  1. He is bad overall but I would argue that he is clutch. I know he's been a nightmare against the Sox for years and he hits higher than his career average with RISP. I could hit higher than Jacque Jones' career average with RISP. If you can hit higher than .279 you shuld be in the Bigs.

  3. Unless Dusty decides to go with Neifi in the 2-hole, I think you can pretty much bank on Jones batting second.... he is fast after all.... :( I was thinking 4th initially ( ) but second wouldn't surprise me. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
  4. Yet another Carrie Muskat head scratcher: I wouldn't call him patient at the plate. I just had a scary thought. What if the Cubs plan to bat him second behind Pierre. Didn't he leadoff for the Twins?
  5. Will you please leave. What did I do? What I said was true, as it stands the Cubs are better than last year. Sheesh. You gave him HOPE and that is a dangerous thing for any Cubs fan to have  According to BP the Cubs finished about 6-7 wins less than they should have: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/standings.php PLUS they upgraded that team. Oh and the Cards finished well above what they should have. Hmmm, that link doesn't work for me. Works for me. Yeah, it worked the third time I clicked it. Strange...

  8. yeah, we'll just improve at fourth base and longstop and oh wait those aren't real and in actuality we have no more positions where we have the chance to get better and we certainly aren't going to acquire a secondbaseman who is more productive than walker, so why trade him? I'm thinking more aong the lines of upgrading SS and moving Cedeno to 2B. Anyway, I didn't say I was in favor of trading him but if the MI can be improved (or we can use him to get another good SP) I'm all for it. unless that ss is tejada, i don't think new ss + cedeno is better than walker + cedeno. I think this team lives and dies with it's pitchers. The improved infield defense may save runs but if the pitchers bomb we're not going anywhere anyway. Walker's bat is nice but his range and overall defense just don't impress me. Having said that, I would like to keep him on the team but considering everything that's been quoted up til now, I think he's going to be traded.

  10. I guess this means Johnny will be clean shaven with short hair next year...
  11. I don't know why he would. We don't have any more "holes" on this team. (In reality, we do...but Hendry had addressed everything:leadoff, rigthfield, bullpen) I could understand (not necessarily agree) trading Walker to improve somewhere like rightfield, lead-off, centerfield, bullpen...when those weren't filled in other ways. But now, it only makes sense to trade Walker for a legitimate upgrade. Our offense is still the weak part of this team. If Hendry trades Walker, then not only is he stupid, but he'll prove his stubborness takes precedence over creating a good ball club. Walker is better than any secondbaseman we have. He's signed a RF...and traded for a lead-off CF...Walker isn't expensive, so there's no need to dump his salary. Trading Walker "just for the hell of it" makes no sense. I can't see it happening. If it does, it will be a dumber move than locking up Jockcrap Jones to a three year deal. I think the whole idea behind trading Walker, for Hendry, is to improve the infield defense. I have to see what they get in return before I say its a bad move. Walker is valuable to this team but his production can be replaced.
  12. Would love Perez for the bench/platoon as well(especially now), maybe it will serve to pacify Baker's "need" to put his fingerprints on everything and anything. Walker best be here batting 2nd opening day, unless used in a deal for a difference maker only. I have to believe he will be since the Cubs don't need to trade for an OFer anymore I'm not convinced. Patterson still has to be moved and I see Walker (and others) being included in a deal to get another MI or SP. At this point, we can't afford to move Walker. We need his bat more than ever. Trading Walker now would be stupid. My comment wasn't a value judgement just a hunch. I still think Hendry's plan is to move Walker. I seriously don't think Patterson will be on the bench either so, from my point of view, there is at least one more deal yet to be completed.

  14. Oh, you mean like how Dubois was supposed to play in left and how Ronny is supposed to play shortstop next year? Face it, if we sign someone like Wilson, they're playing everyday over Murton. No, I don't. Hendry and Baker are already on record saying Murton will be the fulltime LF.
  15. If we're going to platoon Jones (which would be the smart thing to do), we already have someone on our roster who can hit lefties (Murton). Why overpay for another mediocre outfielder who is supposed to platoon with Jones when, in reality, he'll just take away playing time away from Murton anyways. We should still try and trade for Huff, and then platoon Jones and Murton. Together, they might salvage right field. Murton is suppose to play fulltime in LF. If Jones is platooned the Cubs will acquire another hitter.
  16. I disagree - I think the three years is pretty **** bad. If it was, say, 3 years, $7 million, it would be better. Who in the hell would take Jacque Jones off our hands at 5+ million per year? Do you think we could get him for around $2 million a year? Are you serious? No, I'm not serious at all. I was just making an example. I'm just saying the money bothered me more than the length of contract. If it was a 1 year deal at 6 million, at least he'd be off the books come next offseason, but we're stuck paying him $5 million each of the next 2 years after that. I don't agree with signing him at all much less for 3 years but the price per year is in-line with what he was already making (5 million last year)..

  18. Link WTF? :?:  It might have something to do with a plan to platoon him. Rotoworld also think Jones is best in a platoon (how could you really disagree? lol) The Cubs might be looking for a RH to compliment him.
  19. Jones shouldn't hit higher than 6th (and I only say that because of his power). He strikes out way too much to be anywhere near the top of the order. My fear is he will hit 4th between DLee and Aramis.
  20. KC, and thanks to Dusty's wonderful skills, he only had to pay $1m more than the Royals offered. So have we officially overpaid everyone we've signed? Exactly what good is Dusty Baker at this point? Because anyone could fill out a lineup card and rattle off cliches. Haha. We had to outbid the freakin Royals. How sad is that? I hate this organization. According to WGN radio, the Cardinals were also offering 3 years. Yeah, he's being interviewed now. I'm tired of the obligatory "I want to play for Dusty Baker" response.
  21. Have you're fun but don't forget you guys will have "JRod" and So running around the OF. :D Do you think the cubs have any chance of finishing ahead of the cards? of course there's a chance :duck:

  23. Pie (and others) must be out the door. Let's get something good. We need it.
  24. Yeah, he had a lot of glowing comments...
