  1. I agree, that is until the last few paragraphs. Michael Barrett is in no way one of the 5 biggest culprits for this season. I just can't even begin to believe that. He OPS'd .860 in April, near .800 in May, and over 1.000 in June - he's been solid all year. He didn't disappear when Lee went down. Yes, he punched AJP in the face. At that point, the Cubs were already out of it. They had a 5 game losing streak when he was gone for 10 - true. But they lost 6 in a row earlier while he was playing. Not only that, but during the 13 games Barrett was out for his back & the suspension, Blanco played the best offensive baseball of his life. He OPS'd 1.055 in June (over 15 games, 13 of which were during Barrett's absence). What are the chances Barrett plays any better than that 1.055 during those 13 games? I'd say pretty frickin small. So whatever we lost by having Barrett miss 10 games for punching AJP, we gained by Blanco having a career 2 weeks. Finally, I think a different team would use that punch as a rallying point. Barrett was clearly frustrated and got pissed and showed he wasn't giving up on the year. I was hoping the team would rally behind him and run off a string of Ws. Didn't happen, but I'm still ok w/ the punch. Not a great idea, but certainly not one of the reasons behind our team sucking.
  2. I was just going on Tattoo You and the never ending play of "Start Me Up" to qualify them as an 80's band. I guess I just don't ever think of the Stones as an 80s band. Even w/ Start Me Up (and those horrible tights Mick wore) playing on MTV all the time, they just don't match any of the stereotypes for 80s bands.
  3. yep I have to admit - I finally voted b/c I just wanted to see how close it was. you can click on "view vote results" without actually voting Well this poll's results will be skewed by 1.

  5. Well, it certainly helps that his name is part of the band's name. True, but I wouldn't call Dave Matthews Band a solo artist & a backup band.
  6. I don't think of Hendrix as a solo-guy at all. The Jimi-Hendrix Experience were all 3 AWESOME, ahead of their time musicians. Mitch Mitchell is considered to be one of the greatest rock drummers of all time, and he was only like 18-23 the whole time he played with Jimi. I've played drums since I was a child, got my first trap set when I was 6...until i played it so hard I busted all the drum heads. Anyways, the first time I heard "Fire", my brain just about exploded and I sat down and learned the drum licks for the next few hours. I think that CD has a permanent skip on "Fire" because of my rewinding it over and over again to get the drum part right. I've been drumming since I was 10, so I know how great Mitch Mitchell is. But I think Hendrix (like Springsteen & to a lesser extent Petty) was just so much bigger than the band that he overshadows the rest of them.
  7. Zappa's band. Never heard a single song by them though. Even ignoringAFD, you could come up with a pretty solid list of songs from the rest of their stuff.
  8. then the Dead go into a 23 minute version of Space and Drums, forget how much time is left, and let the clock expire while spinning in place I love that the Dead fans are druggies who spin in place, when Pantera's guitarist was named Dimebag.
  9. Based on all of your prior posts in this whole set of threads, this really surprises me. You've never heard Ripple, Uncle John's Band, Sugar Magnolia or Shakedown Street? Based on your other musical tastes you've mentioned on this board, I'd suggest you pick up a copy of Skeletons From the Closet. Though, I really like some of their other stuff on Workingman's Dead, American Beauty, etc. I actually own Workingman's Dead in my collection of vinyl LP's, just never had the desire to listen to it. I'll do so soon though. I've just always tried to avoid "jam band" types. I'm more into studio stuff which is why my favs are Beatles, Radiohead, and Tool. Well, a lot of the stuff on Skeletons & American Beauty is neatly placed in a sub-4 minute package. It's not even like a lot of Phish's studio albums which mix the 3-4 minute songs with the 8+ minute songs. I'm not knocking either style, Phish is actually one of my favorite bands (and no, I'm not a druggie). I've never been a fan of all the Dead bootlegs, but I really like their studio stuff.
  10. It's a fine line. Hendrix or Jimi Hendrix Experience? Petty or Petty and the Heartbreakers? Springsteen or E Street Band? Dave Matthews or DMB? Dave may be the least talented member of the DMB. All the rest are solo acts (which is tough for me to say about the Experience, but still).
  11. Exactly, Willingham and Ramirez have been struggling for the last month or so. If Baker had them, Neifi and Nevin would have been playing regularly in their place - or at least taking a lot of starts from them.

  13. To this day, I love Appetite For Destruction.
  14. Fair point, but why no Cure? Too many goth bands? tough choices were made. MOI made it?
  15. I can't even muster a vote for either of these bands. I hate both of them.

  17. BULL U2, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Guns N Roses, The Replacements, Van Halen, Metallica, The Police, Michael Jackson, Prince, Pixies, The Cars, Slayer, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Madonna, The Clash, Megadeath, The Talking Heads, The Cure, Whitney Houston, Motley Crue, Ratt, Rolling Stones, Skid Row, Bryan Adams, Black Flag, Duran Duran, Pat Benetar, Queen, etc etc etc Headline for music in the 80's? Styx? Maybe if you live in a small town in the midwest, had a mullet, and no musical taste to speak of. That's harsh, but I agree w/ your point. Though I certainly wouldn't call the Stones an 80s band.
  18. Thrash metal bands have quite the following on this board.
  19. A - how do you know you wouldn't like Radiohead, maybe even more than CCR, if you've never even heard their music? B - how have you lived 29 years without ever hearing a Radiohead song?
  20. As much as critics may love radiohead i cannot stand listening to it. It is just painful to listen to. That's funny. I've been listening to Radiohead pain free since 1993.
  21. I don't get this at all. CCR is some great country-rock, but they only have a couple great songs. Radiohead turned music on its head with OK Computer, then came back and did it again w/ Kid A/Amnesiac just a few years later. I agree CCR shouldn't be a 14, but Radiohead should have been a 2. I'm wondering if anyone voted for CCR just b/c they're pissed about the low ranking. And to those who say Radiohead fans are drug users, are you kidding me? My father-in-law still tells stories of listening to CCR while in the Army in Vietnam & smoking pot. I don't see how any of these 60s-70s bands could be less "drug rock" than a group like Radiohead. I mean, we're not talking Phish here.
  22. The best of Slayer wouldn't really match up with music created by Jimi's 30-some-year-old corpse. I voted for Hendrix.
  23. Santana grabbed an early lead because you started the thread in the morning, whilst witches and demons slumbered. The forces of metal are marshaling their numbers and will reach full strength in the black shadows of night. I'm a little scared to have voted for Santana. At the midnight hour the metal legions will take grim vengeance on their enemies. Demons shall rend their flesh, vampires shall taste their blood, and witches shall curse their childrens' children. I pity the Santana voters. I'm going to just stop posting in this thread.

  25. Based on the main thread on this topic, I'm guessing BBB shows up here to defend his boys any minute. I don't expect him to vote for them, but he thinks they're at their popularity peak right now.
