  1. The only thing I could find on Austin Reed is that he's the brother of Addison Reed, who got drafted by the White Sox in the 3rd Round.
  2. Austin Wilson to the Cards. I wonder if they have a shot at signing him?
  3. Two guys that we took in previous drafts and didn't get due to signingability are still out there in 3B Victor Sanchez from San Diego and 1B Andrew Clark from Louisville.
  4. I would love Ficociello or Duke. Pass on Wilson at his price tag. It's not that I really think Wilson is worth his tag either, but I haven't seen the committment to the draft that I was hoping to see this year either. At least going out and grabbing someone like him would appease that some. I like Jaffe alot, if he can be convinced to be a pitcher and not a hitter.
  5. Come on Cubs, give us SOMETHING to get excited about: Austin Wilson needs to be ours, whether we have to overpay him or not. And of course we draft another guy who we won't be able to pronounce....... Anyway, Wilson, Ficociello, Jaffe, and Duke is about all that's left, as far as what I care about.
  6. because what he did in AA two years ago could be indicative of how he plays in chicago. is that such a hard concept to wrap your head around? Aren't the minors there to let guys work on things though? Sure, Colvin may go 0 for his next 100 for all we know. But, it's at least plausible to think that he could have matured into what he's done to this point as well. Just because a guy struggles in the minors for a year or two, doesn't close the book on him as a prospect(or probably the better term is actually "future major league contributor")
  7. I have no idea whether or not Tyler Colvin is ever going to be a true starter for the Cubs. Neither does anyone else. But, the purpose of the minors is to get someone ready to play in the majors. If Colvin did that by working on things and not caring exactly what type of numbers he was putting up in Tennessee, I truly don't care, if he produces at the major league level. He has so far, so that's all that matters at this point, whether we like it or not.
  8. Rasmussen was for sure. Don't think Klein has been. Edit: Oops, didn't see that with Klein. Incidently, Hahn goes off the board to the Rays. :banghead:
  9. He's a 20 year old in the Florida State League with incredible tools. I wouldn't lose all hope for him yet, although his struggles are disappointing. You're right, I kind of wish we had kept him at Peoria for another season honestly.
  10. I have no problems with Golden or Gibbs honestly, but there were certainly some higher ranked and more expensive guys on the board when they were took. I'm disappointed in the fact that almost all of the guys that fell are now gone and we didn't act like a big market team and scoop any of them up.
  11. He seems like a good kid and all, but does he profile as much more than another Tony Campana for us honestly? Maybe a touch more power is about all I can see anyway.
  12. OF Matthew Szczur Villanova. Speed guy, who offers little else, unless I'm mistaken.
  13. I am pretty pissed at this point, seeing how well the Red Sox are running things, versus what we're doing. It's got to be a monetary issue, if you ask me. The Red Sox are committed to the draft and it doesn't look like we are honestly. The Red Sox now have gotten Vitek and Brentz, who appear to be signed already for slot. There's 2.5 mill or so spent already, and then they added Ranaudo, who could get 3-4 mill himself, depending on what happens this summer. They followed it up with Brandon Workman, another top 40ish guy on basically every board I've seen. He'll probably get close to a million. Then they pick Sean Coyle, who's a tough sign from UNC, so he'll cost a pretty penny, followed by Garin Cecchini, who's also going to cost over a mill. It's VERY conceivable to think the Red Sox have spent close to 10 mill ALREADY. And they'll be extremely active come July 2nd too. Basically, I'm jealous as hell.
  14. Cecchini and Austin Wilson are the two highest ranked guys left from what I can tell.
  15. Is it too early to take a flyer on Hahn?
  16. Click on the "Draft Tracker" link on MLB.com's draft page. BA's draft database will also have it. Thanks man. I almost wish I hadn't checked as I saw Cole JUST went off the board a few minutes ago. As far as Golden and Gibbs go, I like both picks, but I certainly would have taken Cole over either of them.
  17. Really? While I've never been a huge Vitters fan to begin with, one month of struggling in AA doesn't make him a no-hope guy to me, by any stretch. Burke has certainly struggled and it's very disappointing, but I'm definitely going to give him the whole year before I make a judgment on him as well. Lake? Yeah, he's kind of hopeless.
  18. Where can I find the entire round 2 and 3 picks? I can't seem to find it on MLB.com for some reason.
  19. Why? They have every intention of trying to sign him but they know it'll be difficult as he's a 2 sport athlete going to LSU to also play QB. If they can't reach that agreement, they get a similar pick next year. I honestly don't think the Dodgers have any interest in signing Lee personally. With the divorce thing happening, it seems like a relatively sneaky way to avoid spending money to me. We'll see, worse case scenario they get a pick a little later in a likely stronger draft and the kids gets a free ride to play sports at LSU and have a 1st rd. tag on his resume. Yeah, in a weaker draft like this one, the strategy could actually pay off for the Dodgers(if this IS their strategy anyway)
  20. Goldstein's top 10 that's left and his take on them paraphrased....... 1. Stetson Allie- Priced himself out of the market. 2. Brett Eibner- Teams look at him as a pitcher and he wants to be a hitter. 3. Austin Wilson- Too raw to warrant giving out the huge bonus he's wanting. 4. Brandon Workman- Teams see him as a reliever. 5. Yordy Cabrera- Million + seems awfully high for a 20 year old HS Senior, but should go quick tomorrow. 6. AJ Cole- Signability is NOW an issue, as he wants money as if he were a pick in the 20's. 7. Sam Solis- The run on projectable HS arms hurt him, since he's got less upside, but should go early tomorrow. 8. Jedd Gyorko- Lack of defensive position hurt him, but he should go quick tomorrow too. 9. Ryne Stanek- Too much, too soon. Scouts didn't believe in his newfound velocity 10. Jesse Hahn- Left game yesterday with forearm tightness and there is no update on his injury as of yet.
  22. Why is Stetson Allie still out there though? This is the biggest question I have right now? He threw 100 MPH yesterday, if I'm not mistaken. Maybe this is a classic case of the obvious: We don't know what the scouts know? I really want to find out why he's still there, but we probably never will. Cole struggled as of late, so he's kind of understandable, I guess. That said, I'd love for Hendry's Florida connections to kick in, if he's still there.
  23. Along with those guys, I really like Jarrett Parker and Ryne Stanek. Some other guys ranked really high are Yordy Cabrera, Ryan LaMarre, and Chad Bettis. For some reason, I can see the Cubs taking Derek Dietrich in the 2nd round. ACC routes, up the middle player, lefty hitter with decent pop. But, I'd much rather grab ANY of the guys you just named or the ones I just listed as well. What about LeVon Washington? How far has his stock fallen? How bad is Jessie Hahn hurt? If DeAndre Smelter is signable, he'd be a nice pickup for us. A few other guys I would like to see us get(1 or 2 of these guys would be great) along with one of the aforementioned guys anyway....... 3B Dominic Ficocielllo C Alex Lavisky OF Reggie Golden OF Kendrick Perkins OF Angelo Gumbs 3B Chad Lewis OF Mel Rojas Jr SS Niko Goodrum C Matt Roberts P AJ Vanegas (tough sign) P Kevin Gausman P Drew Cisco P Scott Frazier P Eric Jaffe P Rob Rasmussen P Adam Duke P John Simms P John Barbato P Cody Buckel P Evan Rutckyj
