  1. Yea, I realize they are on that building on Clark and Waveland. But I've heard that Theo and Jed are at that rooftop building. That's badass if true It's not. There's only one office building (and Wrigley).
  2. Who said that? That reads like somebody else's interpretation of what was said and not a direct quote. "Get-concussed"? It was on MLBTR, I assume it was Towers, Gibson, or someone else in the organization. They are not quoting Towers, they are quoting a writer, Jeff Passan. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/snakebitten--d-backs-make-peculiar-decision-to-trade-justin-upton-s--superstar--talent-to-bolster--grinder--culture-041239192.html If Gibson is behind this, he's as bad as Dusty. Not sure which is worse: having a manager destroy all of your young players (along with their trade value) or having a manager that would prefer trading your young players for guys who play "the right way." I think I'd still lean towards Dusty.
  3. So it looks like the norm is somewhere between 50-60 night games. I'd be happy to see the Cubs move into that lower tier of teams. As much as they want more night games, day baseball at Wrigley still holds cache and adds to the brand. I'd be OK with as many night games during the week as possible and more 3:05 starts on the weekends (and Friday).
  4. I hate the rooftops.
  5. http://lakeview.patch.com/articles/tunney-talks-wrigley-field-lists-his-demands Seriously, [expletive] that [expletive] guy and that [expletive] neighborhood with regard to the night game limits. He can't possibly be asking the Cubs for all of this. It must be a combination of the Cubs and the city. A "commitment to restore" the Sheridan stop? Why would the Cubs ever throw money at a public transit station blocks away from the stadium? Same thing with an improved streetscape on Sheffield and Clark. That's not the Cub's problem. They put up lights on the sidewalk when they did the bleacher expansion. I'm not too familiar with city politics, but what can Tunney possibly do if Rahm decides this is what Rahm wants? Can Tunney block anything?
  6. I am completely opposed to the suburban ballpark idea, but if they can't get reasonable responses in negotiations they have to explore it. Oh, there's no doubt it would suck if they actually had to build a stadium in the suburbs. But the option has to be put on the table.
  7. And he promised her a basketball scholarship (she's a freshman).
  8. If the city or neighborhood starts seriously pushing back on this proposal, it's time Ricketts starts exploring alternatives outside of the city limits. Let the neighborhood and city determine whether it's in their best interests to take care of a decaying "landmark" with no professional sports team playing in it.
  9. I understood the Season Ticket holder presale as something different than a standard Ticketmaster presale, but I could be wrong. Does anyone know how this has worked in the past? IIRC, each season ticket holder gets an individual password that can only be used to buy 2-4 tickets to the event. Either that or it makes you enter your account number before choosing a seat.
  10. They were at the time of the Heisman.
  11. There is a rumor on realgm that the Bulls/Sonics ( :) )/Bobcats are having talks centered around the infamous Bobcats protected pick the Bulls have. Bulls get: Jason Thompson Jimmer Fredette Trailblazers Top 12 Protected 1st round pick (from Charlotte) Sonics get: Gerald Henderson Nazr Mohammed Bobcats get: Future 1st round pick back from Bulls Richard Hamilton That would leave the Bulls (post return) with Rose/Hinrich/Robinson/Teague Bellineli/Fredette/Cook Deng/Butler/Radmonovic Boozer/Gibson Noah/Thompson And 2 first round picks this year in the late teens to mid 20s That would be a solid trade for the Bulls in terms of depth, but do you trust Fredette to start? Bellineli? I think you have to start Bellineli. Fredette is too short, and you can't have Rose guarding SG's. With Rose playing, I'd have no problem starting Bellineli. He can just stand at the arc and shoot when the ball is passed to him.
  12. http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20130121/BLOGS02/130129990/ricketts-moves-rahm-on-wrigley-but-not-rooftops#ixzz2Ie2t5m5n Actually, your facilities are humongous eyesores. Neighborhood blight built up to take advantage of a parasitic relationship. I really like the idea of a modern Wrigley remaining under team ownership with more subtle signage (I have gotten used to the Toyota board) and the slow return of the buildings across the street to the status of quaint residences. Whenever I hear them talk about the "rooftop experience" I think of that new rooftop all the way behind the upper deck in right field, where you probably can't see more than 75% of the outfield and 10% of the infield.
  13. As I recall, he's pretty new to pitching, but very athletic with a clean delivery. So you'd be getting him for his upside, with the hope that the numbers improve. I always thought he was overhyped because he was drafted by the Red Sox.
  14. At best, he's maybe (?) a marginal upgrade to Cutler. I think they're probably about equal. Thinking this team will somehow turn around by giving up multiple first round picks to get Flacco is stupid, especially when that decision is based on one half of a game.
  15. Didn't he used to be a coach here?
  16. If Garza is willing to sign something like Edwin did it does not bode well for his confidence regarding his health. Yeah, you can't sign him to an extension until he shows he's healthy. But if he wants to sign something like 4/60 in May after proving his health, the Cubs should do that. Is May long enough to show he's healthy? Good point. I just threw it out there. I guess a decision should come closer to the trading deadline.

  18. Well, in one case, the player came directly to them and they reacted, which is understandable. In the other, do we know the athletic program had any immediate knowledge, or was it just reported to campus police and they did nothing? Or was it reported to both the campus police and the athletic department? I don't recall the details.
  19. for some reason, i had it in my head that this girl was in hawaii the whole time following the accident, while getting leukemia treatment, etc. then i realized she was allegedly in california. i also didn't realize the accident apparently occurred 8 months before she died of cancer. so the love of his life almost dies in a car accident and begins undergoing treatment for leukemia over the span of 8-9 months and te'o doesn't go see her. and apparently the car accident occurs 8 months before she "died of cancer," which means it was in january, which means te'o had nothing but time on his hands after the 2011 football season was over. and he doesn't go visit her. sociopath seems more likely than gullible to me at this point. or [expletive] boyfriend ever. She told him she was in a car accident about 3 months after they started corresponding (email, twitter, phone, whatever). that's not my understanding of the timeline. so in june 2012, she's still recovering from her car accident injuries. she clearly was "dating" te'o by this point, correct? Seems like they started talking, things got serious, and when it became apparent that he wanted to actually meet the fake girl, they faked a car accident. After she recovered from that, they had to make up another story to keep him away so they came up with leukemia.
  20. Wasn't he reluctant to become the DC in the first place? I could even see him becoming a D-line coach if Lovie becomes a DC. you give him a raise and sell him on his role as the dick lebeau of the bears. He'll be the last man standing of the old regime, which means he'll be the fall guy if the defense takes any kind of step backwards. I hope he stays, but I still consider it a longshot.

  22. 10 years ago. That sentence also could have described Martz (except for the pass-protection conscious part). So, what, he moved to Canada and all of a sudden was like, "[expletive] Quarterbacks, dog. I've had enough."? No, but 10 years later, Martz's offense wasn't very innovative or smart (and still not pass-protection conscious). The league passed him by. I'd rather have someone who has had recent offensive success in the league.
  23. 10 years ago. That sentence also could have described Martz (except for the pass-protection conscious part).
  24. ND fans would kill themselves if he leaves already. Yeah, no. Many, many ND fans had this reaction on the season: "Nice job, Brian. Now run the damn football." There's a lot of folks who still think he's small timey. Hard to see what would ever please them if this season didn't. It sounds like this was a negotiating ploy. But even if he really wants to go to the NFL, the job looks pretty [expletive] good right now. So we'd be ok. Sounds like he has a 2nd interview set up for this weekend once he gets back in the States. That sounds like lore than just negotiating. I think you'd be losing a great coach, and it would come a few weeks before National Signing Day. There's a chance your recruiting class could fall apart with no coach right before signing. I think you're overreacting. Most players don't pick a school b/c of a coach. Might some recruits look? Maybe. But ND could promote either of their two coordinators, even if on an interim basis, and very little would change. Martin has been on Kelly's staff for over a decade. Diaco has been with him for ~5 years and was associated with half a dozen HC positions this winter. And that assumes there's mutual interest. Anazalone has already decommitted...
  25. case keenum wasn't drafted. i don't see the point, here. Hes short and slight, had a low release and played for a mid-major. Comparison was made as evidence of Sumlin’s style favoring a QB statistically. Manziel is already a huge star and will likely continue to put of massive numbers in the SEC and possibly contend for a national title and another Heisman. This will push up his draft stock. Assuming his production remains somewhat consistent he will be a top ten pick. Christian Ponder was taken 12th overall and is a success story. no, you mentioned sumlin's work with keenum as evidence that manziel will go high when keenum wasn't even drafted. if anything, it proves the opposite of your point. I think he mentioned Keenum as evidence that Sumlin's system will cause Manziel to put up huge numbers throughout his career. So by the time he enters the draft, it's possible he could have multiple Heismans with huge numbers for years in the SEC, causing him to get overdrafted. So basically Tebow 2.0.
