    do you really think this could have a negative effect, though? I don't see it. I think it just feeds the irrational and unhealthy fan attention to the situation. The guy has a long way to go before he'll be able to help the team. Yet with the huge contract, unjustified promotion already this year, and a potential call-up, fans are going to be expecting him to start next year in Wrigley and be good. We've already seen how little patience people have with other young players, there's no need to throw-in the added burden of expectations that a September call-up would bring. but no negative effect on Jeff's development or roster status/clock? That's what I think of when I hear a prospect is "rushed." Maybe it won't...but why take the chance? I just don't see what the benefit is to bringing him up. All risk and no reward from my point of view.

    They said during what little of the game there was last night that he was supposed to return last night as his bereavement leave was over. However he has some other seriously ill family member and thus needs more time. Hence the transfer to the restricted list. As for what exactly that means and how that effects the roster...someone else will have to answer that.

    The rain coming from the south doesn't worry me. That storm coming across Iowa is gonna nail Wrigley in a few hours though. It does look like it's moving quickly though, so hopefully if it hits in the middle of the game, they can wait it out and finish.

    I am unable to choose, as each of these is extremely bothersome.

    This has no effect on options. He's already on the 40-man roster (major league contract) and the option for this year was burned when he was sent down. Once the option is used for the year he can be called up and sent back down an unlimited umber of times, and it still counts as one option. Well anybody on the 40 man can be called up in September and I don't think that affects options IIRC.

    i am trying really hard to forget that commercial because i actually like dane cook sorry to hear that. i take it you don't like dane cook then? My friends hate him. But I like him. He's crazy. As a comedian though, he should be funny, which he's not.

    I suspect that Reyes is somewhere between "one bad pitch" and "terrible". I mean it wasn't like we slugged him around.

    Rogers' 20-20 hindsight But that article also admits that tons of teams are doing this now...if the Cubs didn't, someone else was going to, and I guarantee the crying from the media about Zambrano leaving and the crap that the Cubs would have had replacing him would be a HUGE amount more than the crying about this deal.

    I don't understand this line of thinking, but I'm reading it quite a bit about yesterdays game. The thought is that Reyes threw one bad pitch that ended up costing them the game...the grand slam pitch to Ward. But a run had already scored that inning, and the bases were loaded thanks to some walks and hits. Doesn't that inherently mean that more than one "bad pitch" was thrown?
