  1. Nobody is taking Lee's contract, or Soriano's. Bradley actually could have some takers if he picks up. The Cubs aren't trading Zambrano. In all, it would be stupid for them to have a fire sale. That's not to say they couldn't/wouldn't move some guys if they could (and Vance nailed who would likely to be moved), but there's not going to be a big blowout sale.
  2. Between this guy and Batman last night I consider this road trip a wash.
  3. Please go back to Cubs.com.
  4. bad pitchers = game of their life against the COBS I wonder if there's a team out there where I haven't heard their fans claim the same thing (or about new pitchers).
  5. Yet he has still been better than Bradley, Fontenot and Soto, and will be better this year than Fox or Hoffpauir would be on the field full-time. Lee might not be "that good" anymore, but why isn't he getting the benefit of the doubt when guys like Fontenot (who wasn't a highly regarded prospect and has never performed in a full-time role) and Soto (who had a mediocre minor league career until he blew up in AAA and last year in the majors) are? Because those guys are making close to the league minimum? Also, the fact he is taking up $13.25 million in payroll this year might have something to do with it. and that's a sunk cost. you don't bench a guy just because he's not performing up to the amount of money that he's making. That wasn't the argument. The question asked why Lee wasn't getting the benefit of the doubt. That's a piss-poor argument then. Production is ultimately production, and right now the Cubs have to work with what they have.
  6. Very frustrating considering all the guys they had on base all game.
  7. As opposed to the teams that look pumped and excited during a losing streak? As opposed to guys who aren't making millions of dollars to play a game...thanks for playing though. What? I don't care how much money a player makes on any level: if their team is in a prolonged slump, pretty much everyone looks and acts miserable.

  9. Come on, hes better than Alex Gonzalez. Yeah I'm not too fond of him either. So you only like players that have never done well against the Cubs?
  10. Did his bat just slow down? I mean what's the deal with him? I think he was on the juice myself. I think the wrist injury combined with his age is a better answer than any nebulous "he was on steroids" reason plus tall, rangy guys like him don't tend to age that well because they have a longer swing and their loss of bat speed hurts them more than it does a shorter guy with a more compact swing. they probably shouldn't have given him 5 years, $65M after that one great season. Eh, without the wrist injury that's probably not a bad deal.
  11. I think his biggest problem now is he's back on the fat.
  12. Did his bat just slow down? I mean what's the deal with him? I think he was on the juice myself. I think the wrist injury combined with his age is a better answer than any nebulous "he was on steroids" reason The wrist didn't help for sure, but since pretty much everyone was on the juice in that era I don't see why I can't think lee was as well. Because "the juice" doesn't adjust your swing, which is the obvious reason for Lee's success in 2005.
  13. Did his bat just slow down? I mean what's the deal with him? Tough to come back from wrist injuries, unfortunately. I seem to remember reading that a lot of his success in 2005 came from him making adjustments and beaing able to turn on inside pitches. That's pretty much out the window with a lot of wrist injuries, plus it's going to slow down his swing (coupled with natural decline). It's an unfortunate perfect storm of debilitation.
