  1. Agreed! I can't really remember a SS or 2nd basemen that has made so many poor choice decisions as Cedeno has. I hope people aren't talking about the throw home. That was the right move, he had Burrell by several steps, the throw was just not a good one.
  2. Lilly has never thrown 200 innings, and has only had 30 or more starts twice. He's a sub 100 ERA+ guy, who had an 80 last year. He might be worth taking a flyer on, but he's no better than half the prospects the Cubs could throw out there.
  3. If a player can be traded while on the DL why can't he be waived? you can not end a players career on the dl. which waiving is theoretically doing...even though he can be picked up. actually, you can do it but you will have to pay a huge settlement to the player. it's easier to wait and do it when they are activated. ?????? You have to pay a waived player his full salary anyway, why would you have to pay him even more just because he was on the DL?
  4. Benson had head case warnings long before that weird breakdown after the draft. I hate the pick at the time, but I hope they can salvage something out of it.
  5. The area itself is conducive to making this conference better. If kids want to play where their families can see them most of the time they can stay here in the untapped East. We are now starting to get those Virginia kids that Tech and Virginia once had a lock on and have the talent rich Florida. Rutgers has just as much or more history as a lot of the Big Ten teams and both they and UConn went to a bowl game last year. NJ has a huge talent base and if you have read the rivals.com at all Rutgers is now in with many Jersey kids if not most. I admit you're stadiums are much bigger, Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State than ours but in time your going to see something special out of this conference. People also thought the BE was crazy for taking a small school with no history called VTech too and look at them now. Untapped east coast market? Rutgers has as much history as a lot of Big Ten teams? There isn't much talent out here. Dilution from others sports is huge. The east hasn't competed in football for a very long time for a very good reason. Outside of PA, there is nothing to contend with the southeast, midwest or west coast.
  6. One near physical confrontation is kind of alarming, but you could dismiss it given the circumstances. This 2nd one is a huge red flag.
  7. I didn't even know OF was an option. Are the Cubs thinking of moving him?
  8. Are you seriously saying Dusty is racist? That is the silliest thing I've ever read on NSBB. Yes, I'm seriously saying it, and Dusty has only supported that notion with his words and actions.
  9. The Tigers are not a patient team. Neifi's over aggressive approach won't stand-out up there. His lack of talent will. But that team's fortunes will ride on the arms.
  10. I dunno if Dusty would take a gig north of the border. The seem to have difficulty attracting "high profile" managers there. Moreover, I can't see Riccardi hiring him. I think Baker is going to have a much more limited supply of offers than many may believe. Remember, it was only the Cubs who were after him last time. San Fran wanted him gone. The Mets were rumored but denied flatly any real interest, and after Valentine schooled him in the playoffs, they would have taken a ton of heat for that hiring (NY media thinks very little of Dusty Baker). Hendry bid against himself for Baker's service, sort of like he did with Alfonseca, Rusch and Perez.
  11. i think a healthy izturis with 7 solid bats wouldn't hurt as much as with less than that amount of solid bats, but would be far from good. izturis is tolerable if the rest of the lineup is good, that much is true. Yes, I think an otherwise solid lineup can hide such a bad hitter. But part of the problem with Izturis is his presence, and cost, will probably mean fewer improvements elsewhere. And the Cubs are very far away from having 7 solid bats.
  12. I don't really understand why that would make any Cubs fan happy. If they won every game from here on out I'd be happy. If they had a complete overhaul of the organization I'd be happy. But I can't understand being happy with the team finishing within 5 games of .500. because of how the season is went...lol. thats the only reason it would make me happy. I still don't see why that would make somebody happy. If it was April 1 and somebody said the Cubs are going to finish 5 under .500, would that make you happy? If the team was 10 over .500 now but finished 5 under, would that make you happy? I don't see why a late surge would make anybody happy when the results are still pathetic.
  13. Other than the comment about heat not having as much of an effect on black players, what else did he say? I just don't remember any other comments (though there may have been others). And let's not compare a death threat using a racial slur with a comment about some races not being as effected by heat as other races. His comment was associated with race, but he didn't indicate that he thought less of other races because they were effected more by hot weather. Not even the same ballpark, really. He absolutely did indicate he thought less of other races. He's a racist who wants more fast black players. Matt Murton is running circles around the darker skinned Angel Pagan, but Pagan still takes away significant playing time from the guy. Todd Walker was as good a 2B as Jacque Jones is a RF and Juan Pierre was as CF, but Jones and Pierre's jobs were never threatened by lesser players while Walker was constantly forced to sit. I think there's plenty of evidence to suggest Baker has allowed race to affect his decisions.
  14. With Izturis and his injury problems going on I highly doubt Hendry would move Bynum. I meant during the offseason (see above). He is not signed for next year and is not arbitration eligible. The Cubs control him and could easily just refuse to offer him a deal. But I doubt they do, they'll bring him back for no good reason at all.
  15. The Rusch era is not remembered fondly in Mets land. I would be somewhat shocked if they dipped back into that pile of dung for another go at it. Despite all the turnover, there are still plenty of front office types who were around to watch Rusch last time in Queens. He actually had a decent season his first full year, but quickly reverted to form in the following season. Nobody misses him (except for maybe all the donut shops and bra stores in Manhattan.........).
  16. And Izturis is very similarly OBP challenged. It's not ridiculous, it's quite accurate. Yes but that's not all of my arguement. Please respond to the rest. The only reason Izturis hasn't hurt the Cubs as much as Neifi yet is because he hasn't played as much. Give him 700 plate appearances next season and he'll do more damage, and cost twice as much.
  17. And Izturis is very similarly OBP challenged. It's not ridiculous, it's quite accurate.
  18. Just because you say that doens't means it's true.
  19. That's the first thing I thought of. I guess he doesn't figure Verlander and Miner will read the Chicago papers and see how little he thinks of rookie pitchers. He probably doesn't think they are young because no successful and respected team could ever rely on young pitching.
  20. I think it's the standard thing to do after a player is traded to hear a few quotes from them about their previous team. There needs to be a cut off point. Are they going to get a comment from the next celebrity bat kid after he gets grounded and can't make the game? You also have to remember that Neifi's new team was playing against Chicago and the White Sox writer asked him these questions. It's not like the Tribune sent Fred Mitchell to an Aneheim/Oakland game to get comments from a former Cub.
  21. He could also be on his way to an average OBP of .330. What he had in '04 and in '05 until he got injured. I'll take the wait and see approach, and judge him at the end of '07. Or atleast until mid '07 before I start jumping on his case calling him "young neifi". It's ridiculous. It would be ridiculous to calling Chase Utley a young Neifi. It's not ridiculous to call Cesar Izturis a young Neifi.
  22. The Jones and Benson rivalry really seems to be heating up a bit, at least in terms of verbal sparring in the media.
  23. I don't really understand why that would make any Cubs fan happy. If they won every game from here on out I'd be happy. If they had a complete overhaul of the organization I'd be happy. But I can't understand being happy with the team finishing within 5 games of .500.
  24. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/cs-060821soxbits,1,6820654.story?coll=cs-home-headlines "When you go with three rookies [in the rotation], it's tough," Perez said in the Tigers' clubhouse after arriving Monday from Chicago. "Like the other day (Aug. 15) we were facing Roger Clemens with [Juan] Mateo from Double A. [Mateo] pitched great that day. I don't take anything away from him, but the respect wasn't the same. "Only one out of five starters, [Carlos] Zambrano, was healthy the whole year. They traded Maddux and a lot of good players in the organization. They have good guys, a good manager and a good general manager. But the thing was wrong this year." Yeah, the other day when Clemens faced Mateo, that really sucked for this team. I mean, it's impossible to win with such a matchup. Okay, so they did win, but still, it wasn't a respected win, so it doesn't count the same in the standings. The Cubs need more respected veteran wins, not disrespectful rookie wins. Maybe the thing that was wrong was that you were playing on the team Neifi.
  25. During the season. There is no DL during the offseason. Correct?
