  1. Holy BeerGut Maddux. Lay off the bacon old man.
  2. I pray to all that is holy that Cleveland overtakes the Sox.
  3. Walker = 2 fielders choices thus far and it's only the 4th inning.
  4. Lawton = not good. He needs to be gone after this season. I wonder if Murton can lead off.
  5. We've been swinging at everything the entire season. Agreed
  6. This is what our conversation was about. You questioned Lee swinging at 3-0 and I called you on that. I have no doubt that the Cubs are fundamentally poor but you can't look at Lee's AB there and say that was an example. Look back a couple pages and you'll see I did the same for the Neifi at bat as well as the Cedeno at bat. My point on Lee was the same as those posts. I'm not saying the Lee isn't the best offensive player on the team. Excellent hitters are expected to make outs 70% of the time. Given that, if a struggling pitcher MUST make 1 pitch to keep you off base, I say you take your chances, especially since you're guaranteed to get another chance even if the pitcher succeeds. Especially considering that Vargas is wild today.
  7. Nomar has 8 rbi's and 7 errors this year.
  8. Yes he should have been. That's a no-brainer. Agreed. When you have your best hitter up there with no protection and about to get a fat pitch, swing away. Better to be 4-3 with 1 out bases empty then 4-0 bases loaded. If the pitcher is guaranteed to throw a fat pitch, I agree. The fact is, Vargas was wild and there is no guarantee. If you take 3-0, you're guaranteed to get another swing if you so choose. If you swing 3-0, you don't have that luxury and you lessen the pressure on the pitcher. Lee should have taken 3-0 and forced the pitcher to make a pitch. If he throws a strike, you get another swing. Why was Neifi swinging 3-0 after Burnitz walked? Why did Cedeno swing on the first pitch after that? It's poor organizational plate discipline. So you are assuming here that Lee would have swung at anything. He swung at a change down the middle and was early. Lee should have swung at the ball without any doubt and any baseball player would tell you the same thing. It is actually SMART baseball I completely disagree and you're using just the Lee at bat to prove your point. My point is that the entire team has a poor approach at the plate. I completely agree that Lee is the best hitter on the team. I question his approach in that situation. Base runners and on base percentage win ballgames. Making a struggling starter throw more pitches to get to the bullpen, wins ballgames. If Lee takes there, he's guaranteed to see another pitch in a hitters count.

  10. Yes he should have been. That's a no-brainer. I couldn't disagree more.
  11. 3-0 to Lee and he's swinging. I understand he's your best hitter, and the AB ended in a walk anyway, but there's no way he should have been swinging in my book.
  12. Nomar has lost whatever he had. He should not be on this team next year, regardless of how nice he is.
  13. Right there is EXACTLY why this team struggles to score runs. Vargas walks Burnitz, then goes 3-0 to Neifi. Conventional wisdom should tell Neifi to take until he throws a strike. In this case it worked out for Neifi, he swung 3-0 and got a hit, but that is irrelevant. He should have taken right there and made the pitcher earn the at bat. After Neifi gets on, Vargas is still wild, yet Cedeno swings at the first pitch instead of making the pitcher work and throw strikes, Perez and Cedeno allow him to get off the hook as easily as possible. Those two at bats briefly but accurately summarize why this team struggles to score runs. It's a problem of organizational approach.
  14. I'm not watching or listening...is Dempster up?
  15. A couple two tree dozen insurance runs off fatty would be nice.
