  1. I saw kerry in person tonight and he looked outstanding. seemed extremely focused and was really popping the catchers mit, seemed to have command of all his pitches as well. the one single against him wasn't hit too soundly and sort of blooped over the SS. He looked great.
  2. What a stupid trade for Milwaukee. It's almost as if they don't know how to trade FOR talent, hmm.
  3. He's on the front of a fiver
  4. I think it's unfair to say that anyone predicted this level of success, but I did think Lilly was a great signing at the time. We haven't had a decent LH pitcher since...uh... And just think, we also have one pitch Rich and Marshall. When it rains it pours I guess.
  5. So about that SLG% below 425 thing... It's clear diamond dude has no idea as to what he's talking about and hates Murt cuz he's white. Remeber his silly idea that the only reason people like him is beecause he's white and has red hair. No, I hate that people over inflate his value because appearance is something they're comfortable with.
  6. Yea, I really hope that a Cub comes up and fails so I prove a bunch of people on a message board wrong. I mean, that's not being sarcastic or anything.
  7. I could say the most inane crap ever about Jason Marquis or some other random player, and no one will care. I say one sentence about Murton the Savior and the entire thread dissolves into mud slinging and name calling. I really hope he's recalled so he can hit .260/.310/.400, then maybe everyone will shut up about him.
  8. 140 AB's does not make a season, arguably. It was one time. You tell me if it was a fluke or not. And you're judging him based on 119 bad at-bats this season. You're being really, really oblivious (obtuse? are you calling me obtuse, Dufresne?). I'm basing my rational on his entire career, minors included, not just 2007. SS Ryan was, however, basing his on one season.
  9. 140 AB's does not make a season, arguably. It was one time. You tell me if it was a fluke or not.
  10. 1) Because he plays for the Cubs and their parade of marginal OF's 2) I'd bet everything I own that Murton's career stats end up more similar to Ryan Church than Bobby Abreu. I don't think anyone called you clueless, but your posts are mostly full of words strung together nonsensensically the way I'd expect anyone who give little thought to what they say would look like. And I will bet everything I own that you haven't bothered to read any post previouse to your first post in this thread. What do you want, an apology for not being an english major? And yes, I do read threads I post in. I have as few posts as I do because I only post when I feel I want to, even if my opinion is not as well-thought out or phrased as well as others. I feel passionately about it, so I post. Maybe I should post in every thread with 'lmfao' or something, then I'll get more respect? How'd you like it if I called you nonsensical, or clueless? I'd rather be bad with words than knee-jerk insulting.
  11. 1) Because he plays for the Cubs and their parade of marginal OF's. Also, don't put words in my mouth, I'm not hoping anything sticks. It is my opinion that Murton blows, sorry, I don't need anyone else to agree with me for my opinion to stay the same. Yar, she blows matey. 2) I'd bet everything I own that Murton's career stats end up more similar to Ryan Church than Bobby Abreu.
  12. Nothing I said had anything to do with if Murton was a perceived upgrade in RF or not. You could put a trash can out there and it'd even catch a few fly balls and take a few walks. The point is, is that Murton has no place on this team, or arguably any team, assuming we are talking about him playing a starting RF. His skills are not sufficient for a position that historically demands offense. If he was a 4th OF for us, which he will end up being for someone anyway, I'd be fine with that. We'd be better served to ship him off for relief help or something though. People just love him because he's white, red-haired, seems to be a "good guy", says all the PC things, fulfills your fantasies of a Chicago A's or Chicago Blue Jays team, and generally is just a pet project of 90% of this board. All I have to do is say Murton sucks and I'm called clueless, that says it all to me. No other player on this stupid franchise generates more personal attacks than Murton. It's not even close. Now THATS clueless. It also should be noted that the 7th most comparable player ever to Murton is freakin' Ryan Church. Also, since low A ball, he has never posted a SLG% over .425. And this is a corner OF we're talking about. Just sayin.
  13. Exactly. These are the same people that will have a mental meltdown if we even TALK about trading some marginal prospect like Blevins. Luckily we have an example something like trading Blevins, when we traded...Blevins. Link to meltdowns plz. That's why I gave him as an example. Get it? Example? I'm not going to link you to a thread you can easily find yourself. But there's nothing to hide, go read it, there's *plenty* of people griping about losing our precious Blevins.
  14. Better. Sarcasm aside, I just dont *get* the pro Murton crowd. I just don't get it. Hey, he posts an OBP 30 points higher than his AVG, which no other Cub does, and its what Billy Beane said is great, so bla bla lets make obnoxious sigs and pictures about how Murton is getting hosed and hasn't gotten a chance ever but lets forget the 700+ AB's he's had bla bla bla. 564 AB's 2006 - OPS+ 103 2007 - OPS+ 74 He's a fourth OF.
  15. Exactly. These are the same people that will have a mental meltdown if we even TALK about trading some marginal prospect like Blevins.
  16. Murton is the posterchild for people that sit at their computers and research stats all day about the Cubs. He's absolutely no different than marginal dime a dozen corner outfielders on other teams. No speed, no huge threat of power, no outstanding defense. Just mediocrity. Calling me clueless is a personal attack, jersey, btw.
  17. I think this thread has been needed to be made for oh, about two years now. I'm SICK of every thread turning into some half assed discussion on why Murton is the best thing ever. Seriously, you have no idea just how overrated he is in the Cubs community. He's a damn 4th OF at best!
  18. Once again a thread has devolved into another love fest for freakin Murton. Does it ever end? And now we're blaming Soriano not moving to RF for Murton sucking? Come on.
  19. I will say I have absolutely no statistical evidence to back it up: but I'm incredibly fearful of moving Soriano from either 1) LF or 2) batting 1st.
  20. At this point, I would rather have Church, Pagan, DeRosa, or Floyd in RF than Murton. Why is the conversation about Murton. He's the 5th or 6th OF on the organization depth chart depending on where you place Pie. He's had how many AB's now? And I don't want to hear the complaints about playing time, you EARN more PT, it isnt just handed to you. See Pagan, Theriot, Fontenot, Marmol, etc. I would package Murton and Hill/Marshall in some sort of combination for a REAL upgrade for C/SS/RF in about .0001 of a second. I'm not sure if Church falls into this category, but still, I really would like to see Murton be traded at a decent point in value, he's not going to see serious PT here.
  21. Wasn't Hendry also chasing Barrett for a while before he ended up getting him? Seems like Hendry gets tunnel vision sometimes. With Barrett it worked...with Conine..... :? And Kendall
