  1. Last I heard, he was (surprise!) injured.
  2. on the bolded part above. nonesense. neither the Cardinals or Astros had big injury problems in 2003. the grand sum of their impact injuries were Cardinals - Vina replaced by the two month wonder, Bo Hart. Drew replaced by Eduardo Perez's 122 OPS+, Morris missing about 6 starts. . Just for the sake of accuracy--2003 was the year Izzy didn't make an appearance until June---and the Cards bullpen blew an inordinant amount of saves while he was out. But that's not an excuse--the Cards played like crap in September and didn't deserve the division. Sorry for the slight derail.
  3. I'm a Cards fan...and I agree 100% with you. If the exact play happened to Pujols in StL, it would be a ruled a hit. Heck, LaRussa would have been on the phone to the official scorer if it wasn't.
  4. Very well thought out, and I agree completely that both Morris and Carpenter would be best served by a skipped start. But I listened to TLR on his call-in show last Sunday morning and he pretty much dismissed out of hand the idea of skipped starts in September due to the several off days the Cards have towards the end of the month. At the very least I hope he severely limits the pitch counts for the starters the last few weeks. The Cards will go as far as the starting pitching takes them, and there is no excuse if one or more of the starters is ineffective or injured going into the playoffs due to overuse.
  5. Cause he wants to shatter the single season stolen base record, too.
  6. But if you take it to the absurd extreme the idea kinda falls apart. Let's say the comic book hero 'The Flash" decided to take up baseball. Give him six hundred at bats and let him try to get down a bunt every time. Say he's successful at it 350 times-Whoosh! Safe at first! Then Zip! on the next three pitches he steals second, third then home. So under the stealing home=rbi, the Flash would almost double the single season rbi record while never hitting the ball farther than six feet from the plate. Yeah I gotta lot free time on my hands. :P
