  1. I'm in a standard 10-team, 5x5 roto league except we use QS instead of wins. We also keep four. C -- Soto 1B -- Teixeira (keeper) 2B -- Phillips (keeper) 3B -- Longoria (keeper) SS -- Y. Escobar OF -- Soriano OF -- Ellsbury (keeper) OF -- Bay UTIL -- Hawpe BENCH -- Loney BENCH -- S. Castro (this was stupid -- I'm going to drop him soon) SP -- Webb SP -- Carpenter SP -- Strasburg (wasted spot for now but I think worth it) SP -- Lackey SP -- Josh Johnson RP -- Papelbon RP -- F. Rodriguez RP -- Nunez RP -- Aardsma I feel like I'm set for saves. My problem last year was runs, and Ellsbury was a late pickup last year that I hope will help in that area. SB also, obviously. I think the performance of that starting staff is going to be key.
  2. I grudgingly agree with this. Because you're right, as great as Niemi looks sometimes he can't seem to keep it going for more than two games. So keep Huet fresh with a couple (maybe 3) starts in the last 10 and see what happens.
  3. Sassone editorializes more than he reports on the goalie situation here, but I trust it's the general impression he's gotten and that he's correct: http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/3680 I'm surprised it's so clear cut, even after last night.
  4. If they are going to face them, I think I'd rather it be in the 1st round. If it's later, that could mean Detroit has really gained some momentum by beating some other top seed. Hopefully it'll be just like the Bulls in the 90's. Gotta go through Detroit to complete the changing of the guard etc. I want them first round. I was thinking about that this morning. But then, I was the guy last year saying I wanted to have to go through Detroit to win it all. That was stupid.
  5. Who is? We own Vancouver most nights, San Jose is reeling as hard as we have been if not harder. Would you call Nashville or LA as legitimate force? Detroit of course scares the crud out of me. Yeah, but I view teams like Vancouver and San Jose as having good talent on their roster. Better than the Coyotes. Let's see how Phoenix does with that lineup when they have to face a quality roster for 7 games. I would prefer not to have to face Vancouver again. Right now I think they are the biggest obstacle.
  6. Niemi stood on his head last night, plain and simple. I don't know why it seems like he can only focus and play really well in the big games. Though I guess that bodes well for the playoffs.
  7. I believe it was a detroit based blogger doing what all columnists have done, say something stupid to get attention. I saw a story about that on Yahoo sports. The Yahoo guy couldn't understandwhy anyone would get offended by what happens at Blackhawk's games. It must be really amazing in person. Somewhat hypocritically, I don't have a problem with what we do. It's something any Hawks fan should experience at least once. But I do find that yelling out of "STARS!" or whatever else people might do, like the home of the "CHIEFS!" thing to be disrespectful.
  8. I didn't realize how close the Coyotes and Canucks are getting. Luckily the remaining schedule about these two games against Phoenix isn't too bad.
  9. I agree. I didn't see the third period, but that's exactly how I saw it. They clamped down extra well and got good efforts from the guys who needed to step up.
  10. We just had a dominant shift with the following group out there: Burish-Eager-Kopecky-Hendry-Boynton Wow.
  11. Seems to me the defensemen are playing a lot more straight-up tonight and focusing on being more sound in their own zone. Except for Boynton they are doing a good job. Wish they'd had that focus when they still had Campbell/Seabrook.
  12. Nice job crashing the net! Finally got one. Great several shifts there, and I like Hendry tonight. He started that play.
  13. That's some pretty classless stuff out of the Anaheim guys. Would like to see those assholes for a long series in April. The guys seem pretty out of sync tonight, but LA isn't doing any better.
  14. 7-8 weeks for Campbell: http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/03/blackhawks-recall-defenseman-boynton.html Hopefully they'll still be playing.
  15. Actually it is probably the most controlled environment of any tournament, and I would guess Augusta National will be able to control most of the circus type stuff by just not allowing it on site. From what I understand, they control everything involved in that tourny and are very swift in laying down the law. I suppose they could crack down on press credentials. I have no idea how that works.
  16. The Masters is going to be a circus. Gotta be a mixed blessing for them. They've got that whole pristine image going on, and the press room is going to be full of idiots from the tabloids and E! news. On the other hand, of course, the ratings will be fantastic.
  17. It probably doesn't make sense but I was thinking it was all about Comcast embarrassing rival directv or getting directv subscribers upset with their provider. I read speculation about that motive a few months ago. As I understand it Vs. just stays exactly where it was. Is that on a sports tier? I have all the sports channels (RSNs, etc.) so I don't know what is on what package.
  18. And most of the opinion I've read was that it wasn't warranted. I agree. I hate it when the NHL looks at the outcome of a play to decide the punishment. No question, if Campbell had gotten up and not been hurt, Ovie would not have been suspended. That's ass backwards.
  19. Good news, the Versus/Directv dispute is over: http://articles.latimes.com/2010/mar/15/sports/la-sp-directv-versus-20100316 I never thought they would let this bleed into the playoffs, but relieved to see it's over.
  20. Sopel makes the occasional good play and he has shown a willingness to get in front of shots, but yeah, he gets worked way too often. The Boynton trade looks pretty smart about now, eh?
  21. Oh, and according to ESPN's website, NHL Network has picked up the BOS-PIT game on Thursday.
  22. Steve Downie already tried today: Holy [expletive]! That's not as flashy as a head shot, but Downie should be suspended for the rest of the season for that.
  23. I agree this is absurd. But another possible rationale is that if you assume the Cards won't be able to sign Pujols, at least this way not only would they get a league MVP, he is a hometown guy. Now, obviously if this was a trial balloon, Cards fans are going bonkers pissed. But this is the way for the Cards to swallow the poison pill: don't just get "can't miss" prospects. Get a solid, proven guy, and a hometown hero to boot.
  24. Damn that sucks about Campbell. And of course, it's too late to do anything about it. All I can say is the secondary guys better start finding the net. That means you Versteeg, Ladd, Buff, and even the 4th line.
  25. That was me. I didn't realize that about his +/-, but it doesn't surprise me at all. He is the very definition of a "contract year" player. Except for the first part of this year, his motivation was to make the olympic team. When that didn't happen, he went back to giving half-effort or worse. He coasts all the time, especially on the forecheck. It's inexcusable. Campbell sucks, but I agree that if he's out we're in a lot of trouble. Hendry and Sopel cannot be a defensive pairing against San Jose or Vancouver. Not to mention that any additional defensive weakness only serves to put our shitty goaltending under an even bigger microscope. This is the first time since he was hired that I am questioning Q's ability to get the most of his this team. The production and dominance of the first line is still there, but after that, you've got too much dead weight. Sharp, Hossa and Madden have played well lately on the lower-down lines. Other than that, there are a lot of non-hackers out there.
