  1. Most of us that are complaining about Wood throwing in the bullpen last year, support this team year in and year out, and for some of us (most of us?), Wood throwing in the bullpen in meaningless games was a punch in the face. The great thing about Baseball is anything can happen and a lot of the times does the Cubs weren't flat lining last year when Wood was in the bullpen they were still kicking on Life Support. Remember Wood more than likely would have only miss a start of two in April had he not a host of unforseen issues not related to his surgery. I'll trade two Wood starts in April for a lights out Wood out of the pen when we where still in the race anyday. But Wood missed more than 2 starts. He'll have missed nearly 2 months by the time we're done. If he'd been ready by Sping Training, he might have missed a start because of Oscar's death, but instead it delayed recovery from a surgery that should have happened much earlier. It's arguable whether we were flatlining, especially since we ended up nowhere near in contention. If we were within a game or two of being in the playoffs, I might agree, but we weren't. It was a mistake.
  2. I think it will take Wood and Prior to come back, to pitch well, and to still be losing before they'd fire Dusty, sadly.
  3. benches breaking as Glendon sat his butt down upon it.
  4. Does the mathematical equasion take into account we are the Chicago Cubs? You know as well as I that mathamatics are worthless with this team. If we went by mathamatics we would've went to the WS in 1984 and 2003.... Don't we make enough outs as it is? Why would you want to give up more? For free?
  5. No, sac bunting is wrong. Batting Neifi in the 2 hole is wrong. Letting Murton swing away is not wrong. It might not always work, because that's baseball. And a sac bunt might occasionally work, because that's baseball. But the odds are against you and it's absolutely foolish to keep sac bunting the way Dusty does. just curious. what is the percentage breakdown? how much of a better chance of a run is there, if you don't bunt? There's a great link for this that was posted in one of the game threads the other day....I hope someone has it...cuz I'm too lazy to find it. :P
  6. Yeah that's probably the reason, rather than the 4th worst team OBP in the major leagues. I see Dusty fault because we can't get on base. When does the fault land on the players? You mean the players that Dusty requested?
  7. Did he? That's fantastic. Well Giles is a 3 hitter and Cedeno isn't. Big differnce there. lol...so dusty is either dumb for: 1) Batting Cedeno 3rd or 2) sacrificing with his #3 batter Take your pick. who do you bat 3rd? Walker been in a slump for 10 days... Murton, Ramirez, Barrett...those 3 would've been acceptable choices. Cedeno Pierre Murton Ramirez Barrett Mabry Hairston Perez Pitcher

  9. Did he? That's fantastic. That is pretty funny stuff. I don't think it will happen, but I'd still like to see Brenly take over for Dusty.
  10. 1. Dusty Baker 2. Don Baylor 3. Buddy Bell Bruce Kimm
  11. Sacrifices with the number 3 hitter rule.
  12. Not obvious enough...I missed it at first.... Me neither. I thought he was at first, but then he seemed serious. But I thought about cheapseats and I thought there was no way he could be serious. And then I flip flopped to him being serious.  Don't think, it can only hurt the team. But coach, I thought we were supposed to have an aggressive approach!
  13. Not obvious enough...I missed it at first.... I had to close my office door b/c I was laughing so hard. I was telling my cubemate at work what a moron I was arguing with! :D

  15. But power hitters like Mabry tend to strike out frequently. Adam Dunn strikes out a lot, too, but his walks and homeruns more than make up for the whiffs. 17. Oh man! If Williams is hurt, that means Neifi will suck.... ...oh wait...
  18. Yeah, I think Wood will bump regardless of how this start goes.
  19. I'd like to have Kerry pitch with a better lineup....
