  1. I don't know how to judge that. Pitching results in the Cactus League are pretty pointless.
  2. It's not even close to cheating the system. What about all the people with multiple fantasty teams? Are they cheaters if they win one league? Do you pick one stock and stick with it win or lose? Do you pick one spouse to......, nevermind that one. If you want to fill out one, go ahead. If you want to enter 10 pools and use the same sheet, go ahead. But don't go around judging other people who are smart enough to hedge their bets.
  3. 5-5 bottom 4 2 outs (vladdy just skied out)
  4. Nixon isn't good, and he was a platoon guy anyway. Mueller barely gets by at third. We were told every WS winner won with solid D, and Boston did not have solid D, or anything close to it. The difference between the Cubs with Walker on D and the Cubs without Walker on D isn't a trip to the WS or not. It's just a bogus cliche that defense wins championships in baseball. It's not true. Pitching wins. Defense is far down the line on contributions, well after offense.
  5. Did you do that with Maddux's first 20 innings? How about Randy Johnson? It's foolish to base your judgements on the first few innings you see of a pitcher. Disregarding minor league performance is just as foolish. He's no Koufax. He might never be a regular starter. He could be a nice middle of the rotation guy though, and so far I've been mildly impressed with him. I would have liked to see more, but you can't always get what you want. So, instead of constantly ragging on a guy with limited experience and repeating the same false line about his pitches, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. With guys like Rusch in front of him, there's no reason to pretend he's got no business here.
  6. Boston sucked on defense. It is interesting, though, that the Red Sox acquired Dave Roberts and Doug Mientkiewicz to help them with speed and defense down the stretch. Help yes, but they didn't win the WS with great defense. They went from brutal to just bad.
  7. OK Greenberg. If you really take pride in picking these games, good for you. It's luck. If you win you win. There's nothing real about it except for cash.
  8. Win the pool. I don't know a single person who uses the same picks for every pool they enter. I think its more real if I only make one pool. Use the same picks throughout. What is more real? I rarely enter more than one pool. If I did, I'd pick new ones the next time. I don't even remember half the picks I made in the only one I did. You don't win this stuff by "knowing" college basketball.
  9. I'm still waiting for his talent to shine. I mean basically he hasn't shown anything but a above average to great curve ball. I know he's only got 20 innings under his belt in the bigs, but I can't see how in the world you are going to be an effective starter with 1 pitch. He blew Vlad away with two FB's up in the zone. But if we keep saying he has 1 pitch then it will be true eventually.
  10. and with rusch, williams, maddux and hill in the rotation, you need someone that can hit the freaking ball. damn it, hill...4-2. Defense and pitching wins. Pitching wins, offense helps, and defense contributes a little. The Cubs have shady pitching, and desperately need all the offense they can get.
  11. Win the pool. I don't know a single person who uses the same picks for every pool they enter.
  12. No one has ever said Walker can't hit, but his fielding is very suspect espically with the bad leg. Don't you view him as an more of a American League guy? His leg is fine. Regardless you have to agree his a bad defender... No I don't. I agree he leaves something to be desired, but I don't believe he is bad. He does not lose games with his glove (anymore than most others that is).
  13. Presumably, that source would okay the unmasking to Prior. If not, then that could really hurt his ability to get more sources.

  15. Ronny the DH goes to a full count and drives in a run
  16. In all fairness, those ABs don't really tell you anything. But it would be stupid nonetheless.
  17. extra bases for Walker, Ramirez scores.
  18. It all comes down to how you define innings eater then. A guy who gives you 32 starts, 215 innings and a 4.50 ERA year after year definitely has value, and part of that is in "saving a bullpen" by routinely pitching into the 7th. But all too often people give the innings eater qualification to just about any starter who doesn't get hurt a lot. But just because a guy is healthy enough to go out there when called upon doesn't necessarily mean he's got much value or saving your bullpen.
  19. And really, Zambrano and Maddux are the only ones you'd want to give the rest to. Hopefully Williams or Rusch will get their rest later, when a better pitcher takes their job. And if Prior or Wood can pitch at some point in mid-April, you can build more rest in for Zambrano.
