  2. I'm going to spend a lot of time in Des Moines early in the season.
  3. I have to believe their intention is to use him in the pen in 2012 with the goal of getting him stretched back out to join the rotation in 13 or 14.
  4. OK, you know what you do? You buy yourself a tape recorder, you just record yourself for a whole day.
  5. If he was my brother-in-law or something I'd always look at him sideways, but as a baseball player I'll never meet, if it does fall into that category I don't think I'll have much problem hoping he does well on the baseball field. I wasn't saying I wouldn't hope for him to perform well, just that you wouldn't find me wearing a Castro jersey or ordering a Castro Fathead, etc. I think I'd be more upset if I found out Castro ordered a fathead.
  6. What do you(or other Iowa fans, for that matter) think of him? He's incredibly solid and consistent. He filled in for Bulaga when he was a freshman, and I don't think anybody really noticed Bulaga was gone. I think he's better than Bulaga was, and pretty close to Gallery.
  7. It's a shame we don't see reports that Riley Reiff is returning for his senior year, but I can't fault a kid for wanting to get paid a lot of money.
  8. Theriot is a FA... What an awful thing to say.
  9. Uh ... I'd challenge the notion that the Nationals are unlikely to make the playoffs in 2012. Not saying they will, but that's a very strong team ... without Fielder/Harper/Rendon. Add in the system to make trades, and I think their chances of making the playoffs are as good as most of the perceived top teams in the majors. Exactly. It is pretty interesting seeing nonrecognition of the talent their 25 man squad exhibits. Even in the NL East, this is a team that can and will surprise barring any major setbacks on the injury front. Barring any setbacks, they could still easily finish 4th in their division.
  10. Who? Also keep in mind they lost their 2 most productive hitters from last year's team.
  11. They're holding steady at #39 in the Rivals top 50.
  12. Are you seriously saying that it could be easier to move from a 60 win team to contender than it would be an 80 win team to contender in one offseason? I don't want to put words in MR's mouth, but if the Cubs were to trade all of the remaining guys with expiring contracts (Dempster, Byrd, etc.) for top prospects that will spend 2012 in AAA and 2013 in MLB, then it's pretty easy to get to the conclusion that the team is worse off in 2012 but better off in 2013. those are going to be some really good trades. They don't have to be that good. The guys with expiring contracts will give the Cubs a combined zero WAR in 2013, after they're gone. I think his problem was in your thinking that trading "Dempster, Byrd, etc." will result in top prospects playing in MLB next year.
  13. i don't mind being on the other side of him if his plan means i don't bother watching cubs games after may until 2015 You'd be wise to read the posts yourself rather than accept jersey's interpretation. This sounds like a trap. Don't do it.
  14. Didn't read the defined terms, I see. He wasn't traded to the Rangers after reaching the majors? Wasn't he still a rookie his first year with the rangers? I don't know how TT counts players with less than a year of ML service time. The overall point is he wasn't acquired as a FA. ETA: he had more time in the majors in Cincy than I thought. My bad. Regardless, you owe me an apology.
  15. Didn't read the defined terms, I see. He wasn't traded to the Rangers after reaching the majors?
  16. Don't know much about him other than he's fairly young (37) and has been director of player personnel for ATL. Well, if he had anything to do with them realizing they needed an elite type wide receiver and going and getting Julio Jones, he's already in my good graces. Everything I've ever heard points to that being Dimitroff's idea, but that's not to say Snead had no input. Dimitroff went so far as to ask Belichick what he thought of the idea to trade up. Belichick told him not to, so he did.
  17. I call 2016 so I can start the first game thread of the season as defending world champs.
  18. It's taking too long because nobody wants the job. If I'm a candidate, I'm holding out for the dump trucks that were previously headed to Brad Stevens's house.
