot of heat for partying too much and not being prepared for games. Kaplan piled on Prior quite a bit for being a wimp and lazy. More recently, Wells was picked on in the media for having a poor work ethic. But I guess that doesn't forward your story line. I'm pretty sure that Kaplan heaped praise on Lee during his period with the Cubs and I remember the night when Soriano was signed, how ecstatic he was the Cubs signed him. I think it is sad that he can't be free to criticism players without people questioning whether he is a racist or not. wtf is a caucasian he's free to criticize whomever he wants. but when he does, he should attempt to use evidence stronger than "he's a dog", or "he's lazy", especially when referring to the top producers on the team. being "ecstatic" does not absolve him from his vile proclamations about the character and quality of non-white players on the cubs, particularly soriano and ramirez. when someone says "i'd rather have a team of nine ryan theriots than nine aramis ramirez's", then that's about all the evidence i need to know that you're either a) ryan theriot's mom or b) a buffoon whose inner stereotypes cannot be suppressed.
  24. Hell, the stereotype of the lovable fat baseball player is practically as old as the game itself. which, for a long time, was just white guys. to try to deny that racism hasn't tainted cubs fandom is really putting the blinders on. there has been repeated statements by black players on and off the cubs about the things said to them from the stands and in correspondence. non-white players are routinely criticized for some perceived lack of work ethic or effort (despite being the most valuable players on our team). the embarrassing homemade fukudome "land of the rising sun" inspired t-shirts and signs, managing to invoke almost every conceivable asian stereotype imaginable. the ronnie woo woo minstrel show. the list goes on and on and on, unfortunately. just because one can list a total of five black guys that are respected and carry a good reputation for their time as a cub, don't think for a second that they never had to grin a bear it through some trying moments from a fan base that can turn ugly in the worst way if you lack an obvious european heritage.
  25. I'm sure you heard Theo Epstein in his introductory press conference, talking about all the silly intangible BS clubhouse cliches that you and others here love to mock. i think you may have been reading into whatever comments you're referencing. the 'cubs way' is about a winning mindset and playing the game with intelligence and discipline. kind of like boston, home of such intangible greats and clubhouse anti-cancers like manny ramirez, jd drew, and john lackey.
