  1. Wow Canada owning the US. Oh well, it's not like we're going to win it. Face it.....the Dominican Republic is the best team.
  2. come on....you don't know any of our past supposed "can't miss prospects"? I'll just rattle a few out that were supposedhoi to be. Hee Seop Choi, Jerome Walton, Earl Cunningham, Corey Patterson, Kevin Orie, Glenallen Hill, Jason Dubois, Bobby Hill, Juan Cruz, and the list goes on and on. Cubs farm system have produced good arms from time to time such as Prior and Zambrano, but they don't have any good positional prospects. Pie is supposed to be the next "the one". Yet, if you watch any of his games in the winter league, he is just riding the bench because he's batting .217 or something like that. Not to say he isn't good, he is but he's not ready to be rushed up to the major leagues. We did it to Patterson, and we shouldn't do it to Pie. He'll probably need another year or two. Pie still has horrible discipline at the plate and has a long loopy swing. He is fast though and a great defensive talent. A big plus is he's a consummate winner....he has won in all levels of minor league and that certain intangible is what makes this kid special. It's the same intangible that Derek Jeter has. We should continue to groom him and not rush him up. From all the past prospects, I really think Pie can succeed the most at ML level in a year or two.
  3. Before, I used to discount everything that Barry Bonds did because he might have used steroids. But I just saw the HR he hit off Patterson today and my god.....no other hitter could hit that pitch for a homer other than Barry. ESPN just did a segment on it, that was a perfectly-placed pitch and he still nailed it. He's got a great eye and plate discipline and when he swings at a pitch he usually hits it out. Steroids don't enhance hand-eye coordination. Steroids or not, he's gotta be one of the greatest hitters I've seen. That bat speed he gets is unbelievable. I think next year when that independent steroid commission gets started and Bonds is still hitting around 50-60 homers next year, I'm convinced he's the greatest hitter.
  4. No, with nomar going to 2nd. It's less range for Nomar, so he won't stress out his groin. With his arm, he can do fine on 2nd. Cedeno can start at SS. Nomar is a career .320 hitter and you can see how good he is since he came back. He's hitting .370 with 6 homers. And he said he's willing to work for less than $2 million dollars, but of course laden with incentives. I say give him a chance, and that would save us money to go after help for our bullpen and one outfielder (maybe damon).
  5. sorry but with that lineup that's a guaranteed last-place finish. sure the pitching is good. but the hitters will be shut out. Have you watched Sing? Yes Sing's improved but he's not major league ready. He needs 1 more year. He needs to cut down on strikeouts. Just because he does well in AAA doesn't mean he can succeed in the majors. Just ask Dubois, Glenallen Hill. The only 2 rookies that will be starting or should start next year are Cedeno and Murton. pie maybe later in the year. Pie isn't ready. He will be Corey Patterson II all over again.
  6. That's guaranteeing a last place finish for the next 10 years. you don't just put in all unproven rookies in the starting lineup. You still keep some veterans and add maybe a couple rookies in the lineup. Aram isn't old he's what.....26? And D. Lee is like 27 or somewhere around there. Have you seen Dopirak? If you think Corey's bad, wait till you see Dopirak. He has horrendous defense and strikesout like there is no tomorrow. He will get eaten up at Wrigley. And you want Richard Lewis at 2b? you don't watch minor league baseball at all. everyone knows that Eric Patterson would be up before Richard Lewis will as 2nd baseman. I agree with Murton. Cedeno should be up. Pie, I'm not so sure yet. he K's a whole lot. I don't want him to be another Patterson.
  7. Problem is if Nomar isn't signed, Perez will be back. And you think Baker's going to start Cedeno over Perez? not a chance. Perez will be the everyday SS. That's why I want the Cubs to resign Nomar, because it will surely give Cedeno playing time next year.
  8. I mean he was a monster in the first half and now he's ice cold. His career average is .278. Has he really solved his problem or is it just a fluke? If it's a fluke we should trade him while his value is the highest.
  9. I wonder what we are going to do with him, especially with D. Lee over at 1st base and he isn't old. If D. Lee is here for the forseeable future....we would have to convert Sing to something. can he play LF or is he too slow?
  10. This is great. We can see our prospects up earlier in the season and see how the future will be. They probably play better than the stupid team we have playing in the majors. It's back to the glory days of the Cubs before 2003. When we all went to Wrigley just to have a good time and not worry about the outcome of the game. If they win...great! If they lose....that's great too! at least i got my beer. Wrigley field is so much better during the lovable losers era. This board will be better once we know that the Cubs are destined to lose. Go Cubs!
  11. Giles is too old....Get Dunn. most consistent HR hitter in the past 3 years even better than Pujols. Sure he strikes out alot but gets on bases alot. His OBP over the last 2 years is one of the best in the major leagues.
  12. no the season is over. start for 2006. houston is a better team.
