you seem to be thinking of it as a straight up coin flip where talent doesn't matter at all, just luck. it's true that playoff series do not always end with the "best" team winning or team with the best record, but your odds of winning any game increase when you better the talent you have. you add talent to better your record from year to year, you add talent to improve your chances of winning in the playoffs. it's not rocket surgery. That's what I thought as late as last year and many on this board converted me. Again, many smart people on here have said you could add four great players and it doesn't increase the odds much. I suck at math so I just take their word for it. nothing is a guarantee to make you win it all, but it certainly helps any time you get a chance to add an elite talent to a team weakness
