  1. If that's the case then the Cubs real mistake was running Sammy off like they did. If he hadn't been so pissed when he left, maybe he'd have left his special pills too. I don't really get what the point of this thread is...you're saying the Cardinals are lucky I take it? Lucky year-in and year-out? You know what they say about consistent luck...
  2. just b/c Molina's not great offensively doesn't mean we're not missing him offensively. As bad as he was, he .660-.700ish ops is 150-200 points higher than than the numbers Diaz or Mahoney will put up. That much OPS is a significant loss, whether its losing a .900 OPS for a .700 one or losing a .700 one for a .500. Plus Molina was getting better and had hit over .300 the last two months and is light years better than either of his replacements defensively.
  3. ^^ agreed. The Cards are in the top 5 in road attendance every year, just like the Cubs.
  4. IMB, my cards are getting plenty of attention: we also have an enormous fan base, you see, plus we've actually done some things to deserve the media focus. I was just defending White Sox fans b/c they're getting screwed over by the national and local media.
  5. You say the Cubs get lots of press because they have a big fan base, I say they have a big fan base because they get lots of press. Being on tv all over the country has done wonders for a fan base that until the last twenty years of the twentieth century wasn't that exceptional. The creation of the "lovable loser" Cubbie fans stereotype came with WGN and all the cameras panning over the bleacher bums. To say that Cubs fans are more devoted than fans in other cities with equally long baseball history is just self-promotion. When it comes down to it as a whole, any group of fans is nothing more than a random sampling of people, and so the only thing that makes them different is team history and location. Storied franchises and/or franchises based in big cities will naturally have more fanatical fans or just more fans in general. I would say that journalists should give the most attention to the best story. This year, the White Sox are certainly more interesting and more exceptional than the Cubs, and should be getting the press they deserve for it. But because money talks louder than journalistic integrity, we'll hear about the Cubs at the beginning of sportscenter (well, right after the yankees and red sox) all year long.
  6. well i won't speak for Sox fans, but one of the things that irritates a lot of fans about the Cubs is the ridiculous amount of press and attention they get for basicly nothing more than losing spectacularly. I mean, other than the fact that you have a big fan base and an old ballpark, what's so great about the Cubs as a franchise?
  7. don't flatter yourselves. The Sox are so far ahead in their division that the games have little meaning or importance anymore. So they need something to talk about, and you're it.
  8. I'm glad Lee made the team as a starter. He's a better fielder than Pujols so it only makes sense that he'd play first and Pujols DH. Hopefully he'll make a diving play and save the game, giving the Cardinals home field advantage in the Series. Wouldn't that be ironic?
