  1. If said manager had Derrek Lee on the team with him it's quite likely he would. The Cardinal organization would go ballistic if ANYBODY stuck Albert in the outfield. You guys can have your imaginary fun, but in reality, it would NEVER happen. Pujols would start at first base, and Derrek Lee would be a pinch-hitter extraordinaire. The Cardinals organization DID stick AP in the outfield. In your world, DLee doesn't have 2 gold gloves at 1B. And there's a reason why he's not there today.

  3. People, Pujols hasn't played outfield since 2003, and no manager in his right mind would stick him in left field for even ONE game, at this point.
  4. Fluff? How so? Either fluff or history. No one knows, including Rolen, what he'll be able to do this year. So far, there've been no setbacks, he's hitting for a good avg. this spring, and his power isn't quite there yet (which is expected and not unlike a lot of other ballplayers). Make of it what you will. Right. I agree that there are questions, but I don't think anybody is denying that.
  5. The stadium isn't even DONE yet. Maybe the 15 National League pennants and 9 World Series banners will give it "character"? What would give it more "character"? A mound in center field? A train track above the outfield? Ivy on the wall? A roof? A roller coaster in the bleacher section? No thanks. It's a baseball stadium, in it's purest form........ and is expected to be as comfortable as any stadium in baseball. That's fine, by me. What will give it character is the bestest most knowledgable fans in sports. :pukel: Soon to be followed by gay comments, fat jokes, and trailer trash remarks....... So predictable....... Oh shut up. Mind your own business...... nyah nyah nyah.

  8. The inside configuration is very similar. Look at the geometrics of the stands along the third base line. It's almost identical. But like I said, there's nothing wrong with that.......... GA is a terrific place to watch baseball. You only need bells & whistles (trains, hills in the outfield, etc.) if the product on the field isn't very appealing. That's not the case in St. Louis. But you're right....... they're both baseball stadiums, so there will certainly be alot of similarities. You're also right that Busch is MUCH more appealing on the outside.
  9. Great America Ball Park is a great place to watch a game......... one of the most comfortable I've been in. If the new Busch is similar, I'm happy. The uniqueness is in the product on the field, I think.
  10. He won't have to worry about crashing into the OF wall because he will be traded as soon as Bowden can get enough to save face. I don't understand why people are surprised that he backed down and went out to play LF, since he isn't stupid enough to lose $10 million and his free agent year. If I were an AL GM, I would be interested in trying to get him as a DH. I doubt if he'd be willing to DH, since there's not going to be any money in it, long-term. The money is in being a very good-hitting second baseman. Hopefully every GM in the league will realize that he's horrible defensively, and wont' give him a chance.
  11. Yep, potshots at the other team. That's what we're all about here at NSBB. And racist remarks? What are you talking about? I'm not talking about anything specific. I'm just saying......... it's hard to deal with Cub fans here, because of the personal shots that they take.
  12. Jacque Jones will bat .300/345/484 with 20 SB's and 35 HR's. See how easy it is to make ridiculous predictions. I didn't say he was going to have a sub 4.00 ERA or 200 Ks. I just said he would win 15 games. The Cardinals took a 1 million dollar risk on a pitcher that showed a lot of promise 3 years ago. A guy who has done some stupid things in his life that he may or may not have moved on from. Duncan has great track record with guys like this. If he's a bust, no big deal. Not only that, but if he fails, then they've got two promising players ready to step in. I can't see how this is a crisis in the making, quite frankly. Some people want to construe his successful spring as a BAD thing. I simply don't agree.
  13. And 5 of them against the Cubs  :( I'll just content myself with Z dominating you guys yet again. Z's three year splits against the Cards: 2.15 ERA, .205 BAA That's known as "filthiness." Zambrano is a great pitcher, no doubt about it. See how easy that is, Cubs fans. No fat jokes....... no racist remarks.......... no gay comments. Give it a shot!
  14. How does that apply to Wainwright or Reyes? Unless you think they'd be more effective than Ponson (which you don't have much evidence of... if any), then nothing is being "wasted". In Reyes' case, he'll be working on a new weapon. In Wainwright's case, he could be helping in the bullpen. I think anyone witha 6.21 ERA is a "waste of time" in MLB...buuuutttt I'm glad he's with the Cards!!!!! :D It's 4.52. Not bad for a 5th starter, really.
  15. "Sources". Yeah right. Then why wasn't anybody in left field? I'm sorry, but it seems like more than a coincidence that 1) Soriano has openly said that he won't play left field and 2) There was no left fielder and 3) Nick Johnson knew that Soriano was supposed to be in left field. I'm not the sharpest tool in the box, but I know that two and two don't add up to three.

  17. link It's pretty funny how the coaches and club officials went out of their way to talk crap about this incident when there was a completely benign explanation for it happening. Hmm, trade for a player who is known to resist a position change. Demand that position change be made and then publicly bash the player for things he hasn't even done (or you've set him up to not do). The Nationals really hurt their case by acting like this if Soriano wants to file a grievance of the position change. By the way, this whole thing doesn't add up. If Soriano's name wasn't on the lineup card, then wouldn't someone else (the actual left-fielder on the lineup card) have trotted out to left field? Soriano's an idiot, and he's probably lying on top of it.
  18. Let me also cast my vote in support of Adam Wainwright wasting starts this year. What do you mean "wasting"?

The Nationals really hurt their case by acting like this if Soriano wants to file a grievance of the position change. Nick Johnson supposedly called him and told him he was in the lineup, so he should have been ready to go. Soriano also said that he didn't want to be in the lineup, if he's not playing second base. The guy's being a complete jerk. If your team needs you to play the outfield, then shut up and play.
  20. Other than refusing to do what his employer (who is paying him $10 million) tells him to do? It's not that simple. Even the MLB Basic Labor Agreement is unclear on this issue. Personally, I think the team has a stronger case b/c of some of the wording, but the ordered change of position is not covered. You are only required to do what the contract (and the law) require you to under the terms you agreed to. Contract schmontract. He's acting like an idiot. They're paying him 10 million bucks. It's not like they're asking him to paint the stadium or sell hot dogs. They're asking him to play baseball at a different position. To me, he's doing something wrong.

  22. If the Cards can afford the luxury of allowing Reyes to develop yet another weapon without having the pressure to win at the big-league level, I have no problem with it, especially considering how effective Wainwright has been. With Wainwright looking ready to go, and Reyes waiting in the wings, I have to believe that Ponson will be on a pretty short leash.
  23. I'm not a big fan of grandstanding politicians, but the fact remains that if Congress didn't get involved, the players union would never have caved in to the current policy - which by no means is perfect but it is a step in the right direction. Congress didn't need the permission of McGwire, Sosa, Palmeiro, and Schilling to get involved. If I recall, none of those guy shed any light on the steroid problem at the hearing.
