    they have room to play in those countries. finding playable fields to practice on that aren't five miles outside the city is a problem for the kids around here. What the hell can baseball do about that though? What they have been doing; investing in the construction and maintaining of baseball facilities.

    I'm aware, but nothing is going to be a cure all. Expecting baseball to do a ton more is pretty noble, but crazy. They're businesses and it makes a lot more sense for them to set up baseball academies in other countries. I'm not sure how anyone can change that? Uh, what? It's MLB that really wants to get these kids into baseball because it's good for their business. They're missing out on a ton of amazing athletes that they want playing baseball. I have no idea why you're acting like this is something that MLB is being forced or pressured to do; they WANT to do it.

    The bigger issue for poor kids in American cities is the lack of playing fields as opposed to the lack of equipment (which is still a big issue).

    I agree, but thought black kids found baseball boring and that was more why they were avoiding baseball. It's not that simple. Too many don't even have a chance to give it a shot.

    Which is why I posted some actual information on the subject. Some people like to follow along with the rumors and hard information as it is breaking instead of waiting for the final result to show up in the updated title. It's like actually watching the baseball game and riding it's ups and downs instead of reading the box score. So ask the admins to create a news-only thread about the guy. People bull [expletive] about the topic at hand is also part of the process.

    Every. Single. Time. Every single time there's some ongoing thread about a potential trade or signing they're ALWAYS updated in the title when something actually happens, yet every single time you also have people complaining that they have to read through multiple pages to find out if something happened. Even Pavlov's dog is ashamed by this.

    I point you to the Darvish example and what we offered him... They appear to not be willing to overpay for FA or non-MLB talent (Japan, DR etc...). None of us have any clue what the Cubs bid for Darvish.

    ... for the reasons I stated. Getting rid of the DH achieves the same objectives. No, you flank steak; I want it for consistency AND because I like it more than the pitcher hitting.

    This part isn't really true. The NL has better #7 and #8 hitters than the AL #8 and #9 hitters. Even when you compare it 7 and 8 to 7 and 8 it's close. The worst hitter besides an NL #9 hitter is an AL #9 hitter, and it's not particularly close. The NL does seem to put poor hitters in the #2 spot though. Here's last year OPS advantages: #1 spot- NL by 11 points #2-AL by 62 #3-NL by 12 #4-NL by 33 #5-AL by 22 #6-NL by 3 #7-AL by 9 #8-AL by 5 #9-AL by 164 Total: AL by 20 I was surprised to see from how much we talk about sluggers going to the AL that the NL led in both the 3 and 4 spot last year, and by a decently large margin in the 4 spot. Oh well. I'd still rather have the DH. And does this track back consistently?

    That's a bit of a disingenuous comparison, wouldn't you say? Most minor leagues adopted the DH because they're developmental leagues where it's very beneficial to have the additional hitters in the lineup every day rather than a couple pitcher at bats. How is it disingenuous? I want the DH; pretty much everyone except the NL uses it. I really don't care about the details or they reasons why certain leagues have it...I just want consistency and I'm sick of my team playing at a needless disadvantage.

    I understand what Rob is saying and used to completely agree with that line of thinking, but you do have to admit it's pretty ludicrous that the NL exists as this bizarre bastion of "strategy" when pretty much every single other level of professional and amateur baseball has evolved past it (or at least wised up and have the option to use it). I guess they can join arms with the Japanese Central League and proudly march off of a cliff together or something. Plus I think it has a ripple effect and makes it more acceptable/tolerable to have too many shitty players out there because they're "just batting down by the pitcher's spot." Too often the 7-8 spots are just black holes of suck because of the damned #9 spot.
