Couple things. First I think we take him for granted since he's the 4th or 5th biggest name on the roster. He would be the franchise player for a handful of teams. Also, he's just really hot right now. 25 goals, 46 points, +22 in 45 games. Unreal. Yes he's playing with top-flight talent, but he will be playing with the same level or better talent at the Olympics. So overall I think you might say Giroux (until recently) or Neal are better players, but right now Sharp was the better choice for this team. Even people that were screaming about Giroux or Martin St Louis being left off weren't complaining about Sharp making the team. Chris Kunitz seems to be the one that people are focusing on as undeserving. I'm pretty surprised St. Louis didn't make it, especially with Stevie Y. in charge. That's some cold-blooded [expletive].
