  1. Well, nothing major was really done.. Say what you want about where the guy writes for, but the real reason people are hurt by it is because its true. A lineup of Pierre, Walker, Lee, ARam, Jones, Murton, Barrett and Perez/Cedeno exactly wasn't what I had in mind when the offseason began. That is the lineup of a 4th place team, not a contender. Who's going to hit for Jones against lefties? Why did we end up with Jones in the first place? Whos going to be there in case Murton isn't a MLB calibur starter? Even if Ronnie beats out Perez, is that even really an upgrade? And if Walker gets traded or injured, then are they just left with a Perez, Cedeno combo? The pitching staff really isn't that much better. There's Zambrano, Prior and...well, not much else worth mentioning at this point, at least, not as a positive point. Wood is obviously someone I am not counting on. Maddux, though I love the guy, is on his last legs, Williams is hardly going to scare anyone. The pen has Dempster as our closer..it will be interesting to see if he can duplicate his success. Then we have Howry and Eyre, who could be great, or could be busts. The rest are pretty much the same ragtag group from last tear. Was the DRay comment harsh? Yea, it was. But it's just not as far off as people here are taking it.
  2. Well, obviously, Pierre wouldn't get dumped anyways, so thats a non issue, wishful thinking or not. I would do this trade as it would be a boost to the Cubs lackluster offense. Suddenly, we have someone to hit lefties for Jones, making that signing look better as he is an above average hitter against righties. And, we have Murton insurance now as well, as I don't think he has proven himself beyond a doubt that he can be an everyday player in the majors. A hitter like Michaels could be a make or break type addition for this team. I cannot say the same for Ohman.
  3. I could live with that lineup, though I'd prefer a more predictably productive OFer than Guillen. Still, its a realistic scenario. Actually, that would be a best case scenario lineup. Cubs will be lucky to add 3 big additions in an offseason lacking of available talent.
  4. So you're basing this entire argument off of one trade that didn't happen that was only rumored in theory?
  5. Again Espn radio mentioned Wood and Mitre strait up for Soriano. Walker was not involved according to them, but still defensively it would make for a very shakey outfiled with hariston already playing in center although I will that hariston has been better than I expected in center! And its ESPN Radio itself reporting this, and not some local show on your ESPN Radio Network?
  6. The yankees have a terrible GM. They trade for Kevin Brown and others and sign pitchers like Wright for 8mil? Pathetic. I hate to defend Cashman, but what has the moves lately cost the Yankees? Absolutely nothing. Getting potentially something for nothing is always a good move IMO. Now, if they use these moves as an excuse to not still address the obvious holes on the team, then it becomes a problem.
  7. I think Vlad is obviously a better long term choice when looking at it from a blanket perspective, but for a situation like the Yankees, I think Sheff was a better choice as he has proven to be more durable and also has shown to adapt very well to the NY media. I think Vlad may have had a tougher time dealing with that since he tends to want to shy away from the media.
