  1. I agree. He really needs to be moved, and not just because he's a bad baseball player.
  2. Yeah, huge difference there. I'm not interested in a Rod Beck situation where a once great closer tries to get by with lesser stuff. He'd have to have some legit numbers for me to think this was worth the time. unless he ends up living in an RV in Des Moines and will let fans drink beer with him after games That just might be the greatest thing ever. I'm glad we had Beck, it was hilarious. My friends still laugh about his effeminate prance to cover first base in the 1998 LDS against the Braves. Doubt anyone remembers that, but it was great.
  3. No, Del Rio is AWFUL. He is easily one of the bottom five coaches in the league. The team has no discipline on or off the field. It's not just his lack of control, his in-game tactics are brutal. He's terrible. The WR's are big and athletic, but struggle getting open and catching the ball. They're slightly above average at best. Honestly, I think that's a little generous. QB is certainly the biggest problem. However, unless it's a move to a top-tier QB (which Culpepper hasn't been in a few years, and may have only been once), they won't be an "elite" team. They'd be better, but nowhere near elite.
  4. The crazy thing is, all they need is a top-notch QB to become an elite team. They've got the running game (Jones-Drew and Taylor), the receivers (Matt Jones, etc) the line and the defense. I was very afraid when they had the chance to draft Brady Quinn. Well, then you like their receivers and coaching better than I do.
  5. lol at Jacksonville. Culpepper, Leftwitch and Gerrard...wow, well if quantity starts defeating quality they may have something.
  6. Murton had an isolated patience of .065 when he was first called up. It's not perfect, but it's proper discipline. Ramirez had a .061 his first year. Lee was over .100 in his first limited duty, and .085 in his first real season. Felix is at .010 right now. That has to improve dramatically. Agree, that's dismal. However, he does look more patient than Patterson, for whatever that's worth.
  7. If that's indeed the case, then I'd sell it immediately. I don't believe that's true. There wouldn't be an "accession to wealth" until the ball was sold. I could be wrong, I'm just a law student, but I don't think you're liable for taxes by catching a baseball -- even that baseball.
  8. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is/was notorious for this. (Obviously in a different sport). The sense of entitlement is a little shocking.
  9. Interesting. I thought the idea was for Soriano to be a good influence on Pie, but it looks like just the opposite. Like I've said before, with Pie in CF, Soriano has less ground to cover in LF and that allows Fonz to focus about his bat and not worry about his glove. Do you really think that matters? I certainly don't. Maybe it doesn't normally, but Soriano has proved to be very sensitive to various factors. He's hit better at leadoff than other spots, hit better while playing LF than CF, etc. Maybe the sample sizes are too small to draw a definitive conclusion, but it's certainly possible. Oh, I'll end with the omnipresent "players aren't robots" and different things may affect them differently
  10. I initially had hope for Eddie Johnson, but no longer. It's time to give someone else a chance up top. NOT Ante Razov though. I'll be redundant: I hate Hejduk. I thought we were rid of him, guess not. I still think Gooch has promise, but I don't know how long you can wait for him to get it together. Then again, with the state of our current defense, maybe there isn't much choice. Bradley has promise, I think, and certainly tackles hard. But he's going to have to do more. He's as invisible as Donovan normally -- though Donovan's visible moments are much better. Feilhaber was better, I suppose. We desperately need better central midfield play if we're ever going to become more than a second-tier soccer country. We at least need a player like Reyna was on his good days. Beasley played fine, he shows great work rate. Which leads to Dempsey, who is my favorite player on the team. He has flair, which is rare in a US player. Still, like USSoccer said, we need more than 60 minutes from him. He's too important to play only 2/3 of the match. The one thing I've never worried about for the USMNT is goalkeeping, and Howard is no exception in a long line of solid net-minders. I like neither Bocanegra or Bornstein.
  11. This has been an extremely unimpressive, uninspired performance by the US -- especially in the second half. Let's just hope they can hang on.
  12. I hate Hejduk, and always have. I thought we were rid of him. He's terrible. Bocanegra stinks. I've also been unimpressed by Borenstein. I like Dempsey a lot. Donovan's good when he's not invisible. Me too. How is Johnthon Spector's development coming along? He plays in the EPL. With the current state of our defense, that's enough for me. Get him here.

  14. The place I'm staying has FSC, so I'm getting to watch this game. Yay!
  15. I'd like to see Bonds destroyed, so he never has the record.
  16. With a 12 man staff, 2-3 appearances per week from one guy is not going to overtax anybody else. True. But don't you think at some point the organization will come to its senses and revert to an 11-man staff? No. They've been doing it this way for years. They seem to prefer it. Whenever they go to 11 man briefly, they quickly go back to 12. The only way I could see them go back to 11 is if the starters consistently go 6+ strong and 5 of the relievers start pitching really well, consistently. I didn't mean this year; I've stopped hoping for logical decisions by the current management. I am, however, hoping things become cogent next year. But, of course, that would mean retaining Wood again.
  17. wouldn't you get wasted if you're new boss is Jim Hendry? Yeah, out of joy. I'd know I was about to be overpaid.

  19. I'm stuck at work. Too bad, I'd really like to watch. Especially as the Cubs pick so early. Just hang out at NSBB. We'll keep you informed. :D Oh, don't worry, I will. I do that everyday, and draft day will certainly be no exception.
