  1. Dodged a big one there. Nice job, Jason. I guess.
  2. Well, Z doesn't do it often. Demp is great. Lilly, Harden and Marquis not so good. So yeah.
  3. Atlanta tv just repeated the "good-hitting pitcher" myth.
  4. So, this is Lou's attempt at, what, pysching out Kosuke into thinking he's a 2 hitter right now? :-k
  5. So you think broadcasters and writers overinflate a stat that is simple but inaccurate so that casual fans will watch the game? Not buying it. And if that is what they are doing, shame on them for being lazy.
  6. Well, if that's true, then why do we still hear broadcasters touting the W-L record as a measure of the value of a starting pitcher? Why is it used as a stat in fantasy leagues?
  7. Springer finished off the bottom of the 5th. Going to 6th, still 4-3 Marlins.
  8. Cards radio net was saying the game was probably going to be called. But now the tarp is off the field and they appear to be getting the field ready. EDIT: KTRS now says it's game on at 9:30.
  9. Yes, and his several straight minutes of silence when the Sox are losing counts too.
  10. I'll take it. Cards-Fish still in rain delay. Radar still looks like pretty hard rain for awhile. Just shut it down, umps!
  11. And the Juan Cruz "high hat."
  12. With Pat Foley back! Wish we had Rick Jeanerette though. Setting nostalgia aside, I wish we had Jim Hughson. But I'm definitely excited to have Foley back.
  13. Man, I don't mean to attack you, but this is the second thread where I've seen comments reflecting this attitude. It seems like you think everything is predetermined and the players are just out there going through the motions because whatever is going to happen is going to happen. Doesn't seem like a very fun thing to be a fan of. Specifically, I don't think "clutch" is nonsense. There are situations in baseball that I think we can describe as more important or more stressful than others. Players that excel in those situations are more valuable than those who don't. Otherwise, I agree with your peeves. Especially W-L for pitchers. There is no more ridiculous stat, and I can't believe broadcasters, writers, and even agents, scouts and GMs put so much stock in it.
  14. ^Unfortunately, the 20 WGN games this season will only be shown on WGN in the Chicago market, not on the Superstation. So those of us in St. Louis and everywhere else are out of luck. So here with regular cable we'll get the six St. Louis games and probably 3-4 national games. Not good enough. Center Ice in HD is totally worth the $160 to me this year. Also, late last year Directv started offering both feeds (home and away) when possible. So we should get the hometown call most nights. Looking forward to the release of the CI schedule to confirm.
  15. I'll be happy to help you with that as I can.
  16. Don't know the rules, strategy, players, etc. Is it because you were never interested in learning? Not being a jerk, just asking. Pretty much, wsith the Blackhawks being relevant I have taken some effort to learn about the stars but nothing real deep, just basic stuff. Gotcha. I'll grant you that as someone who was put in skates when I was three, I forget that the game can be mysterious to folks. I hope the Hawks live up to their potential this year and keep your interest.

  18. Cubs should cruise tonight. Harden will bounce back with the extra days of rest and get back to striking out 10 every game.
  19. Single game tickets went on sale yesterday. Several of the obvious sellers (Detroit, Crosby, day after xmas) only have SRO left. Apparently the STH base is up almost 400 percent and the Hawks are expecting sellouts for most games. I don't mean to be crass, but a lot of people said all this was possible once the old man died. He died, and here we are less than a year later.
  20. To China? Is that an upgrade?
  21. I know there is no way I'll get a ticket, but I'll be down in Wrigleyville, no doubt.
  22. ^Hawks finished three points out of a playoff spot last year. If they don't make it this year, and there isn't a rash of injuries or something, I would consider the season a colossal failure if they miss the playoffs. And if that happens, I would be fine with firing Tallon and Savard.
  23. I can see Tony resting a lot of his guys tonight. He typically does that on a Sunday, but for obvious reasons chose not to last night. Wouldn't be surprised if Ludwick, Pujols and Molina all sit.
  24. We would expect nothing less. I'm a lifelong, big-time Hawks fan but since moving to St. Louis have taken an interest in Checketts' efforts to bring this team back to prominence. But they've taken a step back by doing nothing. They have a few prospects coming up, but nothing that will make a Toews/Kane type of impact. Legace and Kariya are a year older and other than Boyes, there isn't a young scorer with any promise. I would like to see the Blues continue to rise, but I don't see it this year. Now, back to the Hawk talk, I think Campbell was a signing made from a position of strength. We didn't need to get one of the big scorers last offseason, and that put us in a position to get the best available d-man. With Keith back there, the position will be solid for years to come.
  25. WSH @ MIL, 1:05pm. G. Mock (who?) vs. D. Bush STL @ FLA, 6:10pm, J. Pineiro v. A. Sanchez Not sure at what point I stop caring about what the Cards are doing. I think I'm going to put it at 10 games back. As for Milwaukee, please Nats, show some respect for yourselves!
